Lots of goodies, drinks & coffees are offered, both fountain and cooler bottled. So if you're in need of a caffeine boost on a drive you do on autopilot it's a great place to stop. The chain is very prevalent on the Eastern Shore (Delmarva Peninsula). It's known for its's excellent fried chicken, which I've never tried. Even if I still ate fried foods, it certainly wouldn't be something you want to eat while driving. :) Thanks for always being there when I need you Royal Farms.

The lady behind the counter was upset that she even asked so she took it back and gave her a new piece. But my mom had touched the chicken and this lady put it back with the other fresh chicken. Omg!! I was trying to tell her because I thought that was nasty, but she wasn't listening... Ugh. The mashed potatoes were the texture of rice somehow, they were overcooked. I told my mom to pick her battles and not complain. I don't mess with people making my food and this lady was clearly upset. My mom asked if the chicken was fresh and I think that's what started the whole uncomfortable exchange. The chicken sliders were good and the store was clean. I did notice a lot of stores in the area had fly problems. It was a swarm of flies hanging out in the bathroom like they were regulars, in the bathroom trash was running over, and it wasn't clean in there. They have several gas pumps, restrooms, food and drinks. The line moved quickly. But customer service just didn't seem to be a big deal to anyone. This wasn't the best Royal Farms I've stopped at, but they had what we needed. You'll pass 100 of them, so take your pick. Lol. All in all they could do better!!

On this visit, I was returning home from the wedding of a younger colleague in Central New Jersey. The store is located on US 13, about an hour north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. This part of US 13 is a peaceful and historic drive in either direction through Virginia's Eastern Shore. My first order of business was to park and head for the restrooms. Parking is available on either side of the nostalgic Stuckey's building, with the gas pumps directly in front. The restrooms were clean and very well maintained. Inside, there are aisles and aisles of souvenirs and great snacks--including the famous Stuckey's pecan log rolls--as well as the Southern Grille. I purchased several pecan log rolls and a bunch of souvenirs. The woman at the cash register was very helpful and carefully packed everything for my trip home. Stopping here is like stepping back into the golden age of the American road trip. One of these times, I am finally going to order something from the Southern Grille!

Since this umbrella was not for beach use, couple hours later, I returned to the store to and return/exchange umbrella because we thought we could find another umbrella, the store manager said "no returns on beach umbrellas" - without any explanation whatsoever. That was an odd response. First, the store did not issue a receipt; second, all items should be subject to returns unless you buy an item like coke bottle and opened it. When I tried to explain the situation about the umbrella, he wanted to show flexibility and buy another umbrella the same size - they didn't have one - then he changed his mind and offered to buy something else - no refunds/no returns- but why? Why do I have to buy something that I don't need. However, since we were on the beach area, I said ok, I will look for a beach chair. All of a sudden, he saw that the umbrella had traces of sand, then, he changed his mind again and said "no returns - you must keep it." If the umbrella was placed in the trunk with chairs from the beach then there was sand. So, I decided to leave the store at once. Definitely an unacceptable way to run business and misleading customers by selling items like umbrellas for a beach use that are in fact for patio use - do whatever to make a profit . Will someone from the local community keep a close check to stores like this one?
