A local treasure! I was there after a race they sponsored and even the buffet spread was top notch!

My friend and I went to have drinks on a Saturday night. The bar when we walked in had a decent amount of people and the server came over right away to our table to get our orders. We both got our drinks fast. We then sat there for 2 hours and didn't see our server for 45 mins after getting our drinks. We didn't order any more so we each only had one drink. By the end of the first hour of being there, the bar was completely empty. Just us in the entire restaurant. We finished our drinks and were ready to get our check but no staff was to be seen. The server finally came out of the kitchen and we asked for our checks. When we payed and were about to get into the car our server came out and complained about the tip, even telling us to not bother coming back. Together our checks equaled $14 so the tip wouldn't have been much if we had good service but being harassed in the parking lot over a tip put a bad taste in my mouth. The most inconsistent place I dine at. When it's good, it's very good. When it's meh it seems to be the norm. Great atmosphere when you can sit outside on the deck. Too many IPAs on the beer menu. It's to the point that when my friends suggest going here I conjure up ways to convince them to go elsewhere. That doesn't always work but after last night I think we were finally all in agreement that we'll go somewhere else next time. I've lived and worked in the general area and have passed Trooper Thorn's many times. I've always wanted to try it - so we did this past weekend - finally. My only regret is not trying it sooner. I'm a big fan of Ruben's - and this one was the absolute BEST that I've ever had - anywhere! I'm 61 and have had my share. It was wonderful! My wife had their Shepherds Pie (pic attached) and it was great! I highly recommend this restaurant - my new favorite place. Oh - very cool place and the staff was also great! I've been here 3 times with friends. It was never pleasant for me so there wont be a 4th time. My friends seem to like it even though the place is dark and the atmosphere cold. Service has been very slow every time. The first time I ordered Scotch eggs. They were awful. The sausage on the outside of the eggs was thick and burnt. The beer was warm. The second time I don't recall what I ordered but it was meh and the beer was warm. The third time we sat outside. Although there was only a handful of diners it took nearly an hour to get our food. It began to rain off and on but the umbrella only covered the middle of the table so all of us got wet. In TT's defense, my company insisted on remaining outside because they didn't want to offend the waiter- so yeah. :-( read more

I callled my reservation in on 01/01/20 for party of 5 at 5:00pm on 01/02/2 0. We were there on time but one person could not come, no big deal. When we went to our table they had two tables set for us, but we only needed one. We are and we had our drinks. I'm a business man and this was a very special get together. After two hrs. The bartender tells us they have a reservation for our table at 7:00pm. We were asked to leave, as we went out we noticed a party of 3 waiting for oI'mur table. Why did't they just give them them the other table, we did't need it and would have vbeen willing to give it up. There was another couple outside who said the same thing happened to them. Bartender even let my girl try "his" bloody Mary mix (no alcohol )....fyi....she does not like bloody Mary's and loved his version. I was expecting more than what we received. Food was cold, we sent it back, and it came out cold again. Place is dark and dreery with bad service. Place wasnt crowded so there was no reason why you would get bad service. Waitress looked like she didnt want to be there and had a very bad attitude. Don't waste your money on this place! Also bathrooms and the floors are filthy. I felt like I was walking on a sticky floor. Please read the reviews on this place. I have ate here several times and each time I have eaten here the experience has always gotten worse and worse. It was good at first but now.....I have stopped coming here and have not been here for over 2 years....I will never return. My last experience here was really nasty. One of my side sauces for my wings I ordered looked like some thick nasty grill sludge. The service down right sucked. This bar hosts a monthly 5k on the third thursday in the summer months. The $10 race fee includes a free beer at the end. That's insanely cheap. I had to partake. Great beer selection. Truly. Lots of great Irish and English selections ice cold and ready to make your night a bit fuzzier. I can't speak of the food - I came to run and get sloshed. Both I did in top fashion, mind you. I mean I instantly fell in love with the ambiance. The waiter was super cool and I cant deny handsome. The food was so delicious I had to get a to go order. It was a little chilli inside but the food warmed me up with a warm experience. Definitely coming back. Thumbs up on the Crabby Patty, Shepheards Pie, and the Scotish Egg. Man oh man!!!!!! Since my husband and I got back from a trip to Ireland, this is the closest thing we can find to an authentic Irish Pub. The atmosphere is relaxed with dark wood tables and Irish music playing in the background. The menu has a good selection of pub meals. Burgers are awesome along with their gravy. My 2 issues involved customer service problems. The actual food and drink selection is pretty great, to be honest. The waitress comes over and asks what we'd like to drink. We say "what specials do you have?". She names some flavored vodka combo for $3.00 or something. Amazing! We will have that! Cue to 3 hours later... We ask to get our check and are overwhelmed by the cost of the drinks. Suddenly it's like $3 more and our waitress explains that she was giving us doubles instead of singles. Here's the thing though, we told her SPECIFICALLY that we wanted the special. We were never asked if we wanted a single or a double, and if that was the case, we asked for the night's special. Honestly, she was nice and attentive all night, so imagine my surprise at this mistake. I was upset and asked for the manager. Eyes were rolled, she disappeared into the back and no manager came out to remedy this situation. Situation was eventually solved. I just kind of felt like it A.) shouldn't have happened in the first place and B.) was handled kind of rudely. Also, went out with my friend who was single at the time. Sat at the bar, some dude tried to hit on me but i explained i had a boyfriend but maybe he could buy my friend a drink. No problem, she gets a shot and I don't have to deal with any creepy dudes. We go out to the deck (which is really nice, btw) and have another drink or two and then it's time to pay when LOW AND BEHOLD, there are two shots of Fireball Whiskey on my tab. Strange, considering i didn't buy two shots of that but that d-bag at the bar sure did. Turns out after we left him at the bar all by his lonesome, he tells the bartender it's on me and instead of double checking and making sure, she didn't. They had ran my tab (admittedly I didn't look carefully when signing since, so bad on my part) so essentially this guy gets away with theft and I get a measely drink token as a parting gift. Wow, thanks! anyways, place has good food/beer selection, but maybe they need to focus on some better customer service training. it's a shame, because other than those two isolated incidences, I really enjoy Troopers. read more

