This all started with me getting a code for an open thermostat. It wasn't major as I was able to drive to New Orleans and back without any problems but when I returned, I decided to change the thermostat myself. I obtained the thermostat and set up to do it one morning and I was able to take it off pretty easily but once I put it back on, it started leaking and wouldn't stop. I tried removing it again and re-tighten it, but didn't make it any better so I decided to have it towed to the shop after getting a recommendation of this place from a close friend of mine. Mike was the person I spoke with and once I had it towed there within an hour or so he called me and told me what the problem was. Apparently the thermostat housing being plastic I ended up cracking it because I tightened it too tight and they took care of the problem pretty quickly and within an hour or so they called me and told me my truck was ready. Once I arrived, Mike wasn't there, but the two techs that helped me were very thorough and explaining to what happened, they even showed me the piece that was broken. Lots of shops don't do this so immediately they became a place that I could trust in the future. I'll probably use them again instead of doing self repairs myself. read more

No quality for service, mechanics lack integrity. My girlfriend took her car here and they did not want to honor their warranty on her cylinders. Mechanic even admitted to me he did not write in the system which cylinders he had worked on in the car so he didn't know. To summarize, her car is still misfiring on cylinders they worked on and they did not bother checking because "I didn't check the back 3 cylinders because they're harder to get to"- what the mechanic told her. read more

Zero Accountability for their own service. They did not log which cylinders they had worked on in the system and failed to honor their warranty. December 2024 I had three cylinders serviced, recently had a misfire on the cylinder that was worked on by them and when i called asking them to have them check it since they were within warranty. they offered to see it, did not replace the warrantied parts and reset the codes. the misfires persisted and they were lazy to check it even going so far as to say " i didn't check the back three because the front 3 are easier." ... it was cylinders 1 that misfired so he practically admitted he didn't bother checking. My car is still misfiring and the cylinders are still warrantied and the mechanic scolded me and said "i never want to see your car again" after i asked him to honor his warranty. If you're a woman, do not take your car here as they will use that as an excuse for lazy and poor quality service. Find a shop with integrity and care for quality. read more

However, when I went in the person at the desk was not at all personable and of course gave me a full quote for having everything done instead of seeing how he could work with me according to my real need and finances. Took my F150 in because the left tail light and brake light wasn't working. They quoted me over $1000 for a new BCM. After doing some research I bought a ELM327 OBDII scanner for $19.99 on Amazon and after downloading a $3.99 app I was able to clear the error codes in my BCM and low and behold both blinker and brake lights work again. read more

There is no better and honest place. My truck was in and out of the Ford dealership for a brake issue. Rotors resurfaced, pads replaced and still had shudder and squeaking issues. One time, the Ford service manager told me that my drivers side seat was shaking and to blame - what???? Based of a recommendation from a friend, I took my truck there. Tripp's instantly said that my rotors needed to be replaced and one brake pad was cracked. These were just replaced less than 30 days prior. The squeaking issue continued but after a second visit, Tripp's guys took care of it. Safety and my brakes are now fully restored like brand new. Tripp's has been taking care of my family's vehicles for 20+ years. Today I was in Dallas with a check engine light and a shaking car. Scared of the worst- I went to a nearby Firestone. It was bad-they told me it was a $1500 repair. Before I agreed to service, my husband reminded me to call Tripp's. I spoke with Richard who advised it would be a $600, 3 hour job and reassured me I could drive it back without any problems. I arrived in a panic and left my car in his care. Before my Uber could make it to the freeway, Richard called and said that we had been given the wrong information. It was a 10 minute job that cost less than $160!!!! I am an excellent mechanic and a mechanical engineer. I know then I am lied to. My neighbor who is an elderly widow took her car to Tripp's for diagnostic work. I told him I needed an alignment, oil change and possibly new brake pads. He asked me a few questions on why I thought I needed new pads. Told me they would take a look before doing work. Richard and Staff runs a straight forward and honest business. I have used him for years and had a Turbo Under Boost Error on my 2013 Explorer. The dealership today me it would be $3200.00 for replace turbo / do a tune-up and Re-Program the ECU. I took it to Richard and he quoted me $2100.00 I told him to do it. 45 minutes later I got a call telling me my turbo looked good and he didn't feel right replacing it if that wasn't the problem and to take it to the dealership and get them to reprogram the ECU first. I did at a cost of $140.00. PROBLEM FIXED... Honesty and doing business the right way saved my $3000.00 THANK RICHARD, keep up the good work. read more

These are honest mechanics. They know what they are doing because they enjoy working on their own vehicles. They aren't the cheapest in town, but they aren't going to "fix" something that is not broken, so you save plenty there! One of the first times I went there, they mistakenly charged me for overlapping labor, but I didn't catch it. The owner called me back an hour later and asked me to come back so he can give me my $200 back that they overcharged me. How many mechanics do you know that would do that? Both times, the repair was completed at the stated price and at the stated time. They gave me a list of suggested maintenance items but there was no pressure to upsell. This place is awesome!!! I went to Kwik car care on Fry rd near Morton to get my oil changed before heading to San Antonio. I got about 2 blocks from there and my car would not accelerate!! I somehow managed to coast it into a gas station and I called the guy at Kwik car and told him what was happening, the first thing he said was well it's nothing I did but I will drive over there and take a look. Over an hour later I realized he was full of it so I called a tow truck, they recommended Tripps Auto; after about 10 minutes Richard came out and told me nothing was wrong with my car, the idiot who did my oil change forgot to hook my air filter back up!!! He didn't charge me anything, and I went straight back to Kwik car and got my money back for the tow!!! The only good thing that came out of that suckfest of a day was finding Tripps Auto!!! Unfortunately, we have not had a good experience with Tripp's. I have debated on posting a bad review however, if other people have had negative experiences it may be a matter of lack of quality assurance and management needs to take notice. We used Tripp's several times in 2016. We have an older SUV that has 120k miles and therefore needed some standard replacements such as, shocks, brakes, hoses, etc. My 2 points of concern is that the brakes installed are after market and make a horrible squealing sound every time we brake, Chevy dealer says nothing to do except replace with Chevy brakes. This piece of information would have been nice to know when they were giving a competitive quote. When they replaced the back shocks they cut into the hard cover that goes over the wheels to get to the shocks. No shop manager noticed this? We did bring it back and they made it right by replacing the two covers. They failed to remove the large red and white factory stickers, a minor detail but I like details in workmanship. I took it back to have a standard oil change and asked them to inspect it to determine if anything needed attention before we took a road trip the next day. I asked them at pick up if everything looked good, if the truck was in good shape, answer was yes. The very next day it broke down on the road 400 miles away. Again, the Chevy dealer in that town said the bad radiator hose should have been noticed during a standard inspection. To note our own fault, we took it to a Kwik Kar 3 months prior who added replacing some hoses, the radiator being one, but because they always seem to exaggerate and present it as if our truck is about to explode, we take their caution with a grain of salt. We now use them for oil changes, take the lengthy list of "have to's" and go to Chevy dealer who usually ends up suggesting half of the items for maintenance and/or repair. I realize dealerships are expensive, but we ended up having to replace the radiator and transmission. While our truck was getting fixed, against my better judgement, I took our other car in for a standard oil change. The next day it was overheating on highway 99. It too had a bad radiator hose and the dealership said they rarely see that happen with Lexus cars. It was just at the dealership 5 months prior for a standard oil change, no problems noted at the time. Another coincidence, maybe, but too many coincidences for us. read more
