Pretty good for a place in a supermarket. The chopped brisket was great and not too fatty at all. For some reason they don't just give you the free pickles, onions, and bread. You have to ask for them. Go early! I went at 7:30 and they were already out of ribs, potato salad, sausages and were running out of corn and mac and cheese as the people after me ordered. Not sure how early you actually have to get here to get everything on the menu... The peach cobbler would have been really good if it wasn't all bread and only 3 tiny pieces of peach. read more

I love this place!! I've been to Franklins,Black's,Kreuz's and Main Street Market in Luling and the brisket is on point here. I live in San Diego now and I have yet to find good smoked brisket. First time to new HEB did not realize there was a restaurant inside. My first reaction was BBQ no way. I walked up to the counter and was greeted by a young man "Hayes" and I told him I had never been here before. He was kind and helpful and walked me through all the different ways I could order BBQ. I got a two meat plate with fatty brisket and ribs, Mac/cheese and a pina colada pudding. Hayes said that the pudding was new and was more like coconut cream pie than pina colada. The brisket was amazing, juicy and delicious, as I am writing this my mouth salivates. The pudding was a huge surprise as well. I plan on coming back with my family when they are in town not just for the food but the great customer service. read more

First time trying this new place inside HEB and will probably be the last. I ordered the chopped brisket sandwich and it was frankly awful. All I could taste was salt and lots of it! I have no idea if it tasted smoked or what, and the saltiness seemed to get worse with each bite until I could take no more. I wrapped up the remaining sandwich and took it to the counter and told the young man it was so salty I couldn't eat any more of it. He asked me what did I want him to do about it, and I replied 'return the money back to me', but he said he could let me try something else and I said'Do you have anything that's not too salty?' And he said the turkey so I agreed to try that. While I was waiting on it, they suggested I sample the BBQ sauces across the room as I might like some for the turkey sandwich. They had 3 different kinds and all 3 were extremely salty, so I ate the T sandwich dry. It was not too bad and there was a good amount on it, but nothing to write home about. So if you want to eat 2 days sodium daily allowance in one sandwich this is the place. It seems like less than a month ago some federal dept was in the news recommending that restaurants reduce the among of sodium in their products because of all the many negative health effects, but clearly they will have to mandate a change. Who cares about hypertension, heart and kidney problems on our young as well as middle age, who it must be assumed are too ignorant to know what a salt shaker on the table is for so salt must be forced down our throats. read more

I ate at this place for the first time and got FOOD POISONING for an entire week. I rarely get sick from eating out and although the place seemed popular, I would not trust eating there again. Wow! I love this BBQ place. It's inside a grocery store (H.E.B.). Plus HH 4 to 9pm I think M - F, $1 off Drafts & Bottled Beer. Food is delicious and reasonable prices. I travel a lot and a very picky eater. Peep if you're in Midland this is an excellent place for BBQ/Grocery shopping. And we purchased Avocado and Chips made Guacamole. read more

Solid place. Got the 2 meat plate, turkey and brisket. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Not impressed with the green beans or baked potato. Very impressed with all 3 BBQ sauces they offered (Texas, Carolina and KC). Texas was obviously the best. read more

We have purchased BBQ at HEB several times since they opened on Loop 250 and it has been excellent. Tonight was a different story. My wife picked up a pound of brisket with sides and brought home. We opened the package and it was nothing but burned fat. We ended up throwing most of it away. Very disappointed. We will try it again but if it is like it was tonight we will not go back. read more

I was on a 10 day cycling trip around Southwest Texas and never had an opportunity to eat any Texas BBQ throughout the trip because of the small & remote towns we visited. On our last night before flying out we stayed in a very nice Town Place Suites hotel in Midland, TX that was near a few eateries and a H.E.B. Grocery store. As we were pulling in to the hotel I saw a sign on the front of the HEB store "True Texas BBQ ". Boy was I skeptical. But I was craving BBQ and thought I'd give it a try. WOW what a surprise!! I had pulled pork, smoked chicken breast, lean brisket, mac & cheese, brisket beans and cole slaw. All the food was superb, and I'd say one of the best if not THE best BBQ I've ever had! The smoked chicken in particular was exceptional - tender & moist, light smoke flavor and perfectly seasoned. The coleslaw looked like it was made in-house and tasted just as good, it was shredded and not swimming in dressing. The lean brisket was nicely cooked and was slightly charred on the outside edges, exactly as it should be. The brisket was tender and lean, not too salty, and perfectly seasoned. It stood on its own. The meat portion sizes were quite large so be conservative when you order. The chicken breast was a full breast and on the large side. My eyes were bigger than my stomach and I couldn't eat everything even though I wanted to! So don't be put off by the location inside the grocery store, the food was mouth watering and of the highest quality. The seating area was a bit noisy and busy so I took mine "to go" and enjoyed it at my hotel. If you see one of these True Texas BBQ eateries don't hesitate to try it if you savor REAL BBQ, you'll get it! read more
