The cigarette smoke often drifts into the parking lot and around customers' vehicles, creating an unpleasant experience for families, children, and non-smokers. As a grocery store and food establishment, the customer experience should be welcoming and comfortable for everyone. A designated smoking area away from the entrance, kitchen, and customer parking spaces would greatly improve the environment. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, as this issue has been ongoing for quite some time and affects otherwise loyal customers.

I like getting hot food to go from the small hot food display case by the cash register. There aren't a lot of options, usually fried snacks like samosa, potato fritters, and paneer pakora. The store also sells lots of Indian desserts and sweets that can be found by the cash register or in the back of the store in the freezers. The owner is friendly. Bring cash because there is a discount if you pay in cash instead of plastic.

We then discovered that we actually did need something and found Brown Basmati Rice at a reasonable price, so we bought one. And the lady who rang us up couldn't have been nicer. It's nestled in the corner of the plaza and much of the space can only be viewed by walking over. It's very likely you could miss it while driving but FYI it's adjacent to the car wash, in the plaza where the Roch. Hills Post Office and the plaza itself is literally right across from the Chipotle adjacent to Barclay Circle. They claim to be one of the largest if not the largest Indian grocery store in the state. I'm not sure about rankings but it definitely is a large space that I didn't explore entirely my first time there. In many regards, it's a typical Ethnic foods grocery store and a typical Indian one at that. Some goods are especially cheap. In this case, I'm talking about 'Mothers' Indian masala mixes which basically do all the spice work for you whether you're Indian and just don't have the time to make the masala for Chicken Tikka Masala or whether you're not South Asian, you're intrigued by the exotic grocery store, and you're inclined to try new things and get an inkling of other cultures. $1.49 per mix and they're better than Shan and other brands in that those you would have to further experiment with proportions but with Mother, literally follow the directions and you won't have to do any other extra work. The masala is in the form of a paste so if you were having doubts, it's not a powder. Apart from my experience, there's nothing too much out of ordinary esp if you're Indian, Pakistani, or any other South Asian. Mostly Indian imported snacks and other products. You have a small section where they have fresh savory snacks like Samosas and Chaat and desserts like Jalebi and Kaju Katli. There are fresh vegetables, some tailored for Indian cuisine and others generally like any other American grocery store. I'm not sure but there's also most likely a Bollywood movie playing on a small screen tv and Bollywood/South Indian/North Indian movies for rental or purchase as well. Whatever your background is, it's worth checking a place like this especially if the store has something you desire that can't be found elsewhere!

As an added bonus I think that Sahara is a wonderful place for anyone to shop. Having lived in another country and frequenting ethnic grocers, I am comfortable with the fact that they always feel different from what Americans are used to. It is always clean, and when something is spilled, it is immediate cleaned. Poor reviews are going to come from people who expect this to be Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, which it is not. I have never experienced a manager standing in the checkout area. Not even once, and I've been shopping here for about 15 years.
