They are very reliable and their goal is make certain you have a fun vacation and positive experience. We were visiting CDA for the first time with our family and having the boat really made the difference for our vacation. We will definitely go back and will rent from them again. Though my skills were obviously rusty (to say the least) and he corrected many of the common mistakes one would expect after such a long lapse of time. The fly fishing I do is rivers, not lakes, so didn't know what I needed or where to start. I talked with a very nice man named Bo. He was super helpful, explained what I needed to bring, the weight of the rod, the sinking weight of the line & the technique for sinking flies in big lakes. I ask for some flies and he mailed me a very nice box filled with wet flies & some sinking leaders. So.... went fishing & OMG!!!! you would not believe the fish we caught using the flies Bo sent us. Wowza!! If I am ever in Spokane I will make sure to stop by Silver Bow Fly Shop.

We consider ourselves to be at intermediate riding level so 2 hours of very slow riding was a bit boring after a while. This is absolutely perfect for beginners. If you're an advance rider you'll be bored. Horses were gentle and friendly. They were well groomed and appeared healthy. The ride is somewhat scenic. Most of the ride was through the forest trail . Our guide could be more personable. I didn't really care much for interacting with her. Also, horses are trained to be walking very close to one another which personally I didn't like. I prefer riding some distance away from the horse in front of me. My horse's head was almost in the butt of the horse in front of me.

It is NOT for the faint of heart. The trails are mostly narrow with steep drop-offs (ie no two tracks), but the horses handle it beautifully, and at the end of the day you will likely say "Wow!". The Schertenleib's were on time and ready to go as scheduled. The location is well-marked and easy to find using their instructions. They gave a short introduction for new riders, and pick the horses to match the riders ability and experience. The horses appeared to this newbie to be healthy and very well-trained. Blaze and Frankie were our mounts, and they were fantastic Rosie led the ride, which lasted ~4-1/2 hours roundtrip through very rugged and remote terrain. Temperatures were in the mid 90's which likely resulted in not seeing any wild game. Approximately 2/3 of the way through the ride there is a 20-30 minute rest time at a remote cabin (available for rent from the state). Anything you bring will be limited to whatever you can fit into a small saddlebag, so pack lightly. We highly recommend True West Trail Rides, and we are looking forward to riding with them again!

Fish Lake is a warm water lake on the southwest side of Spokane. It's in an area with few other…read morelakes so a weekend visit in the summer is not advised unless you like crowds. The best way to explore the lake is on watercraft, canoe, kayak, or paddleboard, to escape the crowds and appreciate the natural weed growth with pine tree backdrop. I quickly fished the boat launch once, catching a fish about the size of my fishing lure, and was about to fish one of their docks when I noticed that a group of teenagers had decided to use the dock as a diving platform to practice cannonballs. Fishing Fish Lake should probably be restricted to early morning hours, before the local teenagers are up.

It had been a couple of years since I had been flyfishing. Marc did a great job of reviewing a few techniques as we got started as well as pointing out when to use those techniques. He was really patient as it took a while for things to come back to me. Practice. Practice. Practice. Marc had a variety of flys to work with and was quick to make changes on his set of rods in order to determine what would get a hit. About mid-way through our morning he hit on a great combination of flys. Ended up bringing in two trout and a whitefish. Should have had more as there were more bites but I was just out of practice. What a great experience and guide. Marc enhanced the whole trip with even more information about the river, wildlife, community and more. Highly suggested!
