We (59/ 57 yo old couple) chose the Kettle Crest Trail due to the vista, location, and this ride was head and shoulders above our other rides in quality, duration and difficulty! It is NOT for the faint of heart. The trails are mostly narrow with steep drop-offs (ie no two tracks), but the horses handle it beautifully, and at the end of the day you will likely say "Wow!". The Schertenleib's were on time and ready to go as scheduled. The location is well-marked and easy to find using their instructions. They gave a short introduction for new riders, and pick the horses to match the riders ability and experience. The horses appeared to this newbie to be healthy and very well-trained. Blaze and Frankie were our mounts, and they were fantastic Rosie led the ride, which lasted ~4-1/2 hours roundtrip through very rugged and remote terrain. Temperatures were in the mid 90's which likely resulted in not seeing any wild game. Approximately 2/3 of the way through the ride there is a 20-30 minute rest time at a remote cabin (available for rent from the state). Anything you bring will be limited to whatever you can fit into a small saddlebag, so pack lightly. We highly recommend True West Trail Rides, and we are looking forward to riding with them again! read more

This was the BEST memory of our trip to Glacier National forest- we made a appointment for the early morning ride and it did not disappoint ! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and the horses were clean, strong and happy... We will definitely take our whole family up next trip and share this happiness with them! read more

Always a fantastic time at True West Trail Rides. We do it every year. Sheila is a wonderful guide and really makes sure we're all educated and informed with the horses before leaving and keeps us busy on the rides. I'd do it more often if my knees were so bad. And talk about affordable! There's no excuse NOT to do a trail ride a few times a year. Next time we're gonna try a different park for some new scenery. My daughter and I have had 2 incredible 2-hour horseback rides with True West Trail Rides! Not your typical plod-along horseback ride, they match your horsemanship experience with your horse. Our guide was so good with my daughter. He spent the ride giving her history lessons of the area, pointing out flora and fauna (we have beavers here?), telling her step by step how Native Americans made pemmican from the berries, and even stopped to dismount and pick some wild strawberries for her to try. I really cannot praise this outfit enough. They vary the ride. It's not the same trail every time, which I appreciate. read more

Today I took my soon-to-be 12yo grand-daughter on a two-hour trail ride with True West Trail Rides through Spokane's Riverside State Park. I should preface my review with the fact that I'm a recovering (and retired) former "horse snob". I showed horses, wrote and photographed for equine magazines, and brokered show horses. I know what a good horse acts like on the trail. I also know what a decently bred and well-kept horse looks like. And, I must say, owner of TWTR "Sheila" knows how to "pick 'em". And, most importantly, "keep 'em". Her animals were all clean, particularly attractive (Sheila used to show horses as well), in good flesh (no stinginess on their feed) and super well-mannered. It's rare these days to find "bullet-proof" horses. But Sheila's managed to put together a string of them. And just importantly, she's a stickler for safety and picking the right horse for the right rider. Then there was the ridiculously beautiful ambiance of Riverside State Park. Nothing quite so peaceful as riding a quiet safe horse along the banks of a breathtaking river....especially if it's with a loved one. "Gramma, I want to come here for every birthday from here on out," my young one said. I agreed. Now THIS kind of memory is far more valuable than most anything that comes in a box. It'll be something my grandgirl will never outgrow....and never forget. (One of the best parts was the pricing per person--$25 for an hour's ride. $50 for two hours. Oh, and the delightfully pleasant personality of Sheila. She has the heart of a servant, giving my grand riding tips without being heavy handed, patient, and kind to both riders AND horses.) read more
