I am probably the pickiest Chinese food eater there is. Chinese food is my favorite and in a place like Springfield, MO, where there is a Chinese restaurant on every corner, getting good quality and tasting Chinese food can actually be a challenge. Triple 8's was introduced to me by my college-aged daughter who had become a regular since she moved to Springfield nearly two years ago. She had been encouraging me to try it for many months when, a few weeks ago, I relented and we went there on a Sunday night. It was AWESOME! I have been to many Chinese restaurants at the suggestion if friends and went away not impressed with most. Most Chinese restaurants have, what they call, fried rice, but it is only steamed rice with a little soy sauce mixed in and it tastes bland. Triple 8's has REAL tasting chicken fried rice and it is VERY GOOD! Their sweet and sour chicken is also Fantastic!! I am not one for crab rangoon but my family loves them.. I highly recommend those who love Chinese food try Triple 8's. The prices are very cheap and the food, and quantities, are GREAT! 4+ Stars! Worse Springfield style cashew chicken I have ever had. Crab Rangoon was equally bad. Really nothing to recommend about this location.

Three of us ate there and all of our orders were received quickly. Service was great, however food received was excessively greasy and not as described on menu. For example , the chicken low mein described dish as noodles, chicken and vegetables. It came with noodles, chicken and three pieces of broccoli. The spicy chicken dish was described it as chicken stir fry with celery, onions, and carrots. There were no onions at all. Dish fell flat on taste. I have stopped in at Triple Eight's a few more times over the past several months, but had not ordered their cashew chicken since my first visit. Tonight I went with a friend and while the crab rangoon tasted like it had been sitting for awhile, it was completely different oyster sauce on the cashew chicken than on my first visit. It was absolutely delicious, the best cashew chicken sauce I have had since around 2002 when the Joplin, MO original House of Yen closed down. Awesome sauce, really strong flavor and plenty of it. Not the gravy-ish stuff from my first visit to Triple Eight's. (For the record I have enjoyed their sesame chicken, beef and broccoli, and General chicken in the past) Triple Eight's is a good place for takeout/drive-thru but the food is much better, hotter (of course), and portions seem to be a bit larger when you dine inside the restaurant. read more

After eating here another dozen times I feel I need to add another star to my original rating. For the price the shrimp lo mein from the drive through is a bargain and quite delicious. I also love the spicy eggplant. In fact we mix those two together with some hot chili paste for my favorite chinese mash up dish of all time. read more

My husband and I ate here a couple weeks ago around lunchtime and were very disappointed. We'd heard good things and supposedly they've been voted well in the past so we thought odds were good we'd enjoy the food, we were wrong. We went through the drive thru and took our order home. They charge extra for all white meat chicken which almost nobody does anymore. The rice was old, hard and burned, it tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. My cashew chicken was full of stringy fat and dried out. My husband had sweet and sour chicken and encountered the same thing. I could only get down three bites and had to just throw out my food and eat cereal later, it was that nasty. My husband stuck it out and ate about half of his. Considering he was in the Air Force for several years and ate in a chow hall where eggs were literally labeled E for edible and could stomach that this is speaking volumes. Triple Eight's is right around the corner from where I live, so I decided to give it a shot. Unfortunately, the food wasn't very good at all. I ordered the General Tso chicken, and the meat was tough and rubbery. They were pretty small pieces as well... I'm wondering if it's frozen chicken thrown into a fryer since the prices are pretty low. I'm also assuming I got the end of the bag because of how small many of the pieces were. Either way, I had to chew on some of the pieces for an extended amount of time just to be able to swallow them. The General Tso sauce tasted very chalky and not very good either. It was overly sweet. I had to put some hot sauce in there to try to balance out the flavor so it wasn't so sweet. The two free crab rangoons had an odd sweet taste to them and weren't very good either. My verdict --- I was very disappointed. I will not be going there again. My favorite fast-food Chinese food in the area is still, by leaps and bounds, China King. It's worth the extra drive to go there as opposed to going around the corner and eating what I ate today. read more

I had the cashew chicken. You're kidding me, right? Cashew chicken is not chicken nuggets with 5 peas and three cashews with some teriyaki sauce poured over it. It was not good at all. The owner is so rude. If you don't want to serve certain things on your menu, then don't have them on your menu. I tried to order steamed dumplings, which I didn't realize they only serve fried and that's fine, but she rudely said it would take 10 minutes as if it were the biggest bother in the world. So to make things convenient for this woman, I said nevermind! Once I got to the window she lectured me on how long it takes to make dumplings and how other places are the same etc which isn't true bc I order them every chance I get. Treated me like I didn't know what a dumpling was. I am well aware, thank you. Don't treat your customers like you treat your employees and you likely would have better reviews. I always get the sweet and sour chicken. Through the drive through the price always comes to 5.05 with tax, but I have felt dining in it usually coms to 6.25. I have finally found a place that is almost, so so close, as good as Happy Family. They don't add MSG which is a BIG plus for me and my heart! The Moo Goo Gai Pan is so tasty, lots of veggies, and since I'm allergic to carrots they don't put any in my orders. I could eat here 4-5 times a week. The Egg Drop soup is excellent and when my friend and I ate there last week (his first time) he said that he found a place in Springfield that had really good cashew chicken. You MUST order from the "Chinese" menu..Crispy duck, Pork in Black Bean Sauce or any of the Noodles bowls are outstanding. IMHO this is the best authentic Chinese (menu) food in Springfield. read more

Everything tastes microwaved and like these people have never heard of spices. The rice was mushy and weird like minute rice or something. If you want drive thru chinese I recommend Jade East over this place but for dine in I recommend Bao Bao over by the Palace. read more

I've been eating at triple 8's for about a year now atleast 2-3x a month, as it is conveniently located near my workplace. The quality of their food has always been up to par, although it has never impressed me by any means. It has stayed consistent. The food is not my true concern tho. It's the integrity of the owners/operators. They have no respect for their customers or their staff. I've had alot of time to sit back and reflect on this in the past year while eating in their restaurant. I noticed somebody else on here had said something about how the owners make their employees crawl around on the floor and pick up trash/sweep, and I have also seen this taking place NUMEROUS times, each time wondering why it is necessary? Anytime I have ever had an issue with my food they have always argued with me about it and played stupid until I eventually gave up out of irritation. These people are extremely greedy, UN-ethical and I feel like they find some sort of sick pleasure in making only their white american employees complete these unsanitary tasks.... just a thought... Even after seeing/knowing these things about this establishment I have continued to eat at triple 8's simply for the convenience of their location, but after the crap that happened today, it's safe to say that I have had it with these people. (THE STORY) So I run over to Triple 8's with only about 15 min of time to spare (lunch break) After I walk in o triple 8's I suddenly realize I forgot my wallet... but I still had just enough time to run back to work and grab my wallet and come back but that is ONLY if I could get my order in right then and there so that my order would be ready to pick up when I returned and i could just pay for it at that time (MAKES SENSE RIGHT?...WRONG!) So I explain this to the cashier girl and ask if this is okay, and she is fine with it and says she is putting my order in After "getting my order in", I run back to my workplace grab my forgotten wallet, and return back to triple 8's with barely enough time to spare. So I get to the counter and pay cash for my beef fried rice and ice tea. Then after the girl who "got my order in" gave me back my change she asked me if this was for delivery or Carry-Out.... I looked at her strangely and replied "carryout".... and said "I thought you already put my order in..!?" She looked at me like i was some sort of crazy person, would not give me a refund and then got her manager. The older lady then came and played stupid with me in an attempt to force me to stay at their establishment in an effort to force me to wait for them so I could be late to work, just so they could make a few bucks... (This is where the GREED/INTEGRITY factor come into play). Over and Over I tell the lady I have to get back to work or I will be in trouble and I don't have time to wait. she act's like she cant understand me but she understands me perfectly when im ordering my food... After 2 minutes of this b*llshit she then walks back and gets the younger manager/operator. This next lady makes me feel even more stupid for asking for a refund, like I was doing something very wrong. It kind of hurt after all of the times I have eaten there, and as many times as they have seen me... They management purposely pretended to have communication problems in total disregard that they were getting me into trouble with my employer.... These people do not care about anything other then getting their money. I would not recommend people eating here for the simple fact they are funding this sort of behavior. Having a degree in culinary arts, and experience in hospitality management/catering field I feel like my expectations in this situation were completely acceptable and understandable. Rather then refunding my 7 dollars and keeping a good customer, they upset me to the point i told them to just keep my money and I walked out. they didn't even try to stop me, or just give me my money back. It's unfortunate they feel this is the proper way to run their business, because it's not. For this I give triple 8's 1 STAR, this to me is one of the lowest shadiest places I've eaten at. I've ate at quite a few different Chinese restaurants around Springfield as well as Nixa so tonight when my mom offered to stop in here for dinner I figured why not. I've heard a few good things about this place as well as bad so I figured it was worth a try. I ordered the kung pao chicken while my mom ordered the shrimp lo-mein and my nephew who was with us ordered the sweet and sour chicken. My mom said her shrimp lo-mein was really good although not being a seafood person I didn't try it. I tried my nephew's sweet and sour chicken and it was ok, just the typical sweet and sour dish you'll find at most Chinese restaurants in Springfield. My kung pao chicken left me pretty disappointed. It had no vegetables at all, which is a big reason I usually order this dish. Also, the chicken seemed to be tiny little cut up pieces instead of the larger actual chunks of chicken I'm use to seeing in most Chinese dishes. The flavor wasn't so bad, it had a decent bite to it. The rice that was served with my dish was just flat out unappealing. It was just one large clump and when I mixed it with my sauce it all just mushed together like it was really overcooked. Not what I was expecting since at first sight it looked like the typical Chinese rice but, I was wrong. The crab rangoon that came with my dish was also not really that great. It tasted like it had been sitting out for quite some time and a good portion of it was just the fried pieces, not a lot of filling. There may be other dishes at this restaurant that are really good and the prices as well as the portions were pretty spot on for fast Chinese food but, for me I know there are much better Chinese places in Springfield. read more
