After being there for the first time last weekend I can say that I would go again. Maybe not all the time but every now and then. I loved the fact that they use organic fruit, didn't add any sweeteners, and had a variety of liquid additions to blend with, but I didn't love the fact of spending $11 on one smoothie. However, in fairness I did add stuff to the smoothie I got like blueberries and coconut oil. In terms of other pros, they have a large selection of cold pressed juices, power balls, and various options you can blend together, including the fact that you can turn it into a smoothie bowl. I stopped by this location a few times while in Charlottesville for work during the summer of 2019. I only tried their smoothie bowls (namely the Super, the CBJ, and the Coco Verde) as well as 1 juice, but really liked everything I had and would gladly return if I'm ever in the area again. The staff are friendly and efficient. The first time I came in, they were happy to explain that I could get the smoothies either as a smoothie or as a smoothie bowl. I also never had to wait more than a few minutes for my food to come out. The smoothie bowls were a good size and had a generous amount of toppings, as well as granola at the bottom. I found this unusual at first since the other smoothie bowl places I've been to only have toppings, but now I think it's pretty practical so you don't have to do as much mixing. The first time I stopped by I also got a juice. The juices are pretty expensive at $10 a bottle--I imagine this is because they're supposed to be cleanses and replace meals. If that's your thing, they have a good variety. But if you're looking for a run-of-the-mill beverage, their juices are pretty expensive for that. You do get $0.50 back if you rinse out and return the glass bottle though. I really appreciated how environmentally conscious this place was; the disposable bowls are compostable, as is all their waste. They actually ask that you not bring in outside waste since it might not be compostable. They provide glass bottles for the self-service complimentary water as well. There's free wifi, with the password prominently displayed, and I found it to be pretty reliable when I brought my laptop. The unisex bathroom was clean and well-maintained. Overall, I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area and want a smoothie bowl! They also have savory vegan options. read more

Delicious! I got the Coco Verde bowl and my husband got the CB&J. I opted for pineapple over mango as the base and he chose to blend some spinach into his bowl. Both were tasty, though I personally thought mine was better. I wasn't a fan of the granola they put on top because it was mixed with simple syrup and I prefer a crunchy rather than chewy texture. It was also pretty darn expensive. They have a sign explaining their costs, but at the end of the day, a bowl that costs around $13 is definitely on the pricey side. read more

I decided to check this place out after a friend recommended it. I ordering the tropical energy cause I was craving something fruity and was told it was popular. When I received my drink I took a sip and it tasted AWEFUL, it tasted like straight up ginger! I took it back to the cashier and asked if ginger was put in it she said no there shouldn't be any in my smoothie. Turns out whoever made my smoothie made it in an unwashed blender causing my drink to taste disgusting. They remade it and apologized, but the new drink didn't live up to the hype. Awesome smoothie bowl and decor. I got the coco verde smoothie bowl and it was the perfect consistency and flavor. It wasn't too sweet or too sour which I appreciated. It was pretty filling as a snack but I still think it was a bit pricey. It's a lot more expensive than your average chain-location smoothie but the quality of the ingredients was clearly better. The toppings (especially the granola) were amazing too. I came to study here because in the pictures it looked like it was going to be a good spot. I actually liked it but it wasn't a place to go to do really intense studying since the music was really loud. I mean blaring so incredibly loudly that you could hear it perfectly clearly above the sound of the running blenders. It worked for my purposes today but my friend got annoyed by it eventually. One more note, I would call before you head over because I tried coming yesterday during the normal hours and they were closed. I know things happen but this was frustrating! We stopped by this place on a craving on our way back to DC. I'm glad we did! They put out quality product and the branding is on point. I got the Superman Acai Bowl and it was delicious. I appreciate the environmental approach they take as well, which is not always something you see in Virginia. Slowly but surely we're making our way there but places like this catapult Virginia into being more environmentally conscious. My biggest knocks for this place is the speed in which they put out orders. It felt like a lot of people were doing nothing while there were orders waiting. In addition, I wasn't told that my Acai Bowl got an extra topping and once I realized, it was already made. A bummer. read more

They are a bit on the pricey side but makes sense for what the place is. Great smoothies (the coco verde is amazing) and my favorite juices are the blackness tea, citrus fire and the purvelo beverage. Minus one star for an issue I faced on 1/31/19. Hours of operation are inaccurate. I went at 8am to recycle glass bottles and I couldn't get in. They're business hours say 7am on the door. I brought this to their attention via private message and they swore they were open & said they had two transactions before then. They think I'm lying and insist someone was there. I tried to resolve this issue diplomatically and privately but they wouldn't budge. The door on the right wouldn't open (the left door has a sign to open the right door), the lights were dim and a colorful closed sign was on the right side of the door that opens by the fridge. Next time I'll take pics. I was almost late to work because I had to scramble and find breakfast somewhere else. I was very inconvenienced that morning especially since it was 11 degrees that day. I will be going AFTER work from now on because I don't want to go to the corner and pay for parking. read more

I find myself in Charlottesville every few weeks. Given my dietary preferences, it's slim pickens-- especially for lunch. I found Juice Laundry on Yelp and was initially pleased. Granted, this judgement was based solely on a Moon Maiden cookie and their strawberry juice. Upon my next visit, I decided to branch out and try their mac and cheese and chili. The chili was great-- balanced, not too spicy-- just the right amount of kick and oily enough to give a good mouth feel. It came with a nice little cashew cream sauce. The mac and cheese was just ok-- way too heavy on the thickener they use, tapioca starch? Whatever it is, it had a very unappetizing texture and was surprisingly very spicy. I mean, I love a little spice to keep things interesting but was totally caught off-guard. I also picked up a couple Moon Maiden molasses cookies and one of her jewel brownies (I think that's what they're called). I was first introduced to Moon Maiden by Boketto Wellness in Richmond and fell in love. I was super disappointed to return home only to find both the cookies and brownie were SUPER stale. I try my best to be fair with small businesses but these baked goods are not cheap, and so, I called to ask for a refund and agreed to a GC. Fast forward to today, visit #3, and I'm very disappointed. For starters, the GC was the incorrect amount-- should've been $20 but was $8? Not sure about that one. I didn't bother mentioning it because, again, it's a small business and they seemed frazzled by the lunchtime rush. I gave the mac and cheese another try and, just in case, splurged on the chili. Now, there are few culinary creations more basic than mac and cheese, save for good old PB&J. I appreciate the fact that it's vegan and GF. All things considered, giving a customer a cup of dry noodles with literally 2 tbsp of sauce and charging *an obscene amount of money* is outrageous (please see pic for illustrative purposes). Thankfully the chili is still good, my only complaint is the missing cashew cream sauce?? I was looking forward to that! I'm not going to bother calling again but I hope Juice Laundry steps up their game in major way, especially at this price point. read more
