The main entrance is located on Chestnut St. Just walk in, make a right and head to the end of the hall. You may also enter via the courtyard entrance it shares with the former Frontier building. It's a nice space with a host/hostess station situated in front who takes your order right away and then seats you. There is an open kitchen where you can see all the students hard at work preparing the very tasty meals. The kitchen also includes a brick pizza oven, also open, about which one young lady was very enthusiastic. The dim lighting and muted fabrics provided a nice ambience to the entire space. It faces the aforementioned courtyard with soaring plate glass windows that are absolutely wonderful to sit in front of during the spring and summer months. Daily specials include a side, drink (fountain only), and dessert for a very reasonable price. The menu features your typical grill and fryer items. Salads are also represented. I had the most wonderful Sizzling Salad with sauteed zucchini, red and green peppers, red onions, over a bed of chopped romaine. I opted to add grilled chicken and was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful it was! I'm so tired of all-white-meat. This caribbean-american boy loves it dark! All items are available for take out and I love that they use eco-conscious packaging. The grilled Mac & Cheese & Bacon sandwich looks intriguing. I will definitely add this place to my weekday lunch rotation!

All the choices makes it hard. You can still get fat eating here with the carbohydrates and portions. Best thing about it was we could get whatever and there was no need to ask about ingredients. It's got no kinds of animal products. The bad thing is they have limited hours especially on weekends. Cramped inside. It's like going into a basement and there's only a few tables. A few more are on the sidewalk. We chose to eat up on there. It's about $5 for a fresh juice. The Green Juice is made with apples, celery, cucumbers, kale, and lemon. Had a sweet tanginess to it. It's about $15 for their version of the Garbage Plate called the Compost Plate. This is what they're best known for so we each got it and tried it a couple ways. It comes with balsamic field greens, a focaccia slice, macaroni salad, a spicy pretend meat sauce, and the sweet potato salad. Then you have a choice of a protein, and I got it with seitan steak. This is basically meant to be all eaten together. A big mess but it was good. The rest of the menu has things like burgers and sandwiches. Got only a few things here but it was a lot. It's closed Sundays and Mondays. The whole menu is okay for vegans.

We all found something to love here. We started with the pickled things, served in the cutest mismatched china. Everything was delicious, but the carrots were the standout -- so good we joked about drinking the pickling liquid. We also tried the Pink Lemonade and the Strawberry Alarm Clock juices, both incredibly fresh and vibrant. You could taste every ingredient. Since we couldn't decide on just one entrée, we split the Thai Kale Salad and the Buddha Bowl (with added mushrooms and avocado). The Thai Kale Salad was everything you want it to be -- bright, flavorful, and impossible to stop eating. We were sure it would be the star of the meal. Then the Buddha Bowl arrived. The smoky tofu, creamy coconut rice, perfectly dressed kale, and all the veggies worked together beautifully. But the real showstopper was the added mushrooms -- so rich and full of depth that we nearly fought over them. We enjoyed everything out on their patio and left already planning our next visit. A wonderful meal all around.

Original: I ran across a recommendation for North 2 South Café in a Facebook group for Rochester foodies. my best friend and I decided to try it out for breakfast before a day of Christmas shopping. WOW! I am so glad we decided to try this place! The food was INCREDIBLE! My friend got the scrambled bowl, and I got the breakfast quesadilla. the grit cake was life-changing. And unlike a lot of places, North 2 South does NOT skimp on the bacon (and the bacon is amazing). Lucy is AMAZING too. Everything about this place is excellent. It was about $20 each I think? and we were offered more of everything but filled up and didn't want to overstuff! Some of the veggie dishes may not have benefitted from being kept hot a long time, they were still tasty though soft. The lentils, the mild lamb, "mild" chicken (there was a little heat), were all delicious, especially with the fresh tasty injera bread. Cooler has several choices for bottled beverages, apple juice, aloe juice, for example, and some spices are for sale in bags arrayed above the serving counter. Unfussy but nice decor with a lot of wood. Nice wall art, and the warm scent of mixed spices when you enter. Staff was very friendly and kind! We went in between mealtimes, maybe 4 or 4:30 and had the place to ourselves except for several takeout customers. Will definitely be back
