Dry handshake

A great little neighborhood bar with really amazing crack cocktails, and a chill, laidback vibe. Navy Yard is a little commercial for my personal taste, but it's close to my office, and convenient when I'm in town for work. Trouble Bird was the answer to my prayers on a recent trip, where I was looking to have high quality drinks and a laid-back NON-commercial vibe with my team. We liked it so much, we came twice in one week, and I was impressed at their ability to handle and be comfortable for a large group in a space that can feel intimate. The lighting is nice and moody, the menu available via QR code, and the WiFi free and listed with password for patrons to use. We had excellent service both times, by the two folks working each night for a groups of 6-8 each time. There was something for everyone from the nondrinkers to the beer enthusiasts, to cocktail aficionados like myself. There's an amazing happy hour deal, with discounts on drinks all Monday and reduced prices for a couple of hours on other weekdays; it almost felt criminal how generous the happy hour was when I've gotten used to paying $20 for a mediocre cocktail at other nearby establishments. And the cocktails here are really very good, probably the best in the area, except for their immediate next door neighbor. The group favorite cocktail was the Midori sour which was incredibly well balanced and refreshing, and the surprising crowd pleaser was the Hamilton Dry Float, which came in a creepy tiki mug presentation that we really loved. We had a couple of the bar bites - the spiced peanuts were well loved across the group but my person favorite food item was the blistered shishitos, which came with a great chipotle aioli. The bathrooms are extremely clean and overall this was a bar favorite for the group for our week of going out and socializing together. Overall this is a gem of a neighborhood hangout with really excellent cocktails and service! Will absolutely come here next time I'm in town!

I have been to this place quite a bit as a new resident in Navy Yard. I can say without a doubt that Trouble Bird is the best cocktail bar in the DC area. Starting with the service, every employee is inviting and super knowledgeable on the menu. Justin and Drew always take care of me and my girlfriend when we come visit. My personal favorite drinks are the Midori Sour, Toki Highball, White Russian, and the Mandarin Gimlet. Each drink is prepared to perfection with a great flavor profile. Also, order the crunch wrap for food and you won't be disappointed! (keep in mind it isn't available on Sunday and Mondays). If you're a first timer, highly recommend going during the happy hour from 5:00-6:30 Mondays-Fridays. It's a small spot but can get really packed on the weekend.

Loved our experience here, the frozen strawberry margarita and Pinacolada were super yummy, and the drinks were top notch quality. Bartenders were so attentive, friendly, knowledgeable and TALENTED. I gave them a vague recipe of this unique drink I had at a Michelin starred modern French restaurant in CA, and they recreated the most delicious and perfect drink for me. I was blown away. Their ice cubes were so clear it was mesmerizing. You know they care when every detail is perfect and their shelves are filled with good stuff, some hard to find and rare to see. I'm so grateful that they even shared the recipe with me and showed me what bottles they used. I thought I was never going to have my dream drink again....until now! They have happy hour ALL DAY Monday. Highly recommend if you can make it there. You might even make some new duckling friends!

Found this spot on Google. You could walk here from the Navy Yard - business side exit . We found street parking, but it's also about a block away from the Navy Yard waterfront parking Nice cocktails with limited food menu

I had the opportunity to pop in to Trouble Bird after attending an event in the Navy Yard. Trouble Bird is a first-come first-serve late night bar with curated cocktails, canned/bottled beers & wine by the glass. Also offered is a creative selection of snacks & small plates. As soon as I walked into Trouble Bird I knew that I wanted to stay! The space is small but didn't feel cramped & the ambiance is cozy with low lighting that makes the experience feel exclusive. I was promptly greeted by a server (who is actually one of the owners!) & told that I could sit wherever I liked. I chose a center booth opposite the highchairs at the bar. The venue is suitable for date night and/or meeting up with friends & additional table seating is available outside. Happy Hour is all day on Monday & from 5-6:30 pm Tuesday - Friday. I ordered the Just Peachy Boilermaker & a chip and dip hotdog. I wouldn't order the drink again (although it came with a green tea shot that was delicious) but I would definitely devour another one of Trouble Birds chip & dip hotdogs. I'm not exaggerating when I say I devoured it - not until I was done did I realize I hadn't snapped a photo. It was that good! The onion jam really shined on what otherwise could be such a simple & basic small plate. Overall, I enjoyed my visit to Trouble Bird and would recommend it! I plan on returning the next time I am nearby!

the truffle grilled cheese was so delish! It's a cute little spot with friendly workers. i did feel it was slightly overpriced for what you get here but the grilled cheese was probably one of the best I've had.

trouble bird is a cocktail bar but please please do not sleep on their hot dogs...my group all ordered kimchi hot dogs and no regrets across the board their kimchi hot dog was a 10/10. I don't give 10 to just anything so you know this was one of the best glizzies ive ever had IN MY LIFEEEEE! i swear it as a glizzy gobbler this was delicious. the sausage itself was juicy meaty and the kimchi was actually such a good pairing. the tang/sour and spice was the perfect complement to the dog. the lettuce underneath the dog caught all the sauce (love some thoughtful construction) and i topped mine with those chips on the side for a lil CRUNCH. oh and i couldnt forget the chili crunch on top to add that extra oomph! im still thinking about this hot dog weeks later and getting hungry thinking about it. i would MARRY this glizzy if i could i will DEFINITELY be returning. only question is when i hope soo

Came to trouble bird for their Halloween pop-up and had a fun time! The decorations are really on point and complete with fun colorful lighting. I had the silent scream which was delightful punch like drink with coconut, passionfruit, and Thai basil. They have a well curated cocktail menu with a lot of unique curated ingredients. It would be helpful to have more explanation on the menu on tasting notes since some of the ingredients are obscure. Staff were super attentive and friendly and helpful in explaining the menu and making recommendations. Definitely check out their Halloween pop-up for a fun cocktail experience. Limited seating but a fair amount of standing room.

