So, we had just arrived at Chincoteague and were headed towards our hotel and he saw the sign "Best Pie on the shore." He said it aloud and I immediately said "SKO'DEN!" He had to turn around to go back and they had a large strawberry cobbler pie, ready and fresh out of the oven. I grabbed it immediately. It was the best decision!!! Holy wow...the balance of sugar, filling and crust was delicious. The crust is thin so it won't make your mouth dry. The filling is sweet and savory with huge chunks of fresh fruit. Hands down this was the best pie I have ever had...or so I thought! Since Memorial Day this establishment has made over 900 pies and counting! Today, on our way home, we stopped in again to see what they had. Sadly they only had one full size blueberry pie; BUT, they had one peach, one blueberry, and one strawberry mini available!! So I grabbed one of each. We gobbled up the peach in two bites and I wanted more. I went back inside to get a peach, only to be disappointed that the owner only makes those once a week. ONCE A WEEK! Augh. I was distraught. I guess we will have to come back next week. Yes...I will drive 3 hrs for a peach cobbler pie from here. Thats how amazing they are! Not only pies, they have some small produce, and many beautiful but pricey hand carved and hand made items. I'll see you soon CP!

Pies are still delicious!!! Peach, chocolate pecan, and of course tomato pies were all inhaled this…read moreweek.

It's a very simple storefront - some fresh produce outside, right by the parking area, and then just an open façade for walking in to purchase the seafood. It's a bit tight inside, but the folks are friendly and welcoming and there was never really much of a line to order seafood. If you want crabs, order ahead of time so you can tell them exactly when you're going to want them ready. When I arrived to pick up my dozen male crabs, they were steaming hot. They were reasonably priced. Some of the seafood is super local, others they get from the mainland. I opted for some Chincoteague oysters which were so deliciously briny and fresh. The crabs were also locally and recently caught. Sometimes you gotta be ready to buy what's been caught, you know? That being said, I also enjoyed our rockfish that they had purchase for selling. Maybe next time I'll get some of the clams too. While the main draw is the local fresh seafood, they do sell a few other items like local hot sauces, seasonings, and even equipment like crab mallets and oyster knives (which was good, because my rental property didn't have one and I didn't want to shell out $20 extra to have my oysters pre-shucked). Next time I'm staying on Chincoteague, I will be ordering from Ricky's. Highly recommended!

This year, we have planned two trips to the island and my wife and I are already planning how many Cosas pizzas and island creamery visits we can fit in. In terms of quality, the experience was about as good as I could have hoped for. I called in advance but it still took a minute to get my pizza ready, which is okay as fresh food outside on an island is worth waiting for, but bears keeping in mind. There are some picnic tables set up nearby but I did have to depart due to wind and find a more sheltered locale to eat. The pizza had relatively whole crushed tomatoes, which is usually not my preference, but in this case the flavor really hit. The tang, the char, the smoothness of the contrasting ingredients is what you'd get at a high-end place. A salad with ranch dressing and the tiramisu I got for dessert were not on the online menu, but having arrived and seen these options I was glad I elected to take them. It's not the same experience as a sit-down restaurant, but it was a winner for me.

Want melty cheese? Having a Meltdown is the place to go!…read more Most of their menu is grilled cheese, but they also have quesadillas and mac n' cheese. I've been a couple times and if you hit them up off peak hours, food can be ready in 10 minutes. Otherwise, be ready to wait with all the other folks here to get their cheese on. Every sandwich I've ever gotten here was OOZING with cheese. They don't skimp, which I love (my wife finds it overkill, but to each their own). The Four Cheese Melt is a cheese-lover's best grilled cheese. The Philly Cheese is solid. On our last visit, we went with spicy grilled cheeses: -Kick in the Can - this take on a jalapeño popper was delicious. They did not skimp on the pickled jalapeños either! Nice and spicy and also included bacon, cream cheese, and cheddar. -Slap in the Mouth - this Buffalo chicken sandwich was nice with plenty of buffalo sauce, chicken, blue cheese, and mozzarella. My only complaint is that they chicken was in huge chunks rather than diced up, so some bites were a little more chicken-forward than well-balanced. But if that's my only complaint, this is a solid sandwich indeed. The mac n' cheese was solid, with a nice bit of garlic to it. Child #1 got the Oodles of Noodles grilled cheese, which had this grilled cheese in it. A delightfully cheesy bundle of carbs! Waffle fries were solid accompaniment, would get again. Overall great place for celebrating melty cheese; you won't be disappointed!
