Banana breakfast flatbread
Joanna M.

Had a good first time experience on a week day when there was no on inside. But today on a Saturday, they were too busy to help me or take my order. The place had several people inside waiting for their smoothies & eating, but I was the only one at the counter waiting to order. Three people were busy working making smoothies & food, but not one acknowledged me, looked at me or seem to even see me. So after 5 minutes of standing their, my kids getting antsy, we walked out.

Chia banana Boost & Bahama Mama

This location was new for me. Same flavor so it is still a great smoothie place!! Always get the Chia Banana Boost! YUM!! So I would have given 5 stars but.... The guy making the smoothie never put the mask on his face. Only on the chin while making smoothies which was a bit disappointment. We do still have to be careful with covid. Especially they have a sign on the door to wear a mask.

Kale and apple slaw lacking freshness and quality!

Love this place. Everything I ever order is always so good but the last couple of times their kale and apple slaw has been lacking quality and freshness.

Supergreen caesar wrap. Sunrise sunset classic smoothie.

I am so glad Tropical Smoothie is here in DFW. This is so reminiscent of my time living in Florida for me. I saw a location near the Colony and when searching exactly where it was located, I found one even closer to home in Frisco! They have a variety of sandwiches, wraps and even have flatbreads. I ordered the super green caesar wrap and it was pretty good. Chicken with romaine, kale & spinach blend, shredded parmesan, tomatoes, parmesan crisps & caesar dressing. I'll say that I didn't tasted anything that would tell me parmesan crisps were in it but did taste the cheese. It comes with a side and there are a few options like chips, fresh fruit and kale and apple salad. I also ordered a sunrise sunset smoothie as this was really why I wanted to come here and it was amazing and exactly how I remembered it. I read the other reviews before mine and think this is worth a shot. If I were served dressing that tasted sour or a soggy sandwich, I would give it back so they had a chance to correct it. I went for lunch on a Friday and they weren't very busy but service was very slow. I'll be keeping this in mind if I were in a hurry, I'd pick somewhere else.

My first time trying their food and smoothies. Loving them all. So refreshing and truly tropical. Great for the Summer.

We got the mortadella burrata pistachio sandwich, morning bun, glazed croix, everything croix and a chocolate chip cookie. Everyone was super welcoming and helpful and sweet. It's a smaller place with like 4 tables but we ate our sandwich and coffees here and had the rest of the order for later to try at home. But it's a good grab and go or order ahead. They also sell baguettes and sour doughs loafs. *Sandwich: it was better than the one we had in Italy. It was soo delicate but flavorful *morning bun: flaky, cinnamon and sugar.. there's areas of it that are caramelized and has a nice chewiness to it. Worth it. * everything Croix: if you like everything bagel seasoning you'll love. I'd choose the is over a bagel. *pastrami croix: yum! It's a fun take on a pastrami sandwich. I really liked this, I love pastrami and sauerkraut so it was right up my alley *glazed croix: I loved this! My husband thought it was too sweet for his liking but it's like a cronut but better. The croissant is still super buttery and flaky. I will say, you can't eat it pretty lol it's a messy one but I love it * chocolate chip cookie: it was good, I am a thinner cookie person but overall it was good!

The interior isn't big but there are 4 small tables for seating and a bench for waiting. They have sweet and savory morning baked goods - croissants "croix", daily made sourdough flavors, sandwiches, and coffee. The service was great - the cashier was super helpful and gave good honest recommendations. I got a sandwich (mortadella, burrata, pistachio), 3 croix's (strawberry and cream, everything, and pistachio), and a black cold brew. Food came out in about 10 mins (about the time it took to write this review and take a couple pics). Food was really good - bread was super crunchy and everything was very flavorful. Not gonna go in detail. Try it yourself. I promise it's worth waking up at 7am and driving out here! Note - while I didn't get any, I did notice that the sourdough is premade and you get it instantly.

I could not pass up the opportunity to try a Matzo Ball! I have heard about them, but have never actually seen one in the wild. A bowl of Hodgepodge soup for me, with a big surprise. It came with a Kreplach. Livin' on the wild side now. Expanding my culinary horizons. With the soup I ordered one of my favorites, a Lox Bagel. I darn sure know what those are. I have eaten a basket full of those things in my life time. My wife went with the Ruben and potato salad. The Hodgepodge is a hearty bowl of chicken noodle. With a filling, tennis ball sized pastry, the Matzo ball. Plain in taste, surprisingly light in texture. Hiding behind that, the Kreplach. I like those little dumplings. Basically, the equivalent of a Chinese pot sticker. This soup would be good to treat a cold. The Lox Bagel was disappointing, especially for the price. Actually, everything on the menu seemed a little pricey. The Ruben was a good honest portion of beef, packed between two slices of delicious toasted rye. My wife liked it. The potato salad, not so much. Commenting that it was bland in comparison to her preference of potato salad. Order at the counter, your food is delivered. The service was slow, even though the restaurant only had a few diners. Clean bright dining area. I can only assume that the décor duplicates a New York Deli.

This time we had the Beef Stroganoff with a cup of Split Pea Soup and the Deli News Breakfast Feast with sunny-side-up eggs, Challah French Toast, and hash browns. The Beef Stroganoff was hearty and comforting, exactly the kind of meal you want when you are craving something substantial. The split pea soup made a great complement to it. The Breakfast Feast continues to be a favorite, and the Challah French Toast is especially good, thick, satisfying, and a nice change from ordinary French toast. Deli News is one of those places where you can come hungry, sit down, and enjoy familiar comfort food without needing anything fancy. Breakfast or lunch, there is plenty on the menu to keep giving us reasons to come back.

Placing a to-go order on their website was really easy and was ready, when they said it would, right when I walked in. I was anxious to open up and devour my sandwich. The bread was soft and looked good, the sandwich tasted good, but that's where it ended. At first glance I thought they'd forgotten to put turkey on my sandwich. I had to open it up and really look to see two very thin slices of turkey were indeed there - see the photos. They were the thinnest slices I've seen on a sandwich and I barely tasted them. This was a bait and switch for sure. The images show a hearty portion of meat, but in reality the sandwiches are all bread. The cookies was soft and tasted fine. Nothing special. I will not be back, but glad I tried something new

Mike, the owner, greeted us right away and made us feel genuinely welcome. When he found out we wanted to watch a specific college football game, he immediately turned it on for us. That level of hospitality is hard to find these days. As an added bonus, Mike treated us to a complimentary portion of the Brioche Banana Foster French Toast, and it was absolutely outstanding. The brioche was perfectly prepared, and the banana foster topping took it to another level. It was easily one of the best brunch items I've had in a long time. For our main meal, my son and I both ordered the Chicken and Waffles from the brunch menu. It was a perfect 10 out of 10. The chicken was light, crispy, and flaky without being heavy, and it sat atop a perfectly cooked waffle. Every bite was delicious. I originally planned on ordering an iced tea, but our waitress was so friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable that she convinced me to try a Bloody Mary instead. I'm glad she did because it was excellent and paired perfectly with brunch. What really stood out wasn't just the amazing food and drinks, but the overall atmosphere and service. Everyone made us feel welcome, and the attention to detail was exceptional. Honestly, I don't understand why this place isn't more crowded. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will absolutely be back again. If you're looking for great food, outstanding service, and a welcoming atmosphere, Local Open is definitely worth a visit.
