Tropical Dreams is located in the same shopping mall as Wailua Shave Ice. We decided to switch things up and get ice cream one night. We got 1 scoop of ube and 1 scoop of mac nut. We sampled a few other flavors too and these were our favorite. This is a popular spot for dessert, and I like how they have tropical flavors too. The staff member serving us wasn't the most friendly, but I'm sure he's had a long day. For this reason only, I'd probably choose Wailua Shave Ice next time. read more

Love the lemon gelato from here. The toasted coconut was a close second. I didn't realize there aren't that many gelato places in Kauai. So if you're visiting, this is one of them and the gelato place at the Whalers Village. This place was packed when we came that one night and I can see why, their gelato is delicious! read more

I've always meant to say how much we love coming to tropical dreams when we vacation in Kauai. It's definitely not a place you only come once.. oh no. You come here several times and become so addicted you make sure they are still open after years of not returning to the Island. Sure enough after so many years it tasted even better than what we had dreamed of. We ordered the toasted coconut, mac nut, Kona coffee and birthday cake. All were so extremely delish and creamy. We have the worst luck and often get ice cream where it's melting so fast but this wasn't the case at all. Our server was so incredibly kind and even took a family picture for us. It's small but quaint and really meant for you to just grab and go and speaking of that they have flavors that you can take back to your hotel in small batches. Amazing! We couldn't leave without buying some merch which I'm so glad we did because the material was very soft and making me relive such a great summer vacation. All I know is that they have Dole Whip and it was pretty dang good. I believe it only comes in a cup (think I read that somewhere) but that was fine because that's what we wanted. $7 for a small, $11 for the large so we got the large and split between two adults and a child. I can always lobby for more but it was a decent amount. Love getting some while we are in HI! read more

This is a cute little ice cream shop. They had lots of flavors to choose from and even offer sorbet and dole whip. We tried the "Cookie Monster" and "peanut butter snickers" Both were good. It is $7 for a pretty small single scoop so that seems a little steep to me. Extra charge for anything extra (even to split your single to two different flavors). read more

This little ice cream spot was super close to where we were staying so one day we decided to stop in for a little ice cream treat. They had a variety of flavors but I decided on a scoop of Tahitian vanilla and Kona coffee. They were both delicious! I was really happy with my choice because the Kona coffee definitely had a stronger coffee taste to it and the Tahitian vanilla added the perfect sweetness to it! read more

I came here last night (June 17) and the service was great from the young lady at the counter. Then tonight (June 18) I walk in at 8:58 after running from my hotel to get told "sorry we just closed". They didn't close for 2 minutes and it was 1, small order. After convincing them to serve me, the ladies gave me the wrong size I asked for and I am disappointed by the service. If you were a full kitchen/restaurant I understand coming in 2 minutes before close is annoying. You're an ice cream shop, you can swirl me 2 dole whips. read more

We came here for ice cream after lunch on Sunday the 30th before heading out for some beach time. They had some good options on ice cream flavors, and also some sherbet's & sorbets, not my thing, but it's still an option for those who eat that type of desserts. This place is located in a strip mall where Safeway is the main anchor store, to the right of Safeway when you drive in. I had a really good flavor called Kona coffee/fudge brownie, excellent choice. We visited this local ice cream shop today after it was recommended very enthusiastically by a local woman. She was so excited by the Toasted coconut ice cream when she recommended the shop. She was right about that choice. We both had the Toasted Coconut Ice Cream in a cup. It was amazing! The service was friendly and fast. Wow wow wow, pitch me because I must be dreaming some sweet things! This place's DOLE WHIP is legit (like Dole Plantation on Oahu) legit and the service is wonderful too. Originally I thought it'd be tough with Wailua shave ice 2 doors down but this place can hold its own. The gentleman working behind the counter was very patient. I wasn't a fan of the sorbet options (too sour in my opinion) so I went for the dole whip. My husband and I shared the small and it was more than enough especially after dinner. After we ordered, there was a crowd coming in so we got lucky. It was $7 for a small and he gave a cute pineapple gummy candy at the top. Even better, there was a dispenser for li hing mui powder which we definitely sprinkled on top and was surprisingly delicious. He mentioned a lot of people do it and welcomed us to use as much as we'd like. Very good and great way to end our meal. Lots of parking since it is located in the shopping plaza with Safeway. I have been to tropical dreams three times in 4 months and I can say that every single visit has been an extraordinary experience. The service is wonderful and I cannot rave enough about their ice cream. I feel like they have the sweetest staff workers who go above and beyond to accommodate. For example, this one time I wanted a ice cream sandwich, but they were out of the ube ice cream so the girl that was working went to the back to find a prepackaged pint that had the flavor for me.
