I really like the options at Tropical Smoothie and I am very thankful that they are so helpful with allergies. They use sanitized blenders and let you make substitutions. I went to this location at 9:30am with my girlfriend to get a smoothie. The front door was open for service and when we got to the counter the employee said the store doesn't open until 10am. I've given this place many many tries because my kids love smoothies but today was the last straw. Every time the employees are so rude. Today they ignored a long line of people and finally after waiting a long time I asked if they are taking orders and with a terrible attitude told "not now." Somaybe tell the long line something instead of ignoring everyone. They are always the most unhappy looking employees and they take it out on the customers. Bahama Mama had massive chunks of ice and was not well blended and the Mango Magic had no turbinado in it and was also icy as well. As someone who worked at another Tropical Smoothie in the past, I was very disappointed at the quality of this one. :( read more

I always loved their smoothies, then they came out w/the island green last year and I fell in love! But my favorite seasonal one is cucumber mojito. And the best part is, you can customize any smoothie to your liking. Plus their food is actually really good. My favorite is the Baja chicken flatbread. read more

Two years ago I went into this same store and the service was not very good so I didn't come back for quite a while. Earlier this year I stopped in and noticed the "Under new ownership" sign and I figured I would give them another chance. Many of the same people were there, but I did noticed that the service was a bit better. I then stopped back in a few weeks later and noticed a whole new group of employees who were very pleasant, friendly, and seemed to enjoy being there. This location is right near my office so it's very convenient for me. I've been coming there regularly for the past two months and have really enjoyed the changes that they have made since my first visit two years ago. The food is quite good, not too expensive, and the service is better than most places in Charlottesville. I'm glad to see that they made the necessary changes as I really enjoy going into the restaurant for lunch and dinner. Try the chocolate chip cookies if you get a sandwich as they're really amazing. read more

My daughter and I stopped in for a couple of smoothie. Service seemed to be fine, until I tasted the Mango Magic smoothie. It tasted like crushed ice with a hint of maybe mango. I say maybe mango to illustrate how tasteless it was. I took it back and told them it tasted watered down. I was a fan of TSC back in Orlando, but for some reason, never visited this one (okay, I stepped in once and it was too empty so I left, so that didn't really count). Hubs and I stopped in last week after work bc I hate shopping at Kroger on an empty stomach. For $7, we tried the half sandwich and smoothie combo - I think this is a pretty good value considering the quality of the meal. Definitely a solid choice for this shopping center. read more

Smoothies as big as my head with as much flavor. I had the turkey guacamole sandwich on wheat with a coffee based smoothie and my wife had the Thai Chicken wrap with a tropical fruit smoothie. Sandwich and wrap were really good. Service was good, you order and they bring it to your table, and only reason I didn't give five stars is because the computer system was acting wonky so we had to wait while they fixed it to order. They probably need a manual backup to take orders so they don't have to make people wait, but those kind of things happen. I will most definitely eat here again. read more

I noticed some of the older reviews knocked this place for bad service some years back, I can assure you that has changed. Always friendly staff, the atmosphere is always chill. I use the app to make and order and I couldnt use a coupon. I ordered ahead of time for curbside pickup. Not one employee came out. I called and no answer. I couldnt walk in because I didnt have a mask and have a fractured foot. I wont be coming back and will dispute the charges read more

Overall, I would describe my experience as mediocre. The food is predictable and consistent and for the most part tastes decent. However the service is often slow. Recently, I went in with a coupon, and they were deceitful in honoring it. They gave me the BOGO as indicated on the coupon at the counter, but charged me full price for the smoothie (instead of giving me the posted discount for ordering a smoothie along with some food), and did not give me the chips that accompany either sandwich. I initially assumed this was an oversight, but when I asked, they denied me the chips that are supposed to come with my meal (including the sandwich that I paid full price for). This is shady business practice in my opinion. I didn't ask them to print coupons, they chose to do that to bring me into the store, and when the coupon did just that, they overcharged me and did not provide the complete meal. Originally we went out to find Smoothie King, but we found something better- Tropical Smoothie! The service was incredibly quick and the staff were friendly and made great recommendations. Awful service. when we got our smoothies the lady that was serving us called our names and we said that it was ours but she had in ear buds so said it again and when we said it was ours for the second time she gave it to us and rolled her eyes and gave us a dirty look. The service used to be so good here but it has severely diminished. I went to get a smoothie this morning and neither employee acknowledged me for at least 10 minutes. The employee with the goatee was moving so slowly that I'm surprised he was moving at all. The red headed employee was rushing around but should have started taking orders much sooner. Then, when one of the employees finally took my order, he told me it would be either 10 or 5 more minutes. This is rush hour, I'm on my way to work, and I got there with more than enough time where I should have been served much sooner OR I should have been told when I first got there that it would be a 20 minute wait. I was then unable to get a smoothie nor unable to go anywhere else because the Tropical Smoothie Cafe employees didn't think to notify their customers of the long wait. I used to be a loyal customer here but now I don't want to go any longer. Before anyone suggests ordering on the app ahead of time, you need to understand that the app doesn't include the grumpy morning discount, which then makes the smoothie cost twice as much as ordering from the store. read more

The food was fine. I've been to Tropical Smoothies in other cities, so I knew what I was getting. However, the service was terrible. There was a woman standing in front of me in line when I came in. A few minutes later no one had even said they'd be with her yet and she walked out. I waited several more minutes after the promise that someone would be "right with me". Once someone finally came to the register and took my order, he was awkward and didn't really help me when I needed to choose a side. I waited a few more minutes, got my food, and the guy who gave me my order was very strange and said "you better enjoy this, I made it with my own two hands" and held on to my food for a strange amount of time. I was craving a smoothie today and had not been to Tropical Smoothie in a while, so I decided to venture to the one on Barracks Road. I walked in - and was not GREETED. I went up to the cash register and waited as the cashier proceeded to gossip with his co workers regarding hours being cut at another store. Ever heard of customer service? I almost walked out. I stared at him as he continued to gossip and ignore me. I ordered a small smoothie - they are of huge sizes. A small was quite adequate and sustained me for awhile. There was only one person in front of me and I literally waited 20 minutes just to order my smoothie. I then waited another 15 minutes to receive my smoothie. The man at the counter who took my order was very rude and the smoothies were very watered down compared to smoothies I have gotten at other Tropical Smoothie locations. Ask yourself if it's worth waiting 10 minutes for every person ahead of you in line. And that's just for ordering. Then expect to wait another 10 minutes for your smoothie. I've seen the man at the counter about 5 times and every single time he has this real arrogant and irritated attitude. I'm not expecting a RUDE man after waiting 30 minutes for a smoothie!
