Had our pool resurfaced. It had never leaked until after the resurfacing. Had to add 2" of water every other day. Pay some leak specialist guys $375 to discover the leak around one of the new jets. Charles refused to take any responsibility or even reimburse the $375, not even mentioned about the wasted water.... He said the plaster has a 30 day garante, but when it was fresh he tells ya over and over it requires 90 days to cure. No care instructions or any other contact after that last payment. No after the sale support. Glad it wasn't anything huge, as I now see others have experienced. Lost a customer and Lots of referrals over $375. read more

In April of last year, we had our pool redone and "fixed" by this company. However, within four months, the same large crack that was "fixed" had once again begun leaking water before summer had even ended. The company sent an employee to "patch" the crack, but unfortunately, the patch was ineffective, and we are now unable to contact Charles. We paid a significant amount of money for this service, and it was ultimately a waste of our time and money. We strongly advise against using this pool company, as they provide a poor service and are not worth the cost. He has now tried arguing with our Facebook review claiming we were made aware up front that their work would not guarantee a fixed pool. This is completely untrue, Charles is making up excuses and lies. We were told the remodel would last 20 years and they do them all the time. He tried stating we had other bids and were told the same by the other companies which is also a LIE. We took a chance on his company because he was the first and only to answer and come out to the house. Please save your money and go elsewhere with your business. read more

My sister got her pool redone with this company back in April of 2024 to fix a crack that was causing a major leak. There was no issue with any of the stone work or tile work, but they did not actually fix the crack. Therefore, 4 months after they "repaired it," it cracked again, messing up the new plaster. My sister and her husband have both tried reaching out to the company to rectify the problem, but the company will not take or return any of their calls. Completely unprofessional, this was an expensive job that was done poorly and they are unreliable and unfaithful. I would not recommend using this company to have anything done at all. We needed new pool equipment plumbing and a refresh on our tile and coping. Tropical Design did an excellent job from the initial consultation to meeting our budget needs and exceeding our expectations. Work was completed in 4 days exactly on the schedule discussed, and Charles was in contact with us and guiding us through every step of the way. We could not be happier with the work and will be using them for additional work in the future. They really went above and beyond for us, even cleaning up the side of the house by the pool and halling away rubbish, and pressure washing the sidewalks leading to the pool. At first, he was great, but I think my biggest problem was final payment was due before he was done and then it was like he fell off the edge of the Earth. It was like pulling teeth to get everything done at the end. Some of the stuff I just figured screw it. It's not worth it and I did it myself. I tell everybody never use the guy. Same thing happened with my neighbor that had a pool done by him. He didn't pay the concrete guy and the concrete guy came back and tried to put a lien on her house but unfortunately, for him he waited too long and couldn't do it. Charles ended up filing bankruptcy and even the bankruptcy court laughed at him and told him he was abusing the system. Don't know what ended up happening with that. read more

Please take the time to read all of his reviews!!!... under every company he's changed names with!!!.... Charles is the worst contractor we've ever used!!.. we have leaks in our pool... at least 50 cracks in the decking.... The wood frame is still around the water fall which is also incomplete!!..The main over flow drain was never put in and sprinklers flop around as they are only buried 1/2 in.... When he came to fix issues he only made everything worse!!... you name it and it's screwed up!!! read more

Where do i begin, at first he was awesome ,after about 2 months my pool was getting close to being finished thats when communication broke down on charles side,i would get ghosted on text messages ,and when he would respond and set up something gor his guys to come out that woyld never happen, this pool remodel waa only supposed to take 90 days ,they started end of september of 22 know its june , and he thinks this pool is finished leaking pump seal my air bubble machine blows off the piping , my decking is cracking ,my concrete color doesnt match, ive already got other quotes to do the repairs over 6k, I hope no one else has to deal with this im not doing small claims im actually filing a law suit so i can recoup enough for the pool to be finished properly read more

Save yourself a world of trouble & do NOT hire Charles Dillard with Tropical Design to build your pool. He was nice and attentive at first, but once the huge hole was dug in my backyard, he disappeared & never came back to finished my pool. He uses sub contractors for everything and does not supervise them when they are working. After months of calling and texting with either no response,texts, or excuses stating he was waiting on equipment or waiting on a plumber, or waiting on whatever, I had to start legal action. It was always something with this guy. Dillard continues to lie, rip customers off, and never shows up when he says he is. He will gladly take your money and then leave you to fend for yourself. Do yourself a favor and do not do business with this guy. After going on 8 months with no progress on the pool I had to spend another 25K to pay another contractor to finish the pool. I personally know 2 other people who are currently going through the same headache with their pools not being completed by him. I do not know how this guy is still in business , but don't be a victim of his empty promises & noncompliance with your contract. read more

We recently bought a house that had a pool. We were out of town buyers and by the time we took possession of the house, the pool was greenish black, and full of algae. We called Tropical Designs, and Charles the owner was out there the next day, and he had his guys empty, power wash and repair the pool. He was prompt, friendly and affordable. read more

This is a terrible pool builder. He uses subs and does not supervise them. I had him build me a $125,000 pool and its a disaster. please check him out on the BBB and other review sites. He is a class act. He should be in jail not in business for himself. I cant figure out if he does this intentionally or is just that stupid. He is always a head on the draws so that he can call the shots and do what he wants when he wants. If you have him do anything for you you will be sorry. At first it appeared i got a great pool because it was pretty, I even recommend him to a very close friend of which by the way he done them the same way. I wish there was a rating lower than 1 star, as Charles Dillard and Tropical Design talks a VERY big game and fails to deliver. His bid was the higher, but we went with him based on his passion and photos from his tablet. We should have researched further and gone in a completely different direction. He started the job for us, never came back, and then sent nasty test that we were being demanding for him to complete basic work that even the city inspector says does not meet code. After a month of calling and texting with either no response or nasty text, we like many of his over victims have started legal action on whichever company he name he changes to hide his assets (and illegally gained profits) If you don't believe me, google Tropical Design in Burleson and the 1st post will be a Facebook posting of 5 dissatisfied clients in the last 2 years, including 2 others who are and have started legal action and 1 client who is contacting the local Fox 4 News to investigate how Dillard and his company continue to lie and rip customers off.
