After the retreat, there was an immediate and complete cutoff in communication with all of us--something entirely out of character and deeply painful. The staff were kind when I reached out, and I respect that many benefit from this practice. However, I don't believe there is enough awareness about how intense 10 days of silence and deep introspection can be, especially for someone already going through major life changes. When such a drastic shift happens so suddenly, it raises real concerns about vulnerability, influence, and lack of support during reintegration. There are classes in a variety of topics related to the study of yoga science and meditation, and opportunities for practicing it. All of this in the midst of the beauty of one of the founders' amazing artwork. The basic 6-week Learn to Meditate course is life-changing, though there is a shorter Saturday morning intro class, as well. Experience it yourself! Tonight I enjoyed one of the monthly Friday "Dinner & a Movie" evenings. Learning to practice meditation using the teaching has transformed my life and lowered my stress levels significantly. I recommend that everyone at least take the beginning meditation course as a starting point. Meditation is good for everyone but it takes discipline and persistence. They offer a $5 day pass option for guests, so if, like many in the greater Lake George area you are visiting for a portion of the summer, it's an excellent option which other gyms in the area do not offer. The "Anytime" part of anytime fitness is only for full members with a key card - the day pass is only when the gym is staffed (Tues-Th 11a-7p, Fri-Sat 8a-4p right now), which is understandable. I didn't inquire as to the membership rates for obvious reasons, but if you are up here full time and the rates are competitive, I'd strongly recommend it - the gym is incredibly clean, with excellent equipment - much newer, nicer equipment than most of the fancy, presumably more expensive NYC gyms I've been to, in fact. The staff is friendly and its one of the few gyms I've been to where they actually play quality music, so much so that I wouldn't have left without working out had I forgot my iPod (which I *might* have done before at other gyms). My one quibble would be that there isn't really a formal locker room area, just a couple of large, clean bathrooms with one shower. I realize this is a bit of an outgrowth of location, and that most people in non-city gyms just drive here and leave the grooming for home, but I still appreciate having the option to comfortably shower/change and go somewhere directly from the gym, which I don't think I'd want to do here. Would also worry about a wait for a bathroom/locker at more crowded times of day. But whether you're looking for an easy no-frills temp. vacation gym option or for a new permanent gym upstate, I think the quality of this place makes it well worth it.

The Safari was good but the workers kept driving the animals away. The enclosures were... SMALL to say the least. The poor monkeys, no enrichment, small enclosures, the one had a wound on its tail. It took us probably 25 mins to get through the walking part. The little pigs had no water and when I asked the lady, she said they probably drank it all from this morning, well then give them more. Very disappointed.
