I was excited to buy a long massage with the best-reviewed masseuse at the best-reviewed spa in Madison as a birthday gift for my spouse. I scheduled it for their birthday, then SolEscape cancelled the appointment and rescheduled them for the following Friday at a time that they cannot attend. They did this without notifying us. The morning of the originally scheduled appointment, I called at least a dozen times and left multiple voicemails to try and figure out what happened or to get an apology; no one answered or returned my calls. I can't believe the careless nature of their poor customer service. I will never try to come here again. I stayed at a resort but was introduced to ashiatsu massage in Portland so I seek it out when traveling. I booked a massage with Al and I must say it was one of the best experiences that I have ever had in my life. I hesitate to call it simply a massage because it was a spiritual journey. He made special care to make sure I was comfortable, covered and relaxed. I prefer a deeper tissue massage and this was just perfect. I will be a return customer. I had a 30 min massage appointment on Oct 11 with Kirsten Martin for muscle soreness and tension in my neck and shoulders, which I let her know about. During the massage, Kirsten used a lot of force to the point where it was very painful at times. I didn't speak up at the time because I thought this was normal, but speaking to colleagues and friends afterward about my experience, they told me that massage shouldn't be painful. I left last night feeling some relief from the muscle soreness and tension, but woke up this morning feeling worse. My neck, where she focused a lot of pressure, is tender to the touch and I am feeling soreness moving my neck around. I felt worse after the massage than I did going in. I emailed SolEscape with this information/feedback on Oct. 12 and they never responded. read more

Laura is amazing! She does a brilliant hot stone massage--I have had several with her. She listens to what you say, also what your body tells her, and tries to tailor her treatment to your specific needs. I have arthritis and my joints are often stiff and inflamed. She knows how to loosen them, use the heat if the stones and massage therapy, to improve mobility and decrease inflammation. Laura added cupping to my last treatment and it was also amazing. One word: HEAVENLY. I booked a massage with Al after reading reviews, and I'm echoing another Yelper -- best massage I've ever had. SolEscape has a very welcoming and relaxing vibe. Al was finishing up with someone at the front desk when I arrived (I was excited and early), and he offered me a cup of water and said he'd be right out. The woman at the front desk was also very nice. We started off by Al sitting down with me and asking me any concerns. He really listened and asked me questions about my preferences, more so than most massage therapists. He told me that he does Ashiatsu, which I've never had before. He was kind, warm, and funny. Such a nice guy! I was a little nervous (feet!) but it was soooo relaxing. He did a combo of hands on and Ashiatsu, with a few good stretches. He used some really nice oils (one for headaches after reading that on my intake form!) too. This is minor, but I thought the massage table was way more comfortable than they usually are. So cozy. An hour massage cost $75 (plus tip). Expensive, but seriously worth it. Bonus: because it was my first time there, they tacked on an extra 15 minutes (promotional special). Al is AMAZING. Iv never had a ashiwatsu technique done but if you like deep tissue, I highly recommend this. I'll tell you I was completely in shock with how great I felt during and after!! I can't believe I have gone this long without 1: meeting AL, and 2: getting this type of massage. He explains what he does. I live in Chicago and he even game me a contact for someone out there. He is so sweet and loves what he does. My right side neck/shoulder was in pain for 5 weeks on and off and he has healed it. He is a miracle worker. So, I travel all the time. No really, all the time. So when I have one free weekend in Madison a month, the need to treat myself from all of the travel, and an aching, painful back that's been bothering me for years... I made an appointment online (they have weekend appointments!!!), and since I haven't been there before, I asked for whoever was available. That meant Michelle was my masseuse, and she is just fabulous! I regularly fall asleep on the table, while still getting the slightly-painful-but-needed extra attention on my sore shoulders. The full body 75 min deep tissue massage... Woowww. Words can't describe. The atmosphere is very kind, respectful, relaxing, and the massage oils are very pleasant--just the right amount of scent without being overpowering. They have heated massage tables, which I didn't expect to like as much as I do. Even the music is just right! My only comment would be that you can hear people talking when they are getting rung up in the main area, which can sometimes be distracting from the experience. They do have a shared bathroom with other businesses but that's alright. The massage therapist I saw was amazing. She did a wonderful job. I didn't feel awkward at all. A friend of mine recommended SolEscape and Julia Rowe for a prenatal massage. I wish I could go every week. She does amazing work and has such a relaxing personality and touch. I highly recommend prenatal massage as a way to relax during pregnancy, especially towards the end! It is honestly the only time my body and mind are in full chill mode (and this place has everything to do with it). I had one prenatal massage at another studio and it was nothing compared to the two I have received from Julia. I can't recommend her enough and look forward to my postnatal massage! I also received a regular (non-prenatal) massage from someone else at SE, but I cannot remember her name, unfortunately. She was great though. Had a great experience with Michelle. I suffer from muscle pain in my back due to a Snowboard accident. So I go to massage therapists at least once a month. Since I travel I get a lot of different therapist. Michelle ranks on the top. She took care of my triggerpoints, showed no mercy and worked herself step by step through my back for an hour. I had my first ashiatsu massage with Al yesterday afternoon! I'm an avid runner and yogi and came in expecting them to recommend a deep tissue massage. However, I'm so glad I kept an open mind and decided to go with Al's recommendation (it's his specialty). He does use his feet at times for this massage but he's very mindful about the amount of pressure he applies and if it's too much. It can be intense at times but I left feeling very relaxed. He mostly did this to apply pressure on my glutes and legs (which was where I was the most tight). I will definitely be returning !! read more

I saw a service menu posted at Heartland CU, and thought I'd get myself a facial and my first peel (I'll try anything once). I have been going to day spas since I was in my teens, and I know a good service when I find it. I can say with confidence that this place is good. It was really one of the best facials I've had in Madison. Unhurried, relaxing, and very thorough. I have found many facials lacking in the extraction department. The aesthetician either doesn't get all of them out, or they rush, damaging your skin. Not so in this case. I had tons of nasty-ass blackheads/whiteheads (mostly on my nose but other places, too), and congestion from ingrown hairs. I also had a (new word of the day) milium near my right eye- ew. It looks like a huge whitehead, but it's actually a cholesterol deposit, and should be extracted by a professional. Hey, Mickie got rid of that, too- in her words: 'easily'! :D She was friendly, easy to talk to, and informative about the service. Other good things? A nice firm hand and head/neck massage (such a relief for my tendonitis and neck problems... sigh... :3), attentive yet unobtrusive ensuring that I was comfortable. Perhaps this is insignificant to others, but... while I was having the peel, she fanned me by hand, to keep my skin cool. Like, with a paper fan. This way, she could watch closely for any adverse reactions to the peel. I liked that. It really stood out to me as hands-on and human. :) Now that it's been 3 days or so, all this dead skin has come off- leaving my skin brighter, smoother, and happier. Sol Escape also offers package deals on multiple services (sometimes this means you get an extra service for free!), so give a call or check the website. They also sell some high quality natural botanical products, which I may try in the future. Big ups to this new local business. With service such as I received, they will surely thrive.
