My first visit to Bergamot yesterday was AMAZING! I loved…read morethe interior of the space. Nothing over the top, just a warm and inviting atmosphere. I thought it was a little strange having to take off my shoes upon entry (spa sandals were provided). Had I had nicer shoes on, I wouldn't have wanted to just leave them by the front door for anyone to take if they felt so inclined. I learned later (after my massage) that there are lockers in the bathroom. I assume I could have locked my shoes up if I had wanted, but that wasn't offered to me. I was promptly greeted by my massage therapist (Ty) after I filled out some new client paperwork. She showed me to the treatment room, and it was truly the nicest one I had ever been in. I LOVED the up lighting in the room. It added a calming glow to an otherwise dark room. Not only did my therapist read my chart, but she sat down and discussed my wants/needs for my 75 minute session. You don't get that kind of personal interaction at larger day spas. Some of those spas are more like a "one size fits all" quantity over quality places. That is not the case here. My massage was WONDERFUL. It was the right amount of therapeutic and relaxing, and the use of warm towels was the cherry on top. Ty addressed my areas of concern and took the time after my massage to tell me her findings. I have definitely found my new place to go to for massage. I see no reason to go anywhere else now unless I'm out of town. I wish I would have stopped in sooner! Thank you for a wonderful experience.

I usually book the same massage…read moretherapist but this time I wanted to see what someone else might bring to the table (no pun intended). The massage therapist was kind and welcoming but I noticed that she had on an earbuds-type headset that she wore around the back of her neck. OK, maybe she listens to something that gets her into her groove but several times during the massage she seemed to drift her focus away from me: only one hand on my body that seemed to just stop in mid stroke or repeated massaging the same area over and over and over again, each time getting deeper than the medium touch we had discussed. I even could hear another sound in the room other than the soothing music that was playing. Was that coming from her earpieces? She also spent so much time on my back side that by the time she asked me to flip over the massage was almost done. She just seemed distracted. I will go back but to my usual therapist who has always kept me 100% the focus of her attention.

However, I really needed to relax and figured one go couldn't hurt - if anything, it would be an experience. That first day, I talked with Lisa for over an hour (the appointment was for 90 minutes but I ended up taking 2 hours) - she's kind, funny, and I felt very comfortable talking to her. After my first acupuncture session, she gave me some tips for relaxation rituals other practices at home that could help me achieve my dual goals of ruminating less and starting a family. I went to see her twice before getting a positive! I have been continuing once a week during my first trimester and it is so relaxing. Since I don't have a point of reference for the ups and downs of a first time mom to be (except for the internet - which can be more detrimental than helpful if you want to be able to sleep at night), Lisa has been an amazing resource on this journey. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a compassionate, holistic take on feeling better in any area of life.

I had been experiencing chronic pain for over a year in my quads and piriformis that no amount of self work through yoga or assisted work through message could relieve. He shared this was a reasonable expectation and we began the series. Not only did my chronic pain go away (YEAH!) through the series my mind-body blossomed to a new level I didn't know was possible (even after 10+years of yoga!). I have since started a home TRE practice (first guided by Alex) and go back every 6-9 months for a "tune up body work session". I am grateful for Alex's knowledge, professionalism, compassion, guidance and ability to help me feel optimally healthy.

This clinic for the Madison College massage program is your answer. Appointments are hard to come by and you are limited to four per semester if you're lucky enough to snag them, but you get a full hour in a relaxing environment. I haven't had a ton of massages, but both of the students I've seen over the last year have blown the professionals I've visited out of the water for half the price. When I first signed up for a massage here I pictured a more clinical/classroom-like setting. In reality, they've really tried to make it as much like a typical massage place as possible. There's lots of soothing music, muted shades of tan and taupe, wall sconces, baskets of decorative knick-knacks, etc. Where things get different is that you may have an instructor pop in on your session to observe or offer guidance; I've had this happen once in six visits (but that was when I was super jacked up and was probably one of the more challenging cases of the day). You also fill out an evaluation form after, but that takes only a minute or two. I've come in seeking more therapy than relaxation and the therapists I've had have been game for for concentrating on my problem areas instead of sticking to a full body massage or just integrating what they're working on that week. My most recent trips have had some nice practice perks like aromatherapy and hot towels at no additional cost. Due to the lower cost I was able to visit several times with only a couple weeks in between and build on the work done for some huge knots to the point they've almost disappeared. I'm sharing this info because they do a great job, but I also will fight you for an appointment so get your dialing finger ready.