Trooper Thorns is my "home away from home." The staff and owners make you feel like part of their family. The patrons I have talked with range in ages from 21 to well into their mature years. Everyone that I have witnessed are all well behaved and add to the friendly atmosphere. The menu is diverse and provides for excellent comfort. Draft and bottled beer selection is ample and allows for customers to broaden their horizons and experience something new or to stick with your tried and tested brew. My favorite items are: Shepherd's Pie, fish and chips, "Troopers-Burger" and the beef and cheese. Place has a large selection of beers to choose from. Very good place to try out different brews, however, food was only average. I have been here multiple times (all of them an empty restaurant) and noticed with the place empty, it smelled like a restroom all throughout. Apparently they mop everything with the same mop. I'm sure the smell goes away when the place gets crowded, but with it empty, the place stinks. It is a nice place besides that though. read more

We were on our way to get a coffee at a nearby coffee house chain when we passed Trooper Thorn's. My mouth started to water at the thought of a pint and authentic Irish Pub Food, which we couldn't find in Ireland at North Americas' dinner time because they have their main meal at 2:00pm, so we usually had to settle for "Continental food (higher-end American food) for dinner and we turned around. It was three o'clock on a Sunday and the place was mellow, just what we were looking for! The friendly bartender told us about the drink selection and specials, which were great. The place was extremely clean and had that cozy unpretentious Irish Pub feel. Then we ordered the fish and chips. THEY WERE AMAZING!!!! I visit Trooper Thorn's several times. I enjoy the premium brews, especially 1664. The food also brings me back. The Scottish pie, chicken pie, fish and chips are some things we have enjoyed. The homemade chocolate cookies with ice cream is yummy. read more

Yeserday was my first visit there. Great atmosphere, great food, friendly staff. The Scotch egg was AMAZING! I can see this as my new go to place!!! Excellent place! We held my sister's wake there - the food was very good, the staff very attentive, and the atmosphere was just perfect. A HECK of a lot cheaper than the traditional funeral route, too (and a whole lot more fun!). I used to love this place, and my husband and I would go l several times a month. Lately, service has been terrible. They have 1 person working both inside and outside bar, and even when the bartender was at the bar we were sitting at, it took 15 min for him to acknowledge us. They have hired a new bartender who is completely clueless about beer (and how to make mixed drinks as I've witnessed someone sending back their drinks). Today, I asked for two different beers, and both that I got were wrong. I know beer. I know when I'm drinking a wheat beer or when I'm drinking an IPA, but both the server and the woman he checked with insisted they gave me the beer I requested. I've had this beer dozens of times before. The second beer I asked for was the Jam series by LBC. I asked which one it was -server clueless. Came back that it was the NEIPA. I have had this beer before as well. I was handed a DARK brown glass of beer. I even tasted it just to say I tried it. Yup, definitely LBC's dunkleweizen Jam series and not the NEIPA. Again, I was told it was the IPA Jam series. I'm not arguing with the guy, so I sent it back and didn't ask for another beer. In this server's defense, he's very nice. He needs some serious training, and this falls on management. Not his fault they have him as the only person serving in the whole place. Our bartender got confrontational with a female half the size of him. Never seen the man before. I used to be a regular 3-4 years ago while in college and will never go there again after the unprofessional experience tonight. Went on a Saturday afternoon, place was not busy at all. Ordered our food with the bartender. Then the hostess was taking care of us then back to the bartender! Food was delicious, service was lacking. Bartender or Hostess never really checked in on us very often. Had to ask for refills on our drinks. Asked for sugar with bartender and get packets, ask hostess and get sugar in a plastic condiments container. Watched hostess and bartender both grabbing fruit for drinks with their bare hands. How disgusting! After they both touched other dishes, counters and such they touched the fruit! Hostess sits in the middle of the restaurant. Despite Covid they should be better at their service. Confused over who our waitress is, the hostess or bartender! Board of Health should be aware that they are handling food with bare hands after touching other objects. read more

Food is good but the only complaint is around the bathroom rules. There is one for women and women are not allowed to use the men's bathroom even when the establishment or bouncers allow two women in women in the women's bathroom to have sex. Stop having men only and women only bathrooms in this situation have non-sex bathrooms!!! read more
