Mmm...not sure if I like the new look. Not coming to this business for a while, I stepped in only to find out the changed layout of upfront. They used to have a bigger section of all the baked goods displayed as part of the whole counter being stretched out to the left but now they use this tiny clear square box to squish some of the croissants. They all looked less appealing and appetizing. Not sure if I like it to be frank. Whenever I was in the cafe in the past, I enjoyed looking at the beautiful display of all sorts of baked goods in the whole showcase but apparently those days are gone. I got one of the Chili Relleno croissants and that was the only thing that looked good to me. I could have gotten me another one, possibly something sweet but nothing looked compelling to appeal to my eye. Service was good/okay but quite basic. I thus walked out of it with being unimpressed. We loved this bakery for over 10 years. We were regular customers and always thought their baked goods were terrific. We did get a promotional email from them to buy goods for Christmas. We did sign up and were told to show up on Christmas morning at 7:30 AM, which I did, only to find the store closed, as one would expect on that day. We did pay in advance and I did subsequently cancel the charge with my credit card company. After about a week, the owner did contact us and was angry that I had disputed the $50 prepayment. We had an unpleasant exchange of emails ending with the owners statement: "this conversation is over." We have not returned since and have lost interest in Trompeau. read more

I asked him to get me a butter croissant as well (that's my base for judging bakeries) and the croissant was alright. It wasn't super flakes and it was kind of dense. The Orange Creamsicle cheesecake was DELICIOUS. I'm a sucker for orange creamsicle. It's one of those nostalgic flavors for me (looking at you flintstones orange push pops). To be honestly the chocolate on the sides weirded me out cause I'm not a chocolate/fruit combo person. But honestly you don't even taste it. It just adds a nice crisp to the bite. My only "complaint" is the Graham cracker crust was kinda soft. You can't really distinguish it from the rest of the cheesecake. But I loved how it wasn't overly sweet and you don't get sick of the texture. I kept going back for more. Simply one of the best bakeries in the Denver metro area. They used to be in Denver proper but years ago they moved down south on Broadway. The drive, however, is worth it. A neat busy place with only about 20 indoor table seats, but a well heated patio allows some flexibility on crowded days like today's 50+ degree winter weekend at brunch-time. Couldn't decide between their ham and cheese croissant or their cheddar jalapeno quiche, so like a good over-privileged American consumer...I bought them both. I have always loved Trompeau Bakery in Englewood, so when I saw that they had opened a new location on 16th Street, I was excited to try it. The staff was very friendly, though the selection was quite limited, which I understand for a new location. I ordered an almond chocolate croissant to go. Normally, when I buy croissants from Trompeau Bakery, I never feel the need to check the bag because the quality is consistently excellent. Unfortunately, this time I was very disappointed. When I got home and took out the croissant, it was extremely hard on the outside and not fluffy at all on the inside. Warming it up only made the texture worse. I was genuinely surprised and disappointed, as this did not resemble the quality I have come to expect from the Englewood bakery. It was hard to believe this croissant was made by the same bakery I trust and enjoy. We have been looking forward to trying this Bakery for some time, however we ended up leaving without ordering. We witnessed the young man behind the counter dropping a tray of croissants on the floor, then returning the tray to the ready to serve rack. While he did pick up and discard the one croissant that rolled across the floor, he did not change the gloves he was wearing when he picked up the soiled food from the floor. Then, with the very same hand and glove he directly picked up the next customer's croissant. The pie was a combination of French elegance with a seasonal twist, and the flavor was fantastic! The filling was generous, cooked to perfection, and had just the right balance of sweetness and spice. Everyone was pleased with the crust, or lack thereof. This was not a typical thick coarse crust. They used a thinner version of classic French pâte brisée, which had a delicate sweetness and buttery flakiness that melts in your mouth. I came for my birthday croissant and a latte. They still had a good selection of pastries left. I got a Raspberry Chocolate croissant. My latte was hot with 4 pumps of hazelnut syrup. Fluffiest most flaky croissant I've ever had in my life! I also tried the jalapeño cheddar quiche and that was 100% worth the money. I ended up having to share it with somebody because it was just too much food for me. I also tried their coffee and I wasn't that impressed but it got the job done. I ordered the Turkey Swiss Croissant and the Jalapeño Cheddar Quiche. Everything was baked fresh that morning. The croissant was flakey and soft. I would have preferred a bit more cheese on the inside. It was loaded with turkey but the turkey tasted a little dry in the bites without cheese. I came to Trompeau on a whim and am so happy I did! I was turned onto the bakery by Steam Espresso Bar which sells some of their goods, but wanted to see everything they had to offer at the actual shop. I was greeted right away upon walking in and took time to marvel at all that there was in the cases before me. I walked out with a ham and cheese croissant, chocolate croissant, and an apple, turkey and brie sandwich, along with a double espresso for good measure. The croissants were honestly the best I've had in such a long time. I live about 20 minutes away and with one bite in, I knew I would be coming back time and time again. Soft, buttery, the right amount of flakey... So good! The sandwich was made on their French baguette and really delicious as well. From quiches and bread, to cookies and cinnamon rolls, there's so much to try. I was really blown away by the service and how quickly I was in and out. There's low capacity, distanced seating inside, and a decent amount of tables outside. Definitely felt safe as it relates to COVID. Be ready for a small wait, with a line out the door at 8:00am, arrive early to get your weekend favorites and enjoy the quaint atmosphere of the decor and people. The staff is wonderful and answers questions over and over again with the same enthusiasm each time. I came here because I wanted to get a cake for Epiphany (January 6). I've decided to celebrate everything this year and read up on how big the holiday is in France. I'd tried the New Orleans version of the King Cake and was largely unimpressed. So when I read about the Galettes des Rois, basically a pie crust with an almond paste filling, I knew that was what I wanted to try. I looked around at French Bakeries and came up with Tompeau. Viola! The Galette des Rois was incredibly delicious. Flaky crust, sweet and velvety filling that was not cloyingly sweet. It even comes with the figurine baked inside and a crown for the lucky finder. We had a really yummy time trying to find that figurine! While at the bakery, we decided to get some other items for lunch. It was about 11:00, I think, and they were already out of quite a bit. I tried the spinach and pepper quiche, while Hubs had Chile Relleaux, and my little chose the ham and cheese crossiant. The crowd favorite was the ham and cheese crossiant. I do think these items would have been better right away in the morning. Alas, we are not morning people and probably won't come back for any of that. But I will definitely return next Epiphany for the Galette des Rois! May need to try out some of the other french desserts as well. Perhaps a Buche de Noel at Christmas?? read more

I was at this bakery at this bakery about 8:00 am and there was already a line outside. Don't worry though there are multiple people helping with orders and it goes fast. Nice job! The French loaf bread was so good. The family ate this in two days! WOW! Perfect size cheese cake for two. It was delicious and so inviting. The fruit tart was so pleasing and colorful to the eye. The crust was hard to break but the flavor is so good. The creme brûlée was very tasty and the aroma was even better. The bakery had a line outside for 1.5 hours I was there.
