Cilantro OTL may seem like a foodie's nightmare (yet a tourist's dream) upon initial assessment,…read morebut there is a lot to like about this dining destination other than the amazing views and surroundings. Typically, these sorts of restaurants skate by on mediocre (at best) food and drink at the expense of travelers given their superb surroundings and views. I applaud Cilantro because that was just not seemingly on their minds, as they wanted to provide as close to a food experience as nature provided at Emerald Lake. Let's start with the obvious... the prices are more than the typical offerings in the area. That is just the nature of the restaurant and resort "biz" - but does not grant them a pass at mediocre food. The menu was given careful thought to what they can do well in the region (and geographically) as well as what patrons might want to eat year-round here. The result is a varied (albeit limited) menu that has something for everyone. Will you rave about the overall quality upon leaving the park and location? Unlikely, but that is almost soley because as others have stated the views and surroundings would make almost ANY dining experience a 2nd rate experience. The interior is an upscale lodge feel with rustic notes and plenty of windows floor to ceiling to let in the light/sunshine illuminating off the crystal clear water and contrasting mountains and trees. The setup of the patio and inside are almost ideal for anyone that wants to take in the scenery while they eat or escape the elements while not forgetting why they ventured here in the first place. I was torn between a 3 star (okay) to 4 star (good) rating as we departed and began our journey around the lake. It's above "ok" but really struggles in getting above "good" given the price and overall dishes offered here. These places aren't without their downfalls, as many other reviewers have pointed out. Ultimately, I settled on the 4 star rating because I had little hope for a decent meal at this sort of location, regardless of the price. Once I had finished eating though, I found myself thinking that Cilantro exceeded my expectations rather than letting me down. If you absolutely must eat on site, temper your expections but expect a decent to good meal. Don't believe that you are getting a value at this sort of resort location or you will be sorely disappointed. Would I visit again? Sure - if I didn't have a better option or ability to plan around my visit to Emerald Lake I wouldn't hesitate. However, I would seek alternative plans if I wanted to have a true gourmet experience. That is to not say it is not worth the trip or experience, but it depends on what you are looking for given the location and price. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience and food offered at Cilantro. I think I had much more skepticism than the people who expected more than what they received, which is why I have reviewed in a slightly more rosey lens than some of the other Elites.

This restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating and a quick-stop window called Window at Cilantro on the Lake. It is a charming little restaurant that has beautiful lakefront views of Emerald Lake from their patio seating area. Cilantro on the Lake offers sandwiches, pizza, soups and salads. We put our name in for a table, but were told it would be an hour wait. It was peak season and lots of people were in line to eat. So I went to the takeout window to get something for the road. They have grab-in-go items like sandwiches, snacks, pastries, coffee and tea. I grabbed a Ham & Brie Sandwich and a Latte for lunch and found a spot near the lake to eat it. Food wasn't bad, but the views were worth it. Cilantro on the Lake is seasonal and opens during the summer months.

When we arrived, the server told us we could sit anywhere. After sitting down, we waited quite a while before our server came back, which was surprising since there were only a few tables occupied. We eventually ordered the salmon fillet. We also wanted to order drinks, but our server never returned, so I had to go up to the bar to order instead. That said, the salmon fillet was actually really good and definitely the highlight of the meal. I just wish they had more food options, as the menu is pretty limited.

The parking lot is large but fills up fast with tourists so many park along the main road leading up to the parking lot. The food here was outstanding! Our server wasn't very friendly or welcoming. She was too busy chatting with the bartender. Our food was served warm, so at least she served our food timely. I was so impressed with my salmon filet and potato & spinach tart! They were both sooooo good, I think my husband was jealous of my menu choice. He had the crispy fried oyster mushrooms burger with their soup of the day, chickpea marsala. He said his was good, but he was not overwhelmed like I was. We ordered the molten cake for dessert. My oh my, was it delicious! So dense and quality dark chocolate...yum! It was accompanied with vanilla bean ice cream with a melted chocolate on top that made a hard shell, strawberry slices and a s'more on a stick. Soooo frickin good! Compliments to the chef! Never imagined I'd be served such amazing cuisine at a lake Lodge. Overall I would definitely be back to eat their food, but servers could take a lesson in hospitality.

If you're not alert when looking for it you might miss it. I know I did. The sign outside saying "liquor store" threw me off. "Siding" is a railroad industry term, as in a side rail that deviates from the main railroad track. Yup the railroad tracks do go through town. This is a small mom and pop business that operates as a combination restaurant, coffee shop, and little gift shop. It sort of has a hippie vibe to it but after driving through Field that shouldn't be very surprising. It takes a special eclectic person to live in a small town of 169 people. Prices are a bit high but you can't really blame them because everything inside the National Park is expensive. I wasn't very hungry so I ordered the lesser priced deli sandwich. No complaints there. It was great. Service was great too and provided with a smile. They can tell who's a tourist and who's a local, and it was nice to see they treated everyone exactly the same. The process is simply you order at the counter and then seat yourself. There's approximately eight tables inside surrounded by some miscellaneous trickets and clothing for sale. The inside is very clean. Sure. You bet, I'd return again.

This is a nice-simple menu with something for everyone and not an over the top amount of choices. For this reason ordering was simple and our dinner (see attached photos) was wonderful. We were lucky enough to be able to eat outside in the heated dining area. This alone made this experience a once of a life time. Can you imagine sitting for dinner while overlooking Lake Louise. (Again, see attached pictures.) As the sun sets, the view keeps changing which is why I spent half my time eating and the other half taking pictures. We had a pretty wide variety of food and I will say that everyone found it fresh and tasty. People in our group enjoyed the great steak, chicken, and I always love the fish and chip which I seemed to have a lot of while on this journey. The Warm Peach Strudel was the perfect way to end this perfect meal. The service was amazing and our waitress was just fantastic. The was the perfect model meal...
