Been here a few times now for open lanes and equipment rentals. This time around I'll be going back to purchase my own bow. The staff here are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I was nervous going in at first since it was my first time trying out Archery and I left feeling nice and relaxed. The instructors are helpful and patient and make sure you have a great time shooting. I'd definitely recommend and will be bringing friends here for the open lanes. I love going and meeting others who are beginning out in archery like myself. I've also met some more experienced shooters and everyone here is so friendly. Great little community. Awesome place for all your archery needs! I was recommended this place by my archery instructor. My sister and I wanted to invest in bows and arrows so we drove all the way here from south sac. Came here Saturday morning. Walked in and didn't know where to start since there are so many things to check out! Within a minute, Jeff approached us and asked if we needed any help. Told him we want to buy bows and arrows. He asked us couple questions just so that he knows where to start. He grabbed a 15# and 20#. He then took us to the back to try out the bows. During the process, he gave us pointers since our positions weren't correct. Now we know the correct positions :) After trying the bows out, Jeff told us about the package. Which comes with bow, arrows, quiver, arm guard, finger tab and limbsaver. Everything you need to get started. Good deal! From beginning to end, Jeff was really patient with us. He took the time to help us. He also gave us guidances and answered all our questions. He was professional, knowledgeable, nice, friendly and funny. My sister and I had awesome experiences here. These guys are great - we're very fortunate to have a shop like this in the area. They're overflowing with experience and give you the straight scoop. Great introduction to a world that was mysterious to me until fairly recently. I grew up in Northern CA, been hunting since I was 14 years old but with firearms - but archery is definitely different. Hey I'm a total beginner. Just bought a compound bow a week ago. Figured I should take a class to get some coaching from an experienced archer. Wow, in just an hour I felt way more comfortable with the bow, my anchor point, and stance/posture. My instructor helped hone in my sight distance and with his helpful tips we began to narrow my arrow grouping. I'm excited about my progress and what I'm sure will be a lifelong hobbie. I'll be practicing for a while and then looking forward to another class. My instructor, John, I believe, was great. I would recommend him and Wilderness. Wilderness Archery has a decent indoor range setup. The range has nine lanes where classes and open-lane archers can shoot at the same time. The range is in a separate building from the store, so checking in was a bit confusing. The range master, Bruce, is a welcoming guy. Other shooters were also friendly. The negative is that you must check in at the store counter to receive your lane assignment. However, the lane assignments are not coordinated with Bruce and conflicts with his set-up. Bruce ends up having to shuffle and change lane assignments based on what make sense at the range. My recommendation is that check-in for classes and open lane be delegated to the range master. The range has a small preparation table, but not enough space for cases, preparation or staging of shooting essentials if the range is full. The backstops are worn out and need replacements which were supposed to happen soon. Range lighting is even, so no complaints. The range follows standard safety protocols to minimize mishaps. The hourly rate for the open lane is reasonable. The local in-door range I go to in Southern California is significantly more expensive and far more crowded. I like the on-line reservation system to control number of shooters. Overall, it was a good experience. read more

I receieved a call from the owner of Wilderness Archery, Mike, regarding the review I left. The amount of work he had to have done to figure out who I was and personally give me a call is impressive in it's own right. Mike offered for me to bring my bow back anytime he's there and have them go over all the tuning to make sure i'm happy with the end product. The fact that he was willing to go through all the effort of matching the details of my review with sales to figure out who I was, then reach out shows a level of customer service you don't see too often in businesses. Have shot a compound bow 0 times in my life! Received a hand-me-down as a gift. Sent these guys an email, and the owner, Mike responded to me within an hour. Long story short: fitted the bow, sized arrows, restrung and cabled the bow, and I'm off and running. Patient, unbelievably knowledgeable...didn't at any point try to "up-sell" me. All his staff, helpful, chill, and really supportive of a novice. Took a class a week later and it was exactly the same experience. John was clear, articulate, and really professional.
