There was supposed to be a café in front of the restaurant, but according to Google, it was closed, so we decided to give this place a try. We arrived on a late Saturday afternoon and waited about 30 minutes to be seated, which made sense since there aren't many dining options nearby. The wait was absolutely worth it. We started with the soup of the day--vegetable red pepper--which was incredibly flavorful, and the accompanying slice of bread was equally delicious. We also ordered the falafel-on-a-waffle dish for its uniqueness, and it did not disappoint--so tasty! The host and servers were warm, kind, and welcoming. If you ever find yourself in the area, I'd highly recommend stopping here. read more

It seems like a lot of people come here for lunch or dinner after visiting Emerald Lake. So did we. We waited about 30 minutes for 2 people for lunch. There were lounge chairs in front to wait in. We got the Purple Burger (shredded beets-nuts-millet burger with goat cheese) and Falafel on a Waffle (just as it sounds). Both were unique and delicious. We didn't even plan for dessert, but ended up getting the lemon-lavender cheesecake, which was unique and delicious as well. Service was warm and friendly -- a true small town hospitality. Truffle Pigs is a casual spot for lunch and dinner with both indoor and outdoor seating. We read a lot of great things about this place and were excited to visit, but we were disappointed with our meal. We went at open on weekday which was good since they do not take reservations and got pretty busy while we were dining there. We were seated right away and chose to dine outside on the patio and enjoy the view. We ordered the Porcini Arancini, Nibble, Nibble Nibble, and a Pineapple Hops Kombucha. Our food came out pretty quickly. The arancini were crispy and the pesto was good, but they were so small and the dish only came with three pieces. The Nibble, Nibble Nibble is a charcuterie board that came with a variety of items such as smoked duck, pate, sausages, cornichon, fruit dijon, toast, and a couple of cheeses. The smoked duck was probably the best thing on the board. The smoky flavor came through and the meat was tender. The fruit dijon was a great balance of tangy and sweet. The pate was very dry and lacked flavor. We wished there was more toast (there were only three). The sausages, cornichon, and cheeses were okay. The Pineapple Hops kombucha was really good. Would definitely look for it in stores. Overall, giving Truffle Pigs a 3/5. We had high hopes for this place since it has good reviews, but our meal was pricey for what we ordered and the portions are small ($18 for three small arancini). Some of the items on the Nibble, Nibble Nibble lacked flavor. We also saw a bee or wasp crawling on the board and when we brought it up to our server, she quickly dismissed it. Average food at a relatively high price. Ordered the porcini arancini, nibble nibble nibble (which is a charcuterie board), and pineapple hops kombucha. The arancini were TINY and came with only three. For $18 the arancini was a rip off. The charcuterie board was solid. The cheeses, cornichons, and the smoked duck were really good. The rest of the board was mediocre. The pineapple kombucha was exceptional! One of the better kombuchas I've had. We sat outside to enjoy the views. The outside seating is shaded which is nice. During our meal, we found a bug in our food. When we brought it to the attention of our waitress, her response was, "Well, you are sitting outside." That was not the kind of reaction I expected or hoped for. While I understand that outdoor dining comes with some exposure to the elements, I still expect a certain level of cleanliness and, more importantly, a more considerate and apologetic response when something like this happens. Instead of showing concern or offering to make it right, the comment felt dismissive and unprofessional. It left a bad impression and made it hard to enjoy the rest of our time there. There's a village outside of the long highway entrance to Emerald Lake called "Field". On the far West side of this tiny village is this very popular restaurant that's soo worth the visit for lunch. Reservation is highly recommended (October - May) as it's super popular spot to get lunch or dinner after Emerald Lake. During June - September, you're at the mercy of their first-come first-served policy. For appetizers we got the Pork Belly Nachos ($22) and Steamed Mussels ($24). The Pork Belly Nachos was a happy accident, we didn't mean to order this as it was a family lunch and the parents weren't fond of bar food. It worked out as the pork belly with the other typical loaded nachos ingredients made it an exception to the rule. The Steamed Mussels is a half pound of PEI mussels. The creamy sauce it is served in is delicious and of course you gotta dip the garlic bread in the sauce for the added flavor. For entree, the group split various items. The Curry Chicken Rice Bowl ($28) was alright, which was chicken curry on coconut rice. The Pappardelle ($34) pasta I enjoyed the sauce, which is a roquefort and mushroom cream sauce, with pieces of shredded tender beef. Comes wth grilled garlic bread which goes great with the sauce. The Peachy Flatbread ($29) is a great sharable for the table with the highlight being the peaches and the hot honey drizzle. I also got a cup of the Pink Latte ($5.50) because I found it to be unique. Has a hint of raspberry flavor to it. Give it a try if you're intrigued. read more

