We were given menus to look at while we waited so by the time we got to the counter, we were ready to order. The baked goods aren't on the menu, so when we walked by the counter filled with croissants, kouign amann, bear claws, apple pie, cheese cakes, it was hard to choose what we wanted!! We ordered: the Alamo Burger: a 8 oz wagyu beef smash burger , served with a fried egg, caramelized onions, cheese on a crispy croissant bun. It was incredible and worth the 15-20 minute wait! Almond croissant - a monster sized, flaky croissant with a generous almond filling. Guy Fieri highlighted this croissant on his DD&D show. It's probably a million calories not worth it! Tequila strawberry tres leches croissant - a small, cream filled croissant with strawberries. This was our least favorite. My husband didn't like the filling, I didn't like the sogginess of the croissant. Coffee - really good brewed coffee with free refills. Today we got up bright and early to try La Panaderia because yesterday there was a line a block long..... all day. First timers I'm sure will cringe at the sight of a $15 breakfast sandwich, BUT that line said that there is something delicious in there. We started off with this delicious Nutella pastry and soon after the Breakfast Burger sandwich arrived and it was HUGE and full of flavor, there is so much going on under the hood of this beast.... I visited La Panadería downtown while handling a large group order for a film crew, and I have mixed feelings because the food itself was genuinely very good, but the pace of service seemed to impact some important details for us. We placed an order for around 15 people with separate sandwiches, soups, sides, drinks, and pastries. It was clearly a busy time, and the team seemed focused on moving quickly and keeping orders flowing, which I understand. However, none of the food was labeled, and with a large order that made my task much more difficult than it needed to be. They offer several soups that looked nearly identical, so we were opening containers, checking the website, and comparing photos to figure out which was which. I also had to open sandwiches and inspect ingredients to determine whose order belonged to who. It felt less like disorganization and more like labeling probably was not prioritized in the rush, but for a large order, it would have made a huge difference. We tipped generously on top of a $300+ order, so I do think labeling individual items for a group order would have been a thoughtful touch. Now for the positives: the food was delicious. The crew loved it. I had the steak sandwich and would get it again but with more sauce. The coffees were standout items, especially the seasonal latte (pictured on the drink menu) and the strawberry horchata matcha. We also loved the chocolate croissant, and the rainbow pastry was sweet, fun, and worth trying. Would I return? Yes, absolutely for personal dining or a smaller order. For larger pickups, I would recommend splitting the order into smaller batches or allowing extra time to sort through everything. We visited La Panadería Bakery in San Antonio and waited in line about 20 minutes before making our selection. We chose a Nutella cruffin, key lime cake, cinnamon cruffin and a s'mores cookie. The cinnamon cruffin was light and airy and the s'mores cookie hit the spot. When I ate the Nutella cake the flavor was there but the filling was very overwhelming that I ate only half as it was very messy. My spouse had the key lime cake didn't taste fresh like it had been made several days ago. The interview was busy with many customers eating Sunday brunch. If you could eat without consequence, this is the place I'd go. Holy flaky buttery sugar bomb! We yummed our way through the Dubai concha, smores cookie, tequila croissants, cookie croissants, peinata and baby cheesecakes. We almost got the lime cake but I asked about how it was colored and skipped it. Yes, I know the conchas are dyed as well but the pastel Dubai concha was less dubious looking. The concha had a nice crispy outer and surprisingly soft interior, with multiple fillings in the Dubai one, each bite enough to satiate while leaving you wanting to return for just one more bite. The tequila croissant was what I imagined the gods would eat alongside their ambrosia and nectar. So flaky and fluffy. The sweetness in all the pastries we tried was balanced and so full of umami. And everything size XL. The tres leche matcha with tres leches cold foam and fresh strawberries was delightfully refreshing and priced fairly. Service was with a smile. Everyone was cranking out the orders and keeping that line moving. Respect to the to-go packers for individually hand twisting pastries in a plastic square wrap, not just using a wax paper to pick and pack in a box. Pro tip: if you are ordering to go there is a separate take out line that takes you to a self order kiosk. There is staff in the area and a separate smaller screen so you may also be order from a human. Everyone was at the kiosk when I was there. Entrance is around the corner from the line. There was also a satellite station set up on the corner Sunday morning, where she had Dubai conchas after the store had run out. Interior is simple tables with some soft seating inside. There are high tops, regular tables, and couches, and they bring your food once they find your number. A little different, but it works. Food When I looked at the menu, everything looked GOOD. The Nutella croffin, the French toast... I was overwhelmed in the best way. I went with the tequila-infused almond croissant (I love an almond croissant) and a chai latte, and I'm obsessed. The croissant was flaky, buttery, and the almond flavor had just the right amount of sweetness. The chai was great too. I got the Ferrero Rocher conchas, Almond croissant (which a local favorite), and guava empanadas. Ferrero Rocher conchas - once you got to the filling it tastes just like a Ferrero Rocher chocolate but inside a bun Almond croissant - really like this one, I can see why it's a local favorite. The thin crispy almond flakes coupled with the texture and sweetness of the croissant is really delicous guava empanadas - this one fell a little flat because I've tried guava strudels from California that were divine. This one was a bit too sweet and wasn't as unique I also got their avocado toast with bacon. Wish the avocado was spread more evenly and that they would have added a hint of lime. Definitely not the best avocado