Johnny's has changed just in a few months. Went yesterday to get my pregnant wife some good ol' brisket because that's what she was craving and ended up disappointed by the price and amount of food 16.77 for a one meat BBQ plate OMG! Since when?? I know times is tough but remember the people in the community who been helping keep the doors open. Need a lot more love on those plate if your going to continue to charge that amount is all I'm saying. read more

I'm done with this place. It was pretty good in the beginning and has gradually gone downhill. We got our order to go. They are quick to get your order, so that's why they got a 2 star rating. The sliced bbq had so much fat/gristle, that you couldn't even chew it. I had to throw it away. For the chopped bbq, they chop it so fine that you can't hold it on the bun because it all falls off and it doesn't really taste like bbq. They also asked if I wanted the pickles, onions and jalapeños on the side, and only gave one (and it was sparse). We also only got one bbq sauce. Stopped in Saturday while I was on that side of town to grab a quick lunch and wasn't disappointed. Food was fresh and hot. The brisket was smoked right in point and all the sides were fresh. This is probably the best BBQ in Odessa! The atmosphere here is western, which is really nice. The place is CLEAN! And after you eat you can have free soft serve ice cream, and it's really good! This place is officially my favorite BBQ joint. The only thing I didn't like is the buzzer for the door which is INCREDIBLY annoying. But if you haven't you really need to try this place! read more

Have eaten at Johnny's Barbecue many times. WHY - you ask? Because it's convenient for a group of us to get together. They have a room in the back (that's very nice) that a Group can "Borrow" for meetings. They only ask that everyone in the group buy a meal. Just ate there last night (again) and the Barbequed Beef was in the Top Ten category of the worst food that I've ever eaten. Even though I was starving, I only ate a bite of it. I am NOT a fussy eater, either. I eat most anything that hasn't been dropped on the floor. The Barbequed Beef was so greasy that it turned my stomach the second that I put it in my mouth. It was disgusting! I threw all of my food in the garbage. I know that I will have to continue to eat there (because of our Meetings). They have tiny little pieces of cobbler, in tiny little bowls. Maybe I'll just have the cobbler when I go there. Only eat here if you have to. read more

Under cooked beans, sausage foul taste, brisket mire like pot roast and the turkey was a cheap imitation of butterball sliced from walmart deli. Husband was hankering for some BBQ and we decided to try Johnny's since it was close to our destination. Our review is mixed. One one hand, the meat was delicious, juicy and flavorful. I had the sausage & brisket and he had the sausage and ribs. On the other hand the sides were horrible. Just horrible. The potato salad had so much sugar in it that it was inedible. Gross. The beans were little rock pellets. Again, inedible. The tea was very fresh and good. We also had peach cobbler. My serving was all dried out crust but he loved his (he had peaches!) We have eaten here for years and everything has always been good until today. We ordered brisket and hot link dinners to go, and were expecting the usual lean brisket that we've always enjoyed. What a surprise when we got home. The brisket was a greasy mess with fat throughout. It didn't even resemble brisket, and was gray in color and very soft and mushy like oatmeal. The hot link slices were burnt, dry and shriveled. I went inside to place our order, and normally you can watch them cut your meat through a window that separates the customer from the employees. However, today there was a large sheet of aluminum foil on the window obstructing the view, which is why I didn't see what I was getting. Also, there were flies galore. We could not eat the meats and threw them out. Needless to say, this is the last time we will go to Johnny's. read more

Add some baked beans and corn to load the bases followed with some complimentary soft serve ice cream for a home run of a lunch. Their prices are reasonable and they have a drive through window. we found this place through a online delivery place. The first time we had it I LOVED it. Sadly in the past month or two it has made our "Do Not Eat At" list we had the Brisket, potato salad, macaroni salad, peach cobbler. Everything was amazing. Second time we ordered 10 bbq pulled sandwiches with peach cobbler and potato salad. it all tasted amazing again. So i figured that this was a great place to order food from since the flavor and quality was consistent. I ordered 10 bbq pulled sandwiches again with potato salad. The bread was SOAKED in fatty oil from the meat that it made my husband sick at work, I couldnt even eat mine. The potato salad tasted horrible. it tasted like the just chucked it all together without tasting it. He only ate three i ate two. we wasted $10 of uneaten food. Never again will we eat at this place ever. I wont even recommend it at all period. New cooks should be properly trained to make the foods right and actually sample the batches. read more

I've eaten here more than twice over the last three years when I'm in town. Having eaten bbq all over the country I have come to understand that bbq is a very personal thing. Either you like the style or you don't. That said, for me Johnny ' s hits the mark but I like my bbq on the smokey side. When I go I get the brisket and sausages with green beans and beans. I agree that once in a while the sides are okay but not awesome. However, I have never gone to a bbq fir the sides. Because the bbq is solid I give four stars. I have always like there food. Tonight was one of the worst meals I have ever had in my life. I got 2 3 meat plates delivered from Basin Delivery paid almost $40. I ordered brisket and received chop beef. On both plates the ribs were raw couldn't even get the meat off the bone. The ham was a half slice which was dried out. after reading a two year old review I decided to try Johnny's for some barbecue while on business in Odessa Tx. Upon arriving we walked up to t.he counter and what looked like disposed of meat was in a container on the counter near the rest off the meats on display. while ordering a brisket sandwich combo I was charged eight dollars for a sandwich with a small amount of brisket, a serving spoonful of watery beans a small portion of corn and a small tea all for eight dollars when I told the mgr that I was not satisfied with my meal I was told sorry I cannot help you only the owner can help you with that. This did not bother me at all as some of the best bbq places I've eaten in throughout Texas were cafeteria-style. But . . . The brisket was dry and bland. The ribs were tasty but held more fat than beef. Both servings of meat were plentiful, however. The sides, on the other hand, were slight. The slaw was near tasteless; the beans; mushy. The bbq sauce was mild, to put it mildly. The staff looked and acted like the cast of the pilot of a workplace sit-com that wasn't picked up. This is one of those few places where I'm Torn. While I do enjoy the sort of Mom and Pop Restaurant style, and I'm all for supporting local Restaurants, I just don't care for the atmosphere. The Lighting is very dim, and almost depressing, and the Cafeteria style feel just gives it this dingy aura. However, where this place shines is the Food. The Food is a major redeeming quality. For starters, the Ribs are Spectacular. They have a great balance of meat to fat. The Bark has a very good chaw to it, the Smoke ring is very well balanced and the sauce is the right balance of Mild and Spice, however it does lack in innovative taste. While I'm not much of a Cole Slaw person, I will say the Slaw is pretty good as a light smear with the BBQ Sauce on some Toast with a slice or Two of their Brisket. However, leave the Fat on, because the Brisket can be a little bit dry. The Cobbler is good, just try to get it fresh before it sits too long. All in all, it's a good place to stop for a little bit of lunch every now and then, just not regularly. read more
