I was visiting my inlaws and really wanted to have a BBQ baked potato. True Texas BBQ hit the spot! We were there after Christmas and it wasn't busy at all on a Friday at 5PM. You order on a touchscreen, so it was easy to make sure we customized our orders. It didn't take too long to get the food either. Note: make sure to get the sauce from the condiment area. The baked potatoes themselves weren't as big as I've had, but still very filling. I opted for chopped brisket with everything on it. I do think there could have been more cheese. My mother-in-law opted for a plain potato with just cheese and butter and she also commented on how hers didn't have much cheese on it. We also got the cornbread and when we first tried it, it was a bit hard. We nuked it in the microwave and that made it much better to eat. Pricing was reasonable, though I'm used to paying a lot more for food in California, so that may not be the norm in Texas. read more

My first texas bbq in houston, and it's inside an heb lol. For a counter service, grocery store adjacent, quick eats type place, this place is great. Tasty ribs (fall off bone but not the juiciest), yummy fried okra, and chicken in a halfhearted effort to be healthier lol. read more

It's been awhile since I last been here. We were in the area for something and we wanted BBQ but make it quick because we have work/school in the morning. The first thing I noticed was you have to order off the screens now. I also noticed that that prices have went up but the portions are smaller. When I first moved to Texas and lived in kingwood (granted it was 4 years ago) I remember this place having bigger portions. Me and my partner split a loaded baked potato with brisket but thank god he had Mac and cheese as well because I would of stayed hungry after eating the potato. Granted we ordered and ate the last hour of service so maybe it had something to do with it. I mean I would eat here again but just know something has changed read more

The food is OK, typical for a BBQ restaurant. However, the recent change in ownership has resulted to two things. 1. Less service 2. Higher prices 1. Less service: Like other companies (McDonald's etc), they want you to input your order on a computer. However, this interface is less useful. The screen starts with the most expensive options and sizes. Large - small. What is small or large it's not displayed and other details about the order. They want your details too, pay cash they still want all contact information to complete the order. Only a corporate tool would love to order here. 2. Higher Prices: Two medium sandwiches with medium side, and two 16 oz soft drinks $45 + dollars. These prices given the service, defiles logic. Well not all logic, profits are king and a sucker is born every day. I won't be going back. read more

I don't know what happened. I used to go here quite often for wings, brisket sandwich, or a chopped beef potato. I backed of for awhile to return for a potato and it's like the kitchen accounting nazi's started working there. They moved to plastic boxes vs the paper they originally had plus the potato was small and they gave me about a tablespoon of beef where it used to be overflowing. Someone is trying to squeeze pennies out of it all and it's disappointing. The food was still tasty but they are clearly trying to gain efficiency/save money. read more

Upon arrival was greeted with upmost kindness. Though once got my potato the meat was excellent but the potato was very dry. I requested meat only but truth is the potato had to be sitting under the light and gave a real dry look and taste. I took it to associate but no action was taken, very disappointed. I was told had it had butter put on it, It would had been moist which I find it hard to believe only for the simple fact I have had ordered this before at other BBQ restaurants and didn't get a potato that was like this one. I don't recommend. read more

Used the love this place, but like everything else they had to new and improve it. Except they didn't! You now have to order on a touch screen and if you don't pay attention the sides come in small condiment containers, really? who wants 2 bites of baked beans? Why do companies always feel the need to fix what's not broken? HEB in general is not what it used to be! Looks Imna give Trader Joe's a try!! read more

I go in to order 2 lbs. of brisket and I'm looking at a Kiosk, NOPE I'm not spending 100 dollars of my money to have no live body, Screw HEB

This was my second visit. I do like this restaurant concept inside of the HEB. I ordered the sauced brisket mac & cheese and saw someone else grab a banana pudding so I gave it a try too. The cashier and staff were nice and they got the food out fast. I did enjoy the brisket mac & cheese. There could have been a little more brisket on it, but I did enjoy all of the toppings. It gave it a nice crunch to it. The banana pudding wasn't sweet or flavorful enough for me. I would probably try this spot again and try their potatoes. read more

