Once we started shooting, the instructor would check in periodically with helpful tips, such as how long to hold the draw and adjusting my aim when my arrows were consistently landing high. I really enjoyed archery itself, although I wasn't especially impressed with the instructional aspect of the class. The guidance was helpful, but I would have appreciated more hands-on coaching throughout the lesson. My biggest criticism is that I think a beginner archery class should provide arm guards or, at the very least, strongly recommend them. As someone completely new to the sport, I didn't even know arm guards were standard equipment. As a result, my forearm ended up badly bruised and inflamed from the bowstring. After doing some research, I now understand how easily this can be prevented. I'll definitely make sure any future lessons or equipment rentals include an arm guard, but I think beginners should be informed about this before they start.

If we lived closer, I would consider it but $5 per guest is great. For the 3D shoot, it's $10 per person, it's the 3rd Saturday of every month from 8AM to 12pm and so worth it! I appreciated that the range masters were welcoming and friendly. The trails are very well maintained. They do warn of rattlesnakes and I saw a rattlesnake skin on the trail so be careful. She's always with him and is absolutely sweet! The range itself is beautiful, quiet, and peaceful. The volunteers do a fantastic job keeping everything maintained, and the targets are in great shape. I really like how the range is set up, with opportunities to shoot both uphill and downhill. There are also 3D targets I'm so glad I started my archery journey here! The range is volunteer based, so donations are a great way to support all the hard work that goes into maintaining it. I'll definitely be coming back. Finally he came back to the counter and said that the order was not in the back and did I mind if he pulled the Ammo order off the shelf. And I was perplexed ?? Why are you asking. ?? Just pull the order. Why wasn't the order pulled and ready LIKE THE EMAILS STATED IT WAS!!! He then COULDN'T LOCATE IT ON THE SHELF AND I HAD TO SHOW HIM THE AMMO AND WHERE IT IS . We did not see it. And he then went in the back AGAIN WITH MY ID IN HIS HANDS. I asked him for my ID back since I didn't want him to set it down some where as he tried to "locate my order". Together we've been to an indoor range in North Highlands that ai frequent, and the Mather shooting range before it closed. We came out here on a Sunday after so she could test out her new pistol, and so we could my rifles on the rifle side of the range. We checked in the main shop area, and picked up a speed loader and extra disposable ear plugs. And then eventually went out to the pistol range first. Both the pistol and long gun range alike, have a large number of shooting bags each. And each have a good range distance for shooting, wapwxially the rifle range. Definitely will be coming back for more outdoor shooting, and look forward to some long range shooting as well.

However it's really the only con I can muster because everything else is amazing. This is a beautiful and large shooting range located far for people from the Bay Area. However if you happen to be near the area (I was at the Elk Grove Sportsman's which is about 45 minutes away), I would HIGHLY recommend you to come here. Everything about this place is laid back which is great for most experienced range goers (if you've been to other ranges so you know the rules). There is no one to breath over your shoulder or even fuss with yorlur firearms. They treat you as an adult which I just love. However it's probably not a good place for first timers because they expect you to know how to handle firearms safely and properly. The cost is very reasonable ($25 currently) and they give you a free target which you staple to a wooden stand that you carry to the distance you'd like. I also love the fact it's open on Monday and Tuesday which is not the case for many outdoor ranges in the Bay Area. It's not crowded and the range master is on a speaker from a central "traffic control box" and he'll do the 2 minute warning and 15 minutes shooting announcements. Overall, it's an amazing place for shooting. Honestly if it were closer (it's almost 3 hours drive for me), I'd be making this range my primary range and pay for the membership for cheaper range fees.

The department I needed was the firearms section, which was at the far end of the shop. That being said they have a wide collection of what I say good ammo that you can rely on for self-defense. What I can also say is that they do not gouge you on prices. The prices are well within reason, and they are updated ammunition. By updated I mean that they have different casings for those who know that grains and bullet type matter. That being said, getting plinking ammunition is a good to go here. You can trust the brands they have in stock and the staff for the firearms department is knowledgeable and friendly. Keep in mind the long wait is due to either education, or the long lengthy checks to get said items. That being said, pay your taxes, pay your registration fees, do your due diligence and you're out and about easy. I may bring in my gun to get checked by their smith. But TBH American Made Baretta 9mm FS is the far superior choice than the mass produced m9 and Italian made one. I don't think I need a service on my weapon in quite some time.
