Tripot is definitely above-average take-out Chinese.
We ordered 2 egg rolls, scallion pancakes, chicken teriyaki, shrimp mei fun, and chicken ho fun.
They threw in a free extra egg roll *and* a free pint of chicken fried rice! (Already starting off on my good side!)
The egg roll casing wasn't fried to a crispy crunch, but it wasn't soggy either. The filling was flavorful.
The scallion pancakes were *delicious*. Thin, crispy, lots of scallion, with that fantastic dipping sauce I love so much. You don't get very much in an order, but for less than $3 you really can't complain.
The chicken teriyaki was the only dish that was underwhelming. You only get 4 very small skewers of chicken, and the sauce isn't particularly tasty. I actually find that Chinese buffet chicken teriyaki usually tastes better than this. It was just "meh".
The chicken fried rice was actually fried. No yellow food coloring, or soy sauce to turn it brown. That's always nice to see. My only slight qualm is that there was only 2 small chunks of chicken in the entire pint of fried rice. But considering it was free, I'm certainly not complaining.
The shrimp mei fun was very good. The vegetables tasted incredibly fresh, sauteed to perfection. And *definitely* not cheap with the shrimp.
I've never had chicken "ho fun" before, so I didn't know what to expect, but it's exactly like chicken chow fun. And they make it *really* well here. Possibly the best in Bay Ridge! The sauce is fantastic. The chicken is plentiful. Delicious.
Most of the things we ordered were really great. Everything had a taste of a little extra something, that I can't quite pinpoint. The food was incredibly fresh (unlike normal takeout). It seemed more like sit-down Chinese restaurant quality.
I can safely say, this is my new go-to Chinese takeout joint!
