We were looking for a restaurant near our family's home where we could take them for a decent West…read moreAfrican meal. This restaurant was recommended by a local who frequents the place. The ambiance is relaxed, casual, and comfortable. A party of 5, we were given 2 menus. While it wasn't a problem for us to share menus, we hadn't realized they were so sparse until the host retrieved one of them to give to a party of 4 who had just walked in. Our table ordered Attieke with "grilled" fish, fried rice with chicken, a side of fried plantains, and groundnut stew with chicken and rice ball. The positives: each serving easily could feed 2 people. My husband loved the groundnut stew although he said the chicken was tough and didn't care for the rice ball. The Attieke was good, and the plantains were okay. Otherwise, while the fish was okay, it was baked, not grilled. I gave nearly all my fried rice to my husband who wasn't feeling the rice ball, and left the chicken on the plate. The chicken was HARD / TOUGH; I barely could cut through it. Maybe this place is known for its sauces??? I don't know, but we won't be back if we're in the Atlanta area again. Maybe it was my imagination, but for no obvious reason, the host seemed to grow somewhat annoyed with the only member of our table who actually enjoyed his meal. The waiter, however, was great--attentive, helpful, polite, friendly, and hardworking--and we were pleased to tip him accordingly.

The food was delicious and not too spicy for my palate. That was a relief. I had the fish stew (red…read moresauce) with rice. As for the ambiance, it was very casual, similar to a sports bar (TVs and music). The food took a little extra time, but it was worth the wait, and the server was both pleasant and apologetic.

The dry rice and fish it's self was not flavorful at all! The fish was extremely dry and tasted old. The sauce on top helped add some flavor , the spicy pepper sauce was extremely good wish I had more of that. I also ordered okra sauce as well, that had smoked turkey ,chicken and fish. The smoked turkey meat they used was VERY overwhelming and I could not eat any of it. I was super disappointed because okra sauce is my favorite thing to eat when eating African food. The lady that took my order was really nice, and inside of the restaurant seemed like a cool spot to have drinks and eat inside.

The spice they give with the wings is SPICY (I should have asked for more)!!! The fried plantains are sweet plantains and it taste like they add sugar to it (I didn't like that very much). I LOVED the cassava leaves (I wished I had some of that spicy sauce to add to it). I didn't like the rice, but that's more of my personal preferences (it was just plain white rice, but it was the big thick rice. I like Jasmine Rice or madam gougousse). I would be open to trying something new on the menu or returning back here !

Very dark and not many traditional tables and chairs. I came around lunch time and there were quite a few ladies in beautiful traditional dress (it was Christmas Eve). I had called ahead and ordered takeout and when I walked in I was promptly acknowledged. Food arrived in the quoted time (25 minutes). Nigerian cuisine is not one I'm incredibly familiar with, but I have tried many of the standard dishes. Today I went with White Rice and Red Stew, which comes with plantains. It was delicious. Piping hot and incredibly fresh. The spice level was perfect. Just spicy enough but in no way overpowering. The plantains added a sweet element which played beautifully against the spice of the stew. The only place they lost points was the price on the website is not the price I was charged. $19 on the website and I was charged $25 but maybe they just haven't updated to reflect current prices. Regardless, I really enjoyed my food and can't wait to go back and try some other dishes. Edit: Take note, it doesn't say "The Island Grill" on the sign. It says "The African Grill."

The pounded yam was smooth and not too thick. I had fun scooping up the Egusi in the Fufu with my hands. Both together was an enjoyable flavor and texture combo. The Beef Suya was good as well, a nice meat appetizer. The beef was cooked well done which some people may not like, but I enjoyed it since I grew up eating my steak that way. It paired very well with the spice blend and raw onions. I also had the Ghanaian Jollof Rice and that was not my most favorite dish due to the flavor. Not my cup of tea, but the rice was cooked well. I also liked the side plantains. The interior is nicely ornate and comfy. The service here was also super great and my assigned server was very personable. I genuinely enjoyed my conversation with her and she did well giving me recommendations and directions as a first timer for this type of food. Overall, I had a great experience here and would come back again!

At the time of…read morethis writing I was starting to give up hope on my search for quality like home Nigerian food in Atlanta. I've tried Ike's (not impressed), Little Lagos (trash), Cafe Songhai (OK), Toyin (not consistent). I decided to take a chance on this place because of the menu. I checked out their Instagram and saw some activity and pictures so I said why not? Pricing was reasonable. Customer service was BEYOND. My contact person was Yemisi and not only is she courteous but very pleasant and communicative from time of order placed to delivery. There is a delivery fee of $15. Pickup is in Gwinnett county area if wanting to avoid the delivery fee. When you place your order plan for a 2-3 day window for delivery. Packaging was EXCELLENT. Slight spillage from the stew but it's inevitable and overall packaging was great. I loved the baked goods especially the sausage roll and scotch eggs which packed a kick in heat with the spice level of the sausage. I appreciated that. I love spicy food. It was a slow burn (like black pepper spice not habanero peppers spice) so don't think it's spicy. Sausage rolls 5/5 just look at the beauties in the picture and they taste so good Meat pies 4/5 the filling is very soft like a baby could eat it but I loved the crust. I'm a fan of ground meat but not minced meat if that makes sense. Flavor was great though. Jollof rice 4/5 I was expecting more spice. I would order this again but request more heat. If you top it with the goat meat stew this will also help. Goat meat stew My favvvvv! So good. The type of stew you would find at Nigerian parties and weddings etc. Sooo good, spicy and flavorful and the meat was tenderrrr like I love. Would order this again and again and again in a heartbeat. Scotch eggs The showstopper! Listen I LOVE Scotch eggs and the way they made these. Let me tell you right now, hands down, the BEST Scotch eggs I've had the pleasure of eating. Sooooo good! The crunch of the exterior, the slow heat/slow burn of the sausage surrounding the perfectly boiled egg. WOW!!!!

I went in and he had already gotten us a table. Our server came over pretty quickly and took our drink orders. I wanted to taste some authentic African beer. My friend suggested an Orijin or a Trophy Premium Lager beer. I ordered the Trophy Lager and my friend ordered the Orijin. I later found out his drink was not an actual beer, but some kind of mixture of alcohol flavored with African herbs and fruits. We took a small taste of each other's drinks. Mine tasted like a standard lager, really. We reviewed the menu and I described what I had a taste for. My friend suggested that I get the Jollof Rice with Chicken, and that's what I ordered. He ordered the Pounded Yam with Egusi soup. My food came out quickly. My friend's order took longer than expected, but he told me to go ahead and start eating, so I did not wait. The food was very good, well seasoned, and had a nice spice kick. My friend's dish came out about 15 minutes later. It must have been a specialty item since it took so long. Once it arrived, he enjoyed it, even though I think he had ordered it before. The restaurant was a little empty, with just a few other patrons inside. While we enjoyed lunch, we listened to some good, authentic Afrobeats music in the background. I even Shazamed a couple of songs while we were sitting there. They also had an area set up with an Instagramable photo wall and a DJ booth. The restaurant itself was very clean and they also had a full bar. I will definitely come back to try some other authentic menu options.
