So I tried this place once before and the beef tips were okay. They definitely needed more time to cook and get tender. The greens trio is definitely good could use just a little more seasoning. The Mac n cheese? Not good at all noodles were definitely over cooked and there's just no flavor. When I eat soul food I want you to season it with your whole heart and soul! Went for lunch today. It was my first visit. Good menu selection Meat and 3 sides. The smothered pork chops were excellent. The 3 sides very good. The catfish, mash potatoes, macaroni, and hush puppies tasted good. The fried chicken was questionable. It felt like it was over crispy or 3rd degree crispy. It hardly had any meat. It was all crispy. I am not sure if this how it supposed to be like. Even one friend that likes crispy chicken said, that's overkill. We not familiar with soul food... The Broccoli/rice was very delicious! I was not expecting this side order to be that tasty. Also, I did try their cool-aid. It was very sugary. I will leave it like that. Driving around midland looking for a place to eat as most places are closed on Sunday and Monday!!!! Ok drove by and saw a sign that said soul food!!! Bust a big U and came in. Place looks promising, but it took them a while to come out and help me. She came out and cleaned a couple of tables and then came by to help me. I order a Diet Coke and Fried Pork Chops with Rice, Sweet Corn and Mash and Gravy. About another 5 minutes went by and i had to ask for tNow i have been to MANY soul food restaurants growing up and part of me was expecting it certain way. Well it came out and the batter was tasteless, pork chop was dried and burnt, all the sides came in its own container (not a big deal) no gravy for the rice or the pork chop. Talked with the sous-chef and he felt bad and said it was on Gina me to give them a second tried. Ok second tried was just as bad as the first time. I order smothered pork chop and the gravy was clumppy like a frozen dinner gravy when I was a kid. The pork chipped was hard and I was fighting to cut it. I ate the side and left. This is the best food in Midland and some of the best I've ever had in my life. Fried chicken was amazing, came with 2 wings and a leg. Mac and cheese was incredible and the mashed was awesome too with that brown gravy I could drink straight out the pan. Finished it off with the candied yams and a piece of cornbread that tasted like honey butter and I was in heaven. My fiancé had the catfish which was just as good as the chicken, cornbread dressing (maybe the best side of them all), Mac, and broccoli rice casserole which was great too. They had desserts but we didn't have room for them this time. I'm coming back next weekend to try the chicken and dumplings (some items only available certain days it seems). It's taking me weeks of rumination and intense soul searching to write this. The food here borders on the transcendental and can go pound for pound with the best restaurants in midland tx. So here's what I've tried. The catfish, fried chicken, beef tips, meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, smothered pork chops, fried pork chops and I can say they were all phenomenal (although the smothered pork chop doesn't travel well) and usually came in portions that could choke a horse or feed a large man twice. If your only going to eat once today get the fried chicken (or catfish) meal and expect to be too stuffed to move for the next few hours. As far as sides go the number one is definitely mashed potatoes with brown gravy but they are all amazing. The red beans, corn, Mac and cheese, green vand fried okra (especially the fried okra omg). My gf loves the cornbread dressing, especially when they throw in the cranberry sauce! read more

I can't recommend this place more. I truly believe it was the best plate of food I've probably ever had. From the first bite of broccoli and rice casserole, I was hooked. I exclaimed "this is so good" with my mouth full after every single bite. Every item on my plate was no less than divine. Not to be dramatic, but each bite felt like a spiritual awakening. Entrees come with one side for a lower price but we each tried the meal options so we could try more of the heavenly sides which is definitely the way to go. The people running this place are some of the nicest people I have encountered in Midland, so I will be supporting them and this venture because good people that provide a great service deserve to succeed.
