Cut, color, talent--all 5 stars. I was looking for a salon after relocating to the area and every time I drove by, I saw great hair walking out. At the time it was an Aveda salon and I was looking for a natural line of hair color. So this is 2003. I started having my cuts & color done at Trio and by a number of different stylists & colorists over the years. I only have great things to say about my experiences. And I get compliments on my hair all the time. I was salt & pepper when I started and now it's all gray. My hair texture changed, my scalp got sensitive, I wanted new looks and Trio rolled with all of it. At some point, they weren't allied with Aveda any longer. I tried different color products and the color itself was great but my scalp couldn't take the chemicals. Reluctantly, I went to another Aveda salon to see if the color was the problem. Turned out it was. My scalp calmed down but I bounced around to 4 or 5 Aveda salons trying to get the same Trio experience--it wasn't there, and worse, I was paying a lot more for so-so cuts and color. (Sorry this is so long.) Missing Trio badly, I called and asked if by chance they were using any new less harsh color lines and they were--a natural, yogurