Hattie B's! This is…read morea larger and nicer restaurant than the original location. Who wants to wait in a long line when you have the same chicken in a large air conditioned spot? We're all at a conference and it's now lunchtime. People are hemming and hawing about where to go, I suggest the best hot chicken Nashville has to offer. We all wait on a small line and I order a *medium* heat level. A few are showing off and order the magma level heat. Hey, you do you! The medium heat is plenty without grasping for ice water. My chicken was enjoyable and it was the perfect amount of heat. I washed it all down with a proper sweet tea. Forget the other Nashville chicken spots, Hattie B's is what everyone wants when they come to Nashville.

Honestly a bit overhyped and a bit of a letdown for me. As with many popular places, the line goes…read moreout the door, but with the registers and time you'll have waiting in line, the orders get placed quickly. Next is finding a place to sit, which can be hard during busy times. Hattie B's has 5 different spice levels (mild, medium, hot, damn hot, and shut the cluck up) to choose from. I got the tenders plate with the damn hot spice level with mac and cheese and fries on the side. Honestly, the sides were the best part of my meal. The fries were crispy on the outside without being too soggy in the center and the mac and cheese was creamy and didn't solidify/congeal over the course of my meal. The disappointing part was the chicken itself. The damn hot wasn't so much spicy as much as it was gratuitously spiced. I was able to tolerate the heat level, but I could see the different layers of spice that the tenders were prepared with. All I could taste was the taste of peppers and couldn't really taste the chicken at all. The taste of the chicken seemed to be consumed by the peppers. Sure, it was a bucket list thing for me to try, but it was at the cost of enjoying my fried chicken. I'm sure the lesser heat levels are more enjoyable, but I don't think I'd come back unless someone in my group was passionate about trying the chicken.

I have a tough time in writing this. I've been here twice. I can only write a Pros and Cons as I…read morewant to be fair Pros 1) selection of oysters is fantastic 2) the Shuckers really are carrying the bar seating 3) everyone is super nice Cons 1) now remember I was at the bar seating, Other than the shuckers and who I think are awesome. On one visit with only a few of us there our bartender disappeared for a good 20 minutes. Upon his return he was focused on everything but the 5 of us in the place until we finally had to ask to get service. The other visit everyone helped me but the actual server. Maybe this is a staffing problem, I don't know but being stuck for 20 minutes to order another drink with my meal is not acceptable. Although they had that check in my hand in under a minute and in under another minute to process. Again, super nicer people, but kind of oblivious. 2) Now let's talk about the kitchen. And I'm adding some input from the other diners because we all sat there waiting. - flavors are great, but the salt and spice level is overboard. I had the mushroom appetizer and nearly choked/coughed to death. I like heat but this was raw spice that overpowered the dish. And the salt about made my feet swell into balloons. Such a shame because the idea is great just poor execution - deviled eggs. Pass - BBQ Shrimp, sort of like the mushrooms right profile but overpowering - gumbo. Two other people had the gumbo and when I asked they said that too is just over spiced I want to like this place, but probably my last visit unless I just come for oysters. Sorry