Went from the best years ago to fast food junk. Ribs were melt in your mouth and falling off bone. couldn't get enough. Then recipe changed and ribs had a gooey sugary hard crust like most fast food places. Then recently the crust on the ribs went from bad to worst with more thick crust than meat. Beef was the same but easier to cut of crust. Won't be back. Quest for how it used to be continues. read more

I have eaten here numerous times. The barbecue has good flavor. The issue for me is that it's not hot. Not even warm. Very off putting. Not only is the meat barely warm, the baked potatoes are not even hot enough to melt butter! Maybe that's why they didn't put any on it for me the other day. If they could fix the temp issues, this place would probably be hopping. read more

This place is not consistent. Food is ok, but frequently have to speak with Manager about portions and instructions in packaging. Now charging fee if you want to go meat in a pan instead of butcher paper. I frequently get home and pound of meat is less than pound in my meat scale. Very stingy with portions, staff resisting giving sauce or condiments. Just not worth the price. Only reason we revisit is due to location and convenience. If it wasn't inside HEB we wouldn't repeat visit. read more

BBQ and happy hour Tuesday! Brisket was tender and juicy. The collard greens were so tasty and steaming hot. Cole slaw was dressed well and had a great flavor. The brisket sandwich was a special and the picture doesn't do it justice. It was delicious and the service was pretty fast. Paired it up with a couple of ice cold draft beers. Would definitely recommend. read more

Our son and daughter in-law brought us here as our first stop upon arriving in Houston and my husband doesn't want to eat anywhere else. Yes, it was THAT good!! It's located inside of an H-E-B supermarket, but don't let that fool you, it's delicious Texas BBQ! My husband ordered the brisket, and I got the pulled pork sandwich. The sides were also impressive. We tried the macaroni and cheese, greens, beans, coleslaw and their Texas size baked potato. read more

Surprisingly good bbq; pulled pork baked potato was large, and toppings generous. Big enough for 2 meals for me, so good value!

My first time at this restaurant. The service was good. The brisket and ribs were underwhelming. The brisket didn't have much flavor as others brisket I've had, the ribs were too tough; hard to chew, didn't fall off the bone. The Mac and cheese was gross, no taste, bland. The greens were good. read more

We have tried this barbecue four times now and my only criticism is that the meat is WAY too smoky to the point that we can barely eat it. The meat itself is tender and the seasoning is great but way too much smoke. All the side items and service is amazing! read more

I've tried the ribs at the Main St location and they were great! The ribs at the new 380 &. 423 location were so spicy we couldn't eat them. The collard greens were even hotter. People can add heat or use spicy bbq sauce so the food shouldn't be prepared with so much spice. Disappointed. Threw them away. $40 wasted. read more

I really love this place. I've been there 4 times in the past couple of weeks. What's good? Dino rib for one! It's huge but a very good cut of meat. Also, I love the sliced (lean cut) brisket. My favorite side is the Mac & Cheese, it's divine! The servers are very friendly and helpful. They also have a great selection of local craft beer on tap! Goes down really well with that Dino rib on a Friday night, just saying! read more

I really wanted to like this place. The atmosphere is great however the food is not. I spent $29-30 here for two and okay that's normal. The food was bad we ordered a brisket burger that came out small (the size of my palm) and cold. Then lemon pepper wings that were soooo over seasoned my husband couldn't eat them. The wings were also pink inside so that's not good. I think the only thing we ate was the Mac and cheese and that was subpar too. read more

Been there a couple times during the lockdown. Service was slow but the food was pretty good. We preferred the lean brisket a tad over the fatty, but I think it's because it made us feel less guilty eating it. Dino ribs Friday from 5 pm to closing did not disappoint. They're expensive but they're big. And we like big. read more

I wanted to like this place because I love all things H-E-B, but I can't recommend it. Almost $10 for 1/2 of a pound of ribs. Three tiny little ribs. 50% bone so basically $10 for 4oz or $40/lb for rib meat Geeze. read more

