Overall Taste and Cost This place was refreshing. It was nice to find a smoothie spot that offers 100% fresh organic fruits and vegetables for smoothies and juices. This place is also plant-based. I ordered the CB&J Smoothie Bowl; which is made with strawberries, cashew butter, banana, dates, and house cashew milk topped with strawberry, banana, and in house made granola! Location & Aesthetic The location of this place was on a busy street, and hard to find. The parking lot had plenty of parking spaces, however it was extremely full! The exterior and interior of the building was overall nice. They had a nice seating area on the outside of the building. I would definitely recommend this place. Recommended

The smoothies are really good, but their smoothie bowls get watery really fast. My favorites are the cb&j and the green smoothie. Cute sit down area outside but not much inside. Quick service. Would com back again

Favorite place in Cville for a smoothie bowl :). The vegan chilli is also really good !

One of my friends always raves about TJB, so I had to try it out for myself. And I will agree all of her praise is well deserved. I ordered the super smoothie bowl, which had blueberries, dragonfruit, goji berries, dates, bananas, and almond milk. It was super delicious and surprisingly filling. If I had one criticism, I wish the smoothie portion was thicker, especially for the bowl option.

Impeccable atmosphere and service, combined with delicious and tasty options. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Come, and see this at your own amazing risk.

I stopped by this location a few times while in Charlottesville for work during the summer of 2019. I only tried their smoothie bowls (namely the Super, the CBJ, and the Coco Verde) as well as 1 juice, but really liked everything I had and would gladly return if I'm ever in the area again. The staff are friendly and efficient. The first time I came in, they were happy to explain that I could get the smoothies either as a smoothie or as a smoothie bowl. I also never had to wait more than a few minutes for my food to come out. The smoothie bowls were a good size and had a generous amount of toppings, as well as granola at the bottom. I found this unusual at first since the other smoothie bowl places I've been to only have toppings, but now I think it's pretty practical so you don't have to do as much mixing. The first time I stopped by I also got a juice. The juices are pretty expensive at $10 a bottle--I imagine this is because they're supposed to be cleanses and replace meals. If that's your thing, they have a good variety. But if you're looking for a run-of-the-mill beverage, their juices are pretty expensive for that. You do get $0.50 back if you rinse out and return the glass bottle though. I really appreciated how environmentally conscious this place was; the disposable bowls are compostable, as is all their waste. They actually ask that you not bring in outside waste since it might not be compostable. They provide glass bottles for the self-service complimentary water as well. There's free wifi, with the password prominently displayed, and I found it to be pretty reliable when I brought my laptop. The unisex bathroom was clean and well-maintained. Overall, I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area and want a smoothie bowl! They also have savory vegan options.

    Coco verde bowl - yum!

Delicious! I got the Coco Verde bowl and my husband got the CB&J. I opted for pineapple over mango as the base and he chose to blend some spinach into his bowl. Both were tasty, though I personally thought mine was better. I wasn't a fan of the granola they put on top because it was mixed with simple syrup and I prefer a crunchy rather than chewy texture. It was also pretty darn expensive. They have a sign explaining their costs, but at the end of the day, a bowl that costs around $13 is definitely on the pricey side.

    Super Acai Bowl

Love TJL! I always end up ordering the super acai bowl, but would also recommend the monster bowl because both are bases that don't rely heavily on seasonal fruits. Also as a tip, if you order ahead make sure to go up and ask for your order because they just hold on to it until you ask for it.

Great smoothies! I got the Blaze and it was the perfect amount of Spicy! Staff was friendly. Fairly quick service even though it was busy!

An amazing place for smoothies, granola, and pressed juices. Everyone who works here is kind and cares about each person who comes through. They clearly care about what they do and it shows in their products. I have tried four smoothies and each one is delicious. I would recommend Tropic Energy. It is my favorite and it's very filling. Overall this is one of my favorite places in Charlottesville. The only downside for me is that I have to drive across town to get it. But it doesn't stop me.

