We were looking for a steakhouse as my husband's been working in the area and there's not too many of them around, but we found this place in Brush. And yeah you walk in and it looks like an old bar John Wayne stuff all over dark but it was really cool. It's a daughter with father run business and the daughter does everything- she does all the cooking, the waitressing, the prepping, cleaning ,everything! The dad helps with the socializing and cleaning bringing drinks over. Bless his heart. Never met anybody like that in the Restaurant business. we had a long talks with both of them and nice folks, but I think they are getting a little tired. My husband had prime rib and I had barbecue ribs. They were both excellent with rolls. Green beans were just regular green beans and we had potatoes. thank you for your hospitality and if we're ever back again in your area, and you are still around, we will pop in and get some more grub. Traveling this weekend and I heard that Brush, CO had a great steak house. Sure enough, just a couple miles off of the 76 Business route I could a restaurant off on the left of the road. At first I didn't think it was open. Only one vehicle in the parking lot. I peered in through the door and didn't really see anyone. I went back outside to take some photos of the business and an older man came partially out the door and told me they were open. I finished outside and in I went. The interior was themed with John Wayne and I only saw about 8 tables. The lights are very low and the atmosphere was quiet. The gentleman brought me a water and soon after a waitress appeared. I had fried sliced dill pickles for an appetizers. YUM I ordered from The Littleton Pilgrim section. I ordered the 4oz Top Sirloin Dinner extremely well done. My sides were steak fries and fresh green beans and home made rolls. My steak was cooked perfect for me and the fries and green beans were so fresh. The rolls were a little over done but very flavorable. A little pricy for dinner but great food and service. $$$$ The interior is vintage dated with, hard to see with just old low lights hanging. Heavily decorated with John Wayne items and old jukebox off to the side of the bar. Great place to reminisce and enjoy a nice meal! read more

What a nice gem of a restaurant. A true father / daughter restaurant. The small staff serves up big taste in this John Wayne themed steakhouse. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the dinner rolls almost melted in our mouths. We will definitely be back. read more

True Grit is in an older building, they have booths, tables, and a bar where they do serve liquor. My husband and I both got the chicken fried steaks. They were not home making, straight out of the box. Thick fries and green beans, house salad. The ranch dressing was good. The food was good, and we left full. The bill around $24.00. If you like to john wayne you'd love this place. However, they only have 2 people working at the moment. And it takes a while to get your food at. It was very nice and the atmosphere was very nice. However, it's just, you have to be patient. read more

Driving from South Dakota to C.A, 1800 miles needed something more than beef jerky, sunflower seeds and Mt. Dew. Just so happened my phone had service at just the right timing. Called prior cause it was Friday and I figured football + Friday + small town, they're closed. The owner answered said come on in, well wait for you..... Drove through town and sure enough the town was at the game. Inside to my surprise it was completely decorated in John Wayne from the front door to the bathrooms, very cool. The owner was at the bar listening to the game but quickly sat us down, waitress recommended the sirloin, ordered it medium rare, delicious... Somehow, if it makes any sense, they managed to grill the outside, Med. rare the 2nd layer and the very middle was rare, don't think I've ever had it that way, but it was delicious, maybe a fluke but delicious all the same. Baked potato was also right on the money, could have used some bacon bits. Salad was just below olive garden status. Well worth getting off and enjoying a steak, they also had rocky mountain oysters, but my driving partner didn't want to try them. It was ok. Ordered the steak medium and it was grey all the way through, which wasn't a huge deal, but it just didn't have much flavor. Salad was sparse but passable and the baked potato was decent. All in all it was fine, but not anything amazing or great. read more

This place is great! The owners are so friendly and the restaurant is so unique. I can honestly say I've never seen a restaurant that is john Wayne themed before! The steak is made perfectly and the salmon melts in your mouth. I'd definitely recommend baked potatoes over mashed but everything here is good! read more

This is the best STEAK HOUSE with the John Wayne atmosphere! No matter when we have been here, during snow, rain, late evening, early dinner, no matter when..........We have not had any problem with any of the food, the personnel or cleanliness. They will even change items around on the menu to what you want. I would suggest this STEAK HOUSE to any one that is a beef eater. The steak has an excellent flavor. The salads were iceberg lettuce, a few shredded carrots and dressing. Meal 1 - got the Alamo, cooked perfect (med) and was tasty. Meal 2 - ordered Lil sis. Ordered med. Received done, wife did not enjoy. Meal 3 - breaded chicken breast. Texture was like it just came out of the freezer. Think the owner was both the cook and server, hence service was very slow.
