If you have a lot of time and don't mind being ignored for a while, the food is actually worth the wait. We were seated and initially ignored. It wasn't until we started looking around impatiently that our server came to take our orders. He then disappeared. When I started loudly talking about the people who were seated after us and already got there drinks that someone came over to check on us. Then Justin took over. Within moments, our drinks were served, followed shortly be our meals . The gyros was delicious, and my Tunisian chicken was cooked perfectly. The baklava was great, not too sweet, just perfect. I love that we happened to discover this restaurant! I tend to get some sort of rice bowl, which has never failed me. The gyro meat is tender and very flavorful, the falafel is wonderful and very filling, and the tea! The tea is amazing! I love Mediterranean food, mainly because a good chunk of it is gluten free, but they definitely raised the bar at this restaurant. Every Ramadan I crave the very foods that Muslims are abstaining from during daylight hours. The press publishes tons of articles about the meals they're avoiding, what they're eating for midnight snack, the light dishes they eat at sundown. It drives me a bit nutty. I feel like it's wrong to have someone who's fasting cook for me. The result is now I celebrate Eid, too! I got the chicken shawarma rice bowl, and some baklava. The rice bowl was layered with some of the most delicious basmati, romaine lettuce (it works, promise), chicken, grilled onions, diced tomatoes, feta, and drizzled sauces. It was a tender, flavorful masterpiece. I hadn't experienced flavors like that since childhood. It was kind of emotional! The baklava was similarly fantastic. Dog friend also enjoyed the crumbs that I dropped. The only hummus they had was red pepper, so I didn't order any. That was the sole disappointment. My home health provider picked up the food for me. This is an amazing Mediterranean restaurant with amazing and fast service. This location is right outside of the Lackland base and is a great place to stop for some lunch. I ordered the Gyro rice bowl and it was fantastic and extremely flavorful. The amount of rice did surpass the rest of the ingredients , but it was still quite amazing. Came back expecting more good food. I previously gave it a 4 star. So disappointed! I did carry out. The french fries were not cooked enough, limp and blackened. The attached picture is of the fries before I put them in the oven to finish cooking them. They were inedible before and after I put them in the oven. They ran out of tzaziki and substituted with hummus. The gyro sandwich was ok. I should have stayed with the shawarma. Probably won't come back. Lamb bowl was delightful and comes in at a good price point. Ingredients were fresh and the flavors played well together. The Ms had the falafel plate, tasty was reported as good, however very dry, definitely have to get extra sauce to make these palatable. Decorum was well presented, and comfortable. What brought everything to a screeching halt was the horribly loud odor being emitted by the restroom sanitary drains, this stench was noticeable 10 feet from the bathrooms and called everything else into question. We figured humm Mediterranean food in Texas, well BBQ wasn't all that so why not? From the moment we walked in the customer service was great by the young man behind the coffee counter, also ended up being our waiter. My parents never tried Mediterranean food but I have. The young man gave them time to explorer the menu and answered their many question. The roasted hummus with pita bread was fresh and good, I just it was brushed with olive oil & garlic but was still good. The lamb and chicken tender! Everything was very well presented on our plates meaning our food didn't look thrown on the plates...they put thought & care into making all our plates and that's very much appreciated!! This place is a vibe! Let's start there. The ambiance is amazing, the decor and aesthetic is just everything! There is nothing better than eating a delicious meal in a beautiful and clean setting. And speaking of food! OMG! This is the first place I've had lamb that wasn't gamey with a not so pleasant after taste. The lamb here is like cooked to perfection! It's tendered, it's well seasoned, and pairs perfectly with every dish I've had it in- and I've tried quite a few dishes here. The food is so good that I literally try something different every time I go (which is so out of the norm for me) and have yet to be disappointed! You will thoroughly enjoy anything you get here. And the owners are so cool! They're personable, friendly, very welcoming, and just make you feel like family. I just absolutely love the place! I had never heard of a falafel calzone before, but this dish has now become my favorite way to eat falafel. The bread was similar to a flavorful naan stuffed with just the right amount of cheese and the falafel was delicious. It looked like a small amount of food when served, but it was surprisingly filling. Would recommend with a side of curly fries - partially to help round out the meal, but mostly because they were tasty. Restaurant was very clean. Service was quick and friendly. Considering the limited dining options in the Lackland area, this place was sorely needed. Add in the fact that it also has a hookah bar, and you have a semblance of a social gathering place. Ensure that there's walls, glass, and doors separating the two areas and you've pleased everyone to walk through your doors! I am so tired of going to hookah places that decide