The vibe is charming and quaint, and they have great food options (not too many, but it was honestly nice not to be overwhelmed by too many choices). They have great vegetarian/vegan options if needed! I was surprised by the versatility of the menu considering this place is in a town of just 200. The falafel moist and delicious, would highly recommend. "Samosa" appetizer was also good, I would say it's more of a spring roll with curry powder on top, but it came with some really well made tsatziki style cucumber sauce. My partners burger was fine, but soup of the day (cream of beef and potato I think) was pretty bland, needed more flavor. Service good for being in the middle of nowhere, seating a bit tight. When I heard the name of this business and that it was in BC, I knew that we had to go. I have been buying Truffle Pigs chocolate, which is a BC company, since my daughter was born. The restaurant owners love the coincidence in names and stock the chocolate. There is a cute store with all kinds of goodies and sun dried a traveler might need. The restaurant itself is decorated with flying pigs, the sort of thing that my kid made in art class when she was maybe eight years old. Cute! The menu had some healthy options. My friends and I were on our way back from Emerald Lake to Banff and decided to find some food along the way since it was getting later and darker. We found Truffle Pigs Bistro 3 minutes off the road. Inside had a very warm and cozy atmosphere, felt very intimate with lower lighting. We weren't sure what to expect going in--the restaurant had a good amount of selections on their menu, but my wife decided to share a couple of appetizers. We had the "Shrimp Street Tacos" and the "Chicken'n Dumpling" appetizers. Both were very good--did not expect the shrimp tacos to be served cold! Never had it that way, unless it was a ceviche or cocktail, so it was a surprise, but it was still good. One of the best meals and services I have had in my life, my goodness! We randomly were recommended Truffle Pigs by our waiter at The Lodge at Emerald Lake, and we were curious what little Field Town across the highway had to offer, and this place did not disappoint at all. For three post-hiking, we had a glass of each type of red wine available that day, the meritage was the unanimous favorite, salad, steak frites, and lamb shank, with matcha tiramisu for dessert. Maryse was our lovely waitress from eastern Canada, working the summer at Banff, and she was incredible. She was warm, welcoming, and attentive, quickly checking in if we could get a glass of each of the different red wines when she saw we were hesitating that we didn't want to get a whole bottle and we were indecisive. The salad was a beautiful mix of greens and pearl couscous. The steak frittes and truffle oil fries - I don't need to say any more. Truffle anything. And lastly, the BEST lamb shank I have ever had. Fell off the bone, moist, and melts in the mouth. The waitress, reviews, and menu are all correct in that the Moroccan chef really knows how to cook this sort of meat. The tiramisu was also delicious, not too sweet, more like a trifle in a cup, perfect to share among 2-3 people. Pleasant atmosphere and kind, prompt service inside at our cozy table by a window. Lighthearted cocktail menu and pretty serious food menu. I enjoyed the schnitzel and the hubby devoured a steak sandwich. There are many vegetarian and vegan options including a vegan chocolate cake. A local recommended the steel head trout as well. All delicious and not a morsel left on the plates! I have stayed here at the lodge portion and that was great they have a fire pit and a large portion of firewood for you to use at your leisure . I was surprised there was not more rules on when to put the fire out or how as in a tutorial to make sure you don't burn the lodge down if your fire gets out of control. The decor was rustic and they had a fun gift shop downstairs that also sold ice cream. The food was AMAZING. I ordered the breaded pork and shared it with my friend who ordered the duck pesto pasta. They were both great, but I will be dreaming of this pork dish for a long time. It was very tender and juicy and well marinated. And the breading was crisp and not heavy. The duck pesto pasta was also very tasty. It had a lot of meat in it. The staff were very friendly and very good at running this very busy restaurant. Prices are a bit on the high side, but it is worth it for the quality of the food. THE BEST RESTAURANT in the Canadian Rockies. MUST GO when in the area. The food here is unrivaled by the more frills touristy options in Banff and Lake Louise. It's a little detour from Banff, but if you're hiking in Yoho National Park, THIS is the place to eat. We came here two days in a row and would've come a third day if we were not rushing to the airport in Calgary. Here's what we ordered: - Duck Confit: TO DIE FOR. The duck was PERFECTLY cooked with a crispy skin and tender meat. The sauce was UMPTIOUS. - Braised Short Ribs: Server recommended it on our second visit and said, "this is the one you need to get." And boy was this OUT OF THE WORLD DECADENT. FALL APART tender and the mashed potatoes and pattypan squash just soaked up all that goodness. PORTION WAS HUGE too! - Burger: After a strenuous hike up Iceline Ridge on a cold day with some light hail, we went straight to the restaurant starving and the burger and crispy fries hit the spot. The blueberry bbq spot was a really nice touch with a little sweetness and a hint of smoke. Drool. - Salmon: Crispy skin salmon on top of a rich, creamy risotto. Loved that they also provided a roasted lemon versus a raw one. - Blueberry Pie: After a long hike, how can you resist gorging on PIE AND ICE CREAM???? Desserts are made daily. I can attest because the day before was a multiple berry pie. And this pie comes out warm and gooey. PERFECTION. SERVICE WAS PHENOMENAL. I wished I stayed here than at the Emerald Lake Lodge.