Colada and sazerac @davideatsdc

Cool spot, wonderful drinks. Everything is well balanced, properly diluted and served at the right temp. Only tried a few so far but will return for more! Loved the amaretto sour, morning glory colada, and bay leaf daquiri. wish the "everything" of the everything bagel sazerac was a little more prominent but understandable given it's a sazerac - nice subtle nutty notes.

Fun time visiting the Halloween theme "The Black Lagoon." Miraculously the weather was gorgeous and we sat on the patio. The place is very small. The best drink was the Siren's Song, which also came in the coolest tiki mug.

Kind of on the tail end of all the hype of the waterfront Navy Yard crowd, this place just popped up a couple of months ago. I had finished up an event and just wasn't quite ready to go home yet. I saw this place about a week ago and said I would try it out if the opportunity presented itself... and so it did. As I walked up to the door, it looked so dark inside, I wasn't sure if it was open! But it turns out it was, and it's just one of those places! It has that dark intimate vibe that I've seen at some speakeasies, though it is not one itself. The music was energetic, and the bar was seemingly full, so I opted to stand at one of the high tables right behind it. Someone came over and broke down the drinks for me, mentioning some of his favorites along the way. The breakfast cocktails, especially the Sawada Punch and Flapjack Old Fashioned, really stood out for me. The punch had ingredients such as rum, espresso, matcha, vanilla-miso, and... cocoa puff whey?! The OF had bourbon, mezcal, brown butter and maple! Given the time of night, the espresso wasn't ideal (I don't like coffee, and I didn't want it to keep me awake), so I went with the Old Fashioned. It was a delightful drink that I sipped slow. The sweet and smoky combination was quite something! While I was drinking, a seat opened up at the bar, so I moved to it. I got to really take in the vibes. The music was energetic, yet the vibe was still super chill. I couldn't help but notice chalk on the bar... and I looked around and didn't see a chalkboard. So I asked the bartender what the chalk was for... and it so happens the chalkboard was right under my nose. The bar counter... IS the chalkboard! What?!?! That was the coolest thing ever, so yes, I got to drawing. All this to say, I will definitely return. They also have beers, wines and light bites. I read that the place definitely had the vibe, but being where it is, it's hard to believe! It is new, so I wonder if it'll stay that way? Either way, I gotta bring a date before it's too late!!

Super quaint spot with an awesome vibe. Definitely sit at the bar for a cozy experience. The hot dogs are the best around! We could also craft your own cocktail.

We were initially going to go to the karaoke bar next door but when we walked inside, it was wayyyy too loud and obnoxious so we were like perfect let's go across the street! We walk into the ramen spot and ask where the speakeasy is and the guy led us to the back and showed us to some stairs to go down. Seriously, how COOL is this place??? The neon lights were so fun! We walked into the bar and immediately loved it! Good amount of bar seating plus some comfy couches and whatnot. There was music but it wasn't too obnoxious, we were still able to have conversations - it was surprisingly chill and exactly what we were looking for. Chatted to the bartender who made some fancy shots for us, had a few drinks. It was not busy at all on a Sat night which was nice. It is very dark inside even with the neon lights so it does make it hard to read the menus (had to use flashlights on our phone). But super fun spot, fun drinks, not too expensive, and a neat and chill experience! It was an excellent find for us for sure!

Within minutes the place was packed, so although we were able to get a seat I'd still recommend making a reservation since the space fills up quickly. Initially I didn't realize this was a gin-focused bar, but now I'm hooked ( I told the bartenders about my usual preferences and they were able to make great recommendations). The drinks were incredibly well crafted and full of unique flavor. I started with one of their signature drinks but then asked for a bartender's choice based on what I typically enjoy and they absolutely nailed it. The space has a stylish speakeasy vibe that feels both elevated and inviting. You ring a bell to be let in, which makes the whole experience feel a little more special. Inside, it's moody and romantic with plush seating, gorgeous lighting, and a warm ambiance that's perfect for date night or just catching up with friends. If you're looking for a spot for cocktails and dinner, this is a fun option to add to your list. The Halloween cocktail menu features two creative drinks: The Devil's Alibi, made with smoky mezcal, strawberry, warm falernum spice, and bittersweet dark chocolate notes, and The Witch's Cauldron, a jet-black gin cocktail with floral lavender, bright lemon, and a hint of absinthe. Both have a fun, spooky-season feel, and The Witch's Cauldron is especially eye-catching. For food, we tried the coffee-rubbed lamb lollipops, Maryland crab dip, East and West Coast oysters, Wagyu steak frites, spicy rigatoni, and cider-glazed pork chop. We also sampled two of their new fall cocktails: Honey I'm Home, featuring gin, vanilla honey, lemon, and lavender bitters, and Peach Don't Kill My Vibe, made with Hennessy VS, peach schnapps, lemon, and simple syrup. To finish, we had the Espresso No Depresso and a S'mores Skillet Cookie for dessert. If you enjoy seasonal cocktails and having plenty of food options to explore, Lobby Bar is worth checking out. The Halloween cocktails are only available this week, so be sure to ask about their availability if you're planning a visit.