to serve food and make people who are just there for the food sit in the smoke-saturated area and hack up a lung! Super grateful that this place has done it right- the building is clearly new, freshly painted, and carefully decorated. That being said, I guess most people come here for the hookah, because it was dead empty at noon on a weekday despite an $8 buffet. I'd pass on the buffet in the future, because it was pretty limited and the food wasn't that good- giant pan of greek salad, bland lentil soup, spicy chicken and rice, spicy fish in the exact same sauce, bland fish without a sauce, and a pasta dish that was falling apart. The price was right for what you got, but I would have rather ordered from the menu. So we did- after lunch, we got take out for dinner. You know, to make sure this review was as thorough as possible. All in the name of research, I say! (Translation: our groupon was worth $30). The menu-food reminded me of the food you'll find at Sultans in the medical center- cheap and decent and tasty, but more of an American-Medi fusion than authentic. The gyro was decent, and the calzone with lamb and onions was good, too. They have a bomb garlic sauce. Even waiting until evening to reheat and eat these items, they were still clearly fresh and tasty, and they were priced well- about $7 for each, would make a decent lunch or good snacks while smoking hookah. I want to take a special moment to mention the NY Cheesecake. We ordered a slice for dessert and, for better or worse, it was the star of our lunch. The crust was lumpy and uneven, which gave it a homemade feel, and it had a layer of strawberry both on top and in the middle, and the back end didn't have that nasty clumpy feeling/taste to it like most store-bought cheesecakes do. I tried Tripoli's last year and walked away having not enjoyed my meal. Today, about 8 months later, I have a whole new take on Tripoli's. I ate here with a couple of coworkers and it has improved greatly. After the first trip, I would have given then maybe 2 stars but today it's 4 stars. They offer a nice, albeit small buffet. The usual suspects are present. There are 2 different kinds of rice which were both nicely seasoned. The white rice had a real lemon or lime taste. Let's call it citrusy. The salad was prepared with diced tomatoes, some black olives, and feta cheese. Their dressing added a nice tang to it. One thing I didn't care for was the way they nearly shredded the lettuce. I like to stab my salad with a fork, not scoop it. There were numerous meats on tap and a sampling of fish. The boneless chicken chucks had nice crusty burnt bits that immediately informed you that these were properly grilled over fire. They also had another chicken that looked like a rib; dark in color, amazingly spiced, and absolutely moist with a hint of grease, these babies were the bomb. The fish, I assume to be tilapia, was more mildly seasoned, flaky, with a bit of butter and oil to set it off. In all, Tripoli's lunch buffet for $7.99 is definitely worth the price of admission. If you work on or near Lackland, you'd be wise to give Tripoli's a try. read more

I've had the lunch buffet at Tripoli's twice now, and I've been impressed both times. It's not a particularly big buffet, but everything is attractively presented and--more importantly--delicious. The big standouts for me are the grilled meats: lovely boneless chicken in a savory marinade and big, juicy chunks of lamb shank. There's also a really nice zesty salad, which you know must be good if I'm mentioning it. The restaurant is divided in half by a wall of windows that separates the dining room to the left and the hookah lounge to the right. This partition does a great job of keeping the smoke out of the dining area. However, I could detect a fruity smell in the air, which I found pleasant. The guys who work at Tripoli's are very friendly and happy to explain the different foods--so the uninitiated need not feel intimidated. In addition to the buffet, they offer a full menu for dining in and to go. This place is right outside the gate of Lackland AFB, where I work. I like it enough that I'd be content eating there once a week. And I will be back, insha'Allah. read more

Great food, but very poor service. I called the restaurant and ordered the Chicken Tikka bowl around 11:30 am for pick up. They said it would be ready by 12:15 so I arrived around 12. There was one large table and one small table that was being served by 1 waiter. I stood in front of the register and kept trying to make eye contact with the server so I could ask him about my order, but he kept ignoring me and running around. I could see the cooks in the back moving about, but not preparing food. I waited a little bit and the cashier showed up, so i asked him about my order and gave him my name. He looked confused when I gave him my name and he told me he would check on it. He went to the back and told me the were working on it. I waited about 15 minutes, but heard nothing. I walked to the back and asked the manager about my order. She went to check on it, came back, and told me they were working on it. So I waited and waited and it was about 12:45 by then. A woman came in and told the waiter about her online order. He went to the kitchen and returned 10 or so minutes later with her order. I asked him again about my order and he said they were STILL working and on it. By that time, it was around 1 and I was pretty mad. So I had to openly become frustrated, tell the guy I had waited 45 min and demand my order. The guy acted apologetic and went to the back and returned with my order.