toast I've had for the price but also not the worst. Inside is plenty of varied seating and I appreciate a nice backdrop for photos. We spent 24 hours in San Antonio for a weekend trip to see Zach Bryan in concert, and during my research on things to do in the city. La Panaderia came up time and time again. So I knew I had to stop by since it was only a 3-minute walk from the Holiday Inn at the Riverwalk hotel. We came on a Sunday at 10:00 am, and we were not surprised by the extremely long line out the front door. I knew by reading reviews that there was going to be an outdoor cart to pick up pastries to go if you didn't want to dine in. Rick at the outdoor cart was so friendly and helpful. He told me only carried certain pastries in the cart because some pastries would melt in the hot outdoor Texas sun. He said there is a self-ordering to-go kiosk screen indoors to the left of the cashiers, where you could order anything on the entire menu. As we left the cart, I heard him telling other customers that La Panaderia was started by 3 brothers, 2 live in San Antonio, while the other lives in Mexico. The 3 brothers are represented by the three stars in the logo. There are 5 locations all over San Antonio. On the to-go kiosk, I ordered a Nutella cruffin, Coca-Cola soda in a glass bottle, and a chicken milanesa torta on a croissant, which came with a side. There were no descriptions of the food on the menu, which would have been incredibly helpful, so I was intrigued by what a campechana soup was, but did not want to keep people in line waiting if I were to look it up. So I just settled on a fideo soup since I was already familiar with it. Altogether, from the moment we got to the restaurant to us getting our to-go order, it was about 30-40 minutes. But the wait was worth it because my torta was so delicious and cheesy. The croissant was so buttery and flaky. My fideo soup had magical healing powers. The Nutella cruffin survived the drive back home to Austin, and when I ate it for dessert after dinner, I loved its generous serving of Nutella, Nutella whipped cream, and how it was balanced by the croissant shaped in a muffin form! The restaurant was decorated so beautifully, with rich red and wood everywhere, and lots of options for seating, including leather couches, tables, and an outdoor patio. If you decide to stop by here, try to come early in the morning or on a weekday to avoid the popular brunch rush. I wish there was a location in Austin, cause it would be a major hit. We were visiting San Antonio and our relatives took us to La Panaderia Bakery Cafe. It was Saturday around 11am and when we arrived, I couldn't believe there was such a long line! I hoped this meant it must be a delicious brunch spot. While the line was long, the cafe does everything they can to keep folks entertained such as their mascot strolling back and forth taking photos with the diners, a DJ, bakery and coffee cart available for items to purchase while waiting, and staff passing out menus to help keep the line moving once you get inside. The DJ's playlist was great. We were in line for about 30 minutes before we were able to move inside the door then had about another 15 minutes before we reached the cashier. When you are moving through the inside line, they have a beautiful display of their fresh baked items, including their famous conchas you can pick from along the way. Once you reach the cashier, you can place and pay for your order and they will provide a number to take to the table as well as any drinks you ordered. They do have prosecco, beer, juices and coffee available. We placed the order and found a table. Our food arrived within 10 minutes. While we waited we enjoyed proseccos and mimosas which were served with an upside down Prosecco bottle in a large glass. Very cute. I ordered the Ranchero Eggs Benedict with House-made Ranchero Salsa ChipotleHollandaise * Poached Eggs. I added smoked pork. It was very good. Eggs poached perfectly, delicious ranchero sauce. The pork was good although I didn't taste a smoked flavor. I believe it was served in tasted sourdough bread. Although I normally don't care for an 'order at the counter' type of restaurant. We lucked out by going on a Thursday around 12:30pm - the line was not long and we were able to order quickly and get a seat for a large party. Be careful if you are going on a weekend, though. The line can get very long and go all the way down the street! The seating is first come, first served, so you order first and then find a seat. The baked goods all looked fantastic, but I tried the jalapeño ham and cheese croissant and the famous tequila and almond croissant. Both were very tasty and the tequila almond one was very unique and creative. For lunch, I ordered the Al pastor torta and the campechana soup. The torta was so delicious on the birote bread, which was both crispy and soft and created a wonderful texture. Israel, the staff behind the counter, was extremely friendly, patient, and helpful in assisting me with figuring out what to order - everything on the menu looked so good! We had a slight issue with one of our orders, but the staff and management team were extremely accommodating and nice. The customer service was amazing here. I've been several times now, and it's become a running theme that when coworkers travel to San Antonio for work, we all end up at La Panadería--and everyone back home gets jealous. I even recommended it to my manager on his first-ever trip to San Antonio, and he went twice during his stay a week ago . What I keep ordering: Tres Leches Croissant - my favorite thing on the menu. Soft, flaky, and just the right amount of sweet. Tequila Steak & Eggs - one of the best brunch dishes I've had anywhere. Guava Empanadas - I buy extras and take them home on the plane. Agua Fresca de Jamaica - refreshing and not overly sweet. Pan de Muerto (during Día de los Muertos) - a great seasonal option. Good to know: There's usually a line, so it's worth giving yourself a little extra time. It's always been worth the wait. Overall: Consistent, flavorful, and easy to recommend. Also tried their Matcha Iced Latte. Their pastries were indeed good, but a bit thicker than the finely milled Asian pastries. I just personally prefer lighter and fluffier versions. Accidentally given the wrong order, but the server was quick to correct it and return with the correct order. Had the bacon and eggs and the swirled croissant it was served on top of was soooo good!