I have been going to TJL since it opened and it is hands down the BEST juice i've ever had. (trust me I have lived all over the country in Juicing Hot Spot cities). Their nut milks are far superb & I could live off of their chili for life. The atmosphere is super friendly and inclusive and I love that they maintain their integrity to organic ingredients, zero waste, fully vegan menu, and super fair pricing!! Thank you to everyone making The Juice Laundry as awesome as it is for years!!!

Great spot. Service was quick and effective. The juice was great! We also really enjoyed one of the açaí bowls. TIP: you can definitely get away with splitting one of the bowls... the portions are huge.

Ordered a cucumber chamomile gin and tonic, which left something to be desired. We started with the blackberry salad which on the menu said it also included avocado but there was none on the salad-despite this the salad was great. Our mains were good but not great. The biggest issue I found here was despite our server being very nice while ordering she NEVER checked in on us after anything arrived, never refilled waters either. So although she was nice the service was not good as there were times we wanted to order something else and one of the entrees didn't arrive as it was ordered but our server never checked in. All things considered I think I would only come here to grab a salad or appetizer.

We had 5:30pm reservations and were seated immediately. The host was warm, acknowledged the occasion, and honored my request for a quieter table by placing us in a bay-window nook. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. The space echoed so badly we could barely hear each other, and the setting sun combined with the AC being accidentally turned off made the area feel like a sauna. Our water glasses were filled within minutes, so we thought service would be smooth. Instead, we sat for another 15 minutes before anyone greeted us--while a table seated after us was helped promptly and served at a noticeably faster pace. I understand large parties require attention (there was a group of 10-12 nearby), but as a former server myself, I've never allowed smaller tables to feel forgotten. When our server, Lucian (sp?), finally arrived, we immediately placed drink and appetizer orders because we were already starving. The appetizers came out about 20 minutes later--still before our drinks. The brussels sprouts were excellent and worth the wait. The biscuit basket was good, though the butter-to-biscuit ratio felt off, and the apple butter was surprisingly delicious. Our entrées didn't arrive until at least 45 minutes after that. The pacing was simply poor, and we consistently felt like an afterthought. While our server was polite, he didn't initiate conversation, offer suggestions, mention happy hour, or acknowledge our daughter's birthday. He didn't even suggest dessert. Meanwhile, the six-top behind us--seated well after we were--was wrapping up their meal as ours was just being served. The food presentation was beautiful. The pot roast, however, was underwhelming. It lacked seasoning and sauce, and the vegetables were forgettable--very few potatoes, no carrots. "Not your normal pot roast" was accurate, but not in a good way. The shrimp and grits were excellent, with great seasoning and a flavorful sauce. The salmon was moist and well-prepared, though it still had a few scales on the end of the filet. Once we finished eating, we again waited for our server to return. We eventually had to wave him down for boxes and again to request the check. Parking in the back was convenient early in the evening, though I imagine it becomes difficult later. Would we return? Unfortunately, probably not. We've been treated better, served more efficiently, and appreciated more fully at other restaurants--including one almost directly across the street. What we hoped would be a memorable celebration ended up feeling ho-hum at a high price--too high for the experience we received.

As is often the case on this arcade, the restaurant also has a dedicated set of outdoor seats at the middle of the brick walkway. You'd think all of this would be an upgrade, but no. First, I ordered in advance online to spare myself a wait, not knowing that it was an actual sit-down restaurant. However, upon arriving at the space, there was no one to take an order if I'd wanted to place one, and only rarely did anyone emerge from the back with food. I just took a seat and waited. By the time someone acknowledges my presence after some fifteen or twenty minutes, my food was apparently already ready and just sitting there. I didn't leave a tip as my impression of this place was that they weren't really providing any service. There's nothing wrong with a counter service model rather than full table service, but one way or another they seem not to have figured out what they were doing. Other potential diners also seemed confused. Don't get me wrong, the good was great. My ginger lemongrass noodle soup delivered an explosion of flavors. Would order again. I just hope they improve the customer service experience, because this is a great opportunity for the average local to try some vegetarian Vietnamese food.
