We were staying at the Deer Lodge and ate dinner in the restaurant after a long day of exploring the nearby lakes. We came around 9am and were seated quickly after hearing that last call would be in 30 min. We ended up getting the wild boar orecchiette and game burger w/a side of salad. Both dishes were good and comforting for an easy but elevated meal. The pasta came in a good size portion and was well-balanced with veggies throughout. I really liked the game burger which was a mix of bison and beef and loved that I could get a large caesar salad on the side. Really satisfying meal and a great end to a day in Lake Louise. read more

The duck was delicious, flavorful, with a nice crust and a subtle reduction sauce, with surprisingly nice mashed potatoes. The Caesar salad was lackluster with tired, warm lettuce and a sauce that tasted of mayo, and croutons that were an unnatural yellow color. Dessert was a peach cobbler where the strawberries and blackberries unfortunately dominated the flavor. The house-made raspberry-basil ice cream was a nice touch. Service from Alyssa was friendly and helpful and welcoming. So, hard to rate overall with a home run and then two swings and a miss. The hotel itself was a 3/4-star experience, but what put it over the top and made the 5-star rating absolutely necessary was the restaurant, which was by far the highlight. We had one of the best meals of our lives in the Deer Lodge restaurant, no exaggeration! The food, atmosphere and service were all spectacular and if you're staying here, you absolutely need to eat here. We had the Buffalo and Elk plate, Gnocchi and Quinoa cake. It was all incredible. The beer and drinks were also fantastic. I also have to mention our server, Riley, he was great. By the end of the meal, I felt like he was more of a friend rather than our server. He took the time to talk to us about the area, gave us great advice and really was everything you would want from a server at a tourist area like this. If you've been looking for a restaurant in Lake Louise better than the Post, you've found it. The location is magnificent, especially in the winter. Housed in a very old mountain cabin, the dining room was covered in huge mounds of fluffy and creeping snow that gave it the look of something out of a fairytale. As you enter, hunting trophies and old photographs line the walls and highlight the exposed logs. Gorgeous. The staff was very friendly and helpful though their knowledge of the menu could be better. Food was delivered promptly and quality checks performed in a timely manner. Food, oh the food. When you begin the meal with the best bread that I have had the chance to eat, you're off to a good start. When things only get better from there, you're in for a real treat. Two words that you need to know: pistachio risotto. One more word: sweetjeebusthisissogood. This was by far the best side that I've ever eaten and the main was just as good. The salmon was cooked to perfection and well seasoned, nice and light. My companion had the elk and as a country kid, enjoyed it very much compared to "the real deal". High praise I would say. Make sure that you have dessert, it's at least as good as the mains. Chocolate truffle with home made vanilla bean ice cream and raspberry coulee is to die for. I will be back here as often as I am in Lake Louise which after this last trip, will be far more frequently. read more

We had breakfast there our first morning, which took an hour and a half or more. We had one dinner of soup and a pickled veggie plate. They weren't busy then so the service was fine. Started with the big rock IPA. We both got the Bison burger, it was perfect. Definitely recommend. The Blueberry jam makes it. The servers are friendly and accommodating. We ate on the patio and it got chilly so they brought us blankets! Highly recommend this place. And within a few minutes walking to Lake Louise. read more

Walked in and wasn't greeted for 3 minutes. Given a menu and ordered a salad, which they didn't have because they basically ran out of food in the kitchen. The chef stopped making food more than 30 minutes before dinner because they didn't have enough food. The drink pours were TINY and after ordering 2 soups, 1 appetizer, and 4 tiny ass drinks our bill was $110 Canadian dollars (F$@&) NO that's not okay. read more

My wife and I stayed two nights at the Deer Lodge. Our first night we went for dinner at the restaurant downstairs. We asked for a patio table and we're told "pick a table on the right". We did, and then sat for about 5 minutes before I walked over to the server table and grabbed menus myself. 5 minutes later a waitress finally came by. She was clearly stressed and trying to work a number of tables on her own, but took our drink order. My wife ordered an appetizer (chilled melon soup with a scallop) and I asked for bread. 21 minutes (I just happened to notice the time when we ordered) our drinks arrived, and still no soup or bread. The soup quickly followed and was pretty good, but not worth the 17 dollars we paid for it. At this point I was getting irritated. More folks were sitting down and the service was slowing. I finally flagged down a manager, asked again for bread, and placed a dinner order. It had been about 45 minutes at this point. Our bread came out immediately after that, and the meals took another 25 or so minutes. I had grilled walleye which was really good and I would recommend. My wife got a bison burger which after trying I confirmed was dry and overcooked. Bison is lean to begin with so it needs to be medium rare to have any moisture, this was medium well. We finally got out of there an hour and 45 minutes after sitting down. For a $160 dollar meal for two (with drinks) I expect stellar service. This was not even mediocre. We went to the Alpine Social at Fairmont the next night and it was a complete juxtaposition of service levels. Go to the Fairmont, it's not much pricier, and the view, service, and food is way better. read more