I really love the food here. The bbq is solid. My husband loves the brisket beans... and the brisket for that matter. The loaded cornbread is amazing as are the cobblers. So... why three stars? Here's why. They mess up my order 100% of the time. I have yet to get even one order correct. It does not matter if I order in, get it to go, or Door Dash. It is always wrong. Some days it's okay. Some days, it is really wrong though and ruins the meal. I keep hoping. We try this place once a week because it is good and convenient. They just haven't been right yet read more

Delicious BBQ and good value. We love their brisket and ribs! Super convenient and friendly staff. Give it a try.

We originally had some issues with their lack of generosity on the onions and pickles. We would place a large order (over $100) and feel like we had to beg for more supplies. But this has not been as much of an issue lately and we love their BBQ beans, ribs, sausage and brisket. We love HEB anyhow and this is so close and convenient. It is not a cheap meal but well worth the happy mouth experience it brings. :) Thank you HEB! read more

I have never been charged extra for sliced jalapeño peppers before going to this place. Every other BBQ restaurant provides Bbq sauce, pickles, onions and jalapeños with a sandwich. Not here. It was only .50 per sandwich, but still you fell being nickled and dimed. For the price, the portions seemed small. There are much better options in Kingwood. read more

We enjoyed our meal, the lean brisket was still moist and great flavor, the moist brisket was a little too much on the fatty side. We also enjoyed the creamed corn and Mac n cheese but not so much on the green beans. The beans had a heavy tomato taste, tasted like I was eating soup. The Mac n cheese was good, extremely gooey cheese if you like it that way. Next time I'll try the potatoes salad and cole slaw. The chicken was a great price for a large amount and was really flavorful. We didn't care for the sauces but the brisket doesn't need it anyway. They have a nice ice and water machine which I appreciated. We didn't like everything but there were enough items that we did enjoy to bring us back! read more

I've tried True Texas BBQ twice in the last week. I've experienced better. The sausage is greasy and a bit tough. The fatty brisket is sure enough fatty! Tender, but lots of fat. The "sweet" sauce is horrible. Worst I've had. Most of the BBQ joints in and around Austin have nothing to worry about. HEB has a long way to go to get it right. Perhaps in another year or two? read more

Yuk. Boiled roast beef for BBQ. Asked for potato with sliced meet. Received a ok potato with chopped pieces of greasy fat. asked the guy for pickles and he reached into a jar with his bare hands a put a fistful directly on the tray. Nasty. I voiced my displeasure with paying 1.50 extra for slices vs chopped in comparison to wjat I received amd he replied he could try and get bigger little pieces. Needless to say I set my paid for tray of food on the table and left. I have standards and the desire to eat that garbage was way below. read more

Not very good, dry meat. Disappointed from the flavor and non fresh sides they were mainly canned beans corn and flavorless.

I live in lake charles but whenever I go home to visit, I always like to stop by H-E-B. I have eaten here several times and everytime the food has been great until today. I ordered 1lb of fatty brisket to take home for dinner. The brisket consists of two parts, the flat and point. The point is often referred to as fatty or moist at most places but it doesn't necessarily mean it's All fat. When I unwrapped the brisket, nearly the entire pound was fat and unedible. I was so disappointed because that was supposed to be our dinner and I always look forward to eating their food, plus, the food is typically on point. I'm not sure if this was due to being later in the afternoon or what but that was essentially $20 down the drain. Lesson learned, check your order prior to leaving if you get the fatty brisket. Besides today's experience, The brisket is moist and flavorful. The ribs are juicy and nicely sized. The beef rib is awesome but kind of expensive ($20) but then again, that's the going rate. The cornbread is awesome with the honey butter. 31DEC18 Update: I was asked for my contact information via Yelp and was told someone would call me. It's been over three weeks and still nothing. I messaged the H-E-B rep again and no reply. Very disappointed in their customer service at this specific location. read more
