My first job ever was in a Hallmark store. I loved working there. My first experience at this store was pleasant. The second and third, not so much.
Firstly, their product selection is really good. It's a clean shop with cute gifts. However, their customer service needs some work.
I brought something back that only a few days after my purchase had gone on sale. I took my item back to either return and re-purchase, or to just get the difference credited back. I was granted the refund/credit on my purchase. Originally, the lady at the counter didn't know how to credit the money back and looked to another lady (i'm assuming it was the manager) for approval. The manager begrudgingly agreed and said "just give her the money". The attitude was a little too sassy for me, but I got what I wanted and left.
The third time I came back to the store was to return an ornament that had broken when we took it out of the box. No problem :)
As we were leaving the store my little four-year-old son knocked over a small snow globe and it broke on the floor. My son was upset and cried and said he was very sorry. We explained to him that when you break things you have to pay for them, and that we needed to go to the counter to pay for our mistake. The lady working wasn't too happy about cleaning up after our mess and she made us pay full price for the 8.99 snow globe. I guess I was expecting some kindness or some sympathy but we really didn't get that - it was purely business.
My son learned a lesson that day, and so did I. I'm not sure if I'll be back to the store. read more