Elk meat balls were dry and could have been juicier or had more gravy to go along with it. Same with the Rabbit & Saskatoon Berry Sausage, a tad too dry. Had an (bottled) unfiltered Beaver Tail Raspberry Ale to go along with the meal which was top-notch! Ambience was fantastic and more than makes up for any misses in the food. Got a 8:30 reservation, walked in with only three parities inside. - had to asked for my wine twice because the waiter forgot my wine. - they ran out of paste and didn't tell us. - the "home-made" ice-cream was bought. What an absolute mess of a restaurant. Came here because of the good reviews but service was terrible and food was sub par. We initially asked to be seated in the dining room but opted to sit outside because menu was more diverse and weather was nice. Maitre d said we could sit anywhere so we took a seat at an uncleaned table that was large enough to seat the three of us. After 10 mins of waiting someone finally served us. Waiter ( I don't remember his name) was incredibly rude. When waiter came up to us he asked if we were eating here ( like hello, why else would we be sitting here at this uncleaned table for 10 minutes). He almost had the air that he didn't want to serve us/ looked down on us possibly assuming that we couldn't afford the place. We asked if we could actually be moved inside because service was so slow and he refused saying the dining room was completely booked despite the dining room being completely empty and the maitre d telling us before that we could sit inside. The server that we initially dealt with actually wasn't even in charge of our table, and we were handed off to another server (Aurora I think, who was very friendly and attentive). Anyway onto the food. Quality is not worth the price. We ordered a charcuterie platter, the gnocchi and the elk tenderloin. Charcuterie platter was meh and there was a piece of hair on one of the items that definitely did not come from any of us. Gnocchi fell flat, no flavor in the sauce . In addition there was too much flour in the gnocchi causing them to be dense and sticky and not light and fluffy at all. Elk tenderloin was cooked well but sauce made it taste irony. Funny aside: the table next to ours dined and dashed and one of the waiters had to chase after them making for interesting dinner entertainment but reflecting how completely disorganized and mismanaged this restaurant is as a whole. If you want to find a good dinner spot in lake Louise I suggest you skip this restaurant. read more

A little pricey, but everything in Canada seems to be that way. The food preparation and presentation was excellent. The waitress was not friendly, but the food made up for it. Two meals in this place in as many days. Both excellent. The wait staff at this establishment needs some serious improvement. Nobody smiles here. Delicious and great service! My husband and I made reservations for 8pm and was sat immediately. Our waiter, Brad, was friendly, attentive and shared about the restaurant and the in-house CRMR farm from which they source much of their food. We shared the gazpacho soup and it was light with crisp vegetable bits. I had the caribou medallions and my husband the elk tenderloin. Both dishes were savory and cooked perfectly with a delicious reduction sauce and perfect accompanying vegetables like gold beets, fingerling potatoes and asparagus. The price is comparable to nearby fine dining restaurants with an added bonus of being cozy and super welcoming. Our first night in Lake Louise we couldn't get a reservation at our hotel restaurant until after 8:00 pm, so decided to drive around. We entered the Mt. Fairview Restaurant after noticing the carved wooden sign for the lodge on the road to Lake Louise. Since this was our first time in the Canadian Rockies, we weren't sure what to expect. We weren't expecting anything bad, so we weren't "pleasantly surprised," but we were very happy with our experience here. The bread provided at the start was warm, perfectly baked and tasty, as we were to find in all the restaurants in Banff / Lake Louise. I had the best homemade pasta with mushrooms in a beef broth; it was so good I kept wanting to go back throughout the rest of our trip to have it again. I don't even remember what hubby had -- my dish was so dreamy. But whatever he had, and whatever else we both shared, was excellent. Our servers were nice and friendly and, on top of everything, it started snowing while we were there. That was magical: being in a warm, cozy lodge with delicious, hearty food and real snow piling up outside. A great start to hubby's birthday vacation! read more

We were seated immediately upon arriving. The waitress, Alyssa, was very good. She was attentive and friendly. She explained the menu items and we selected the salmon and walleye entries. Both were excellent and presented very well. One of the best salmon entrees I have had in some time. The same can be said about the walleye my wife had. The restaurant is within 5 minute walk of Lake Louise and the view from the restaurant is the glacier overlooking the lake. read more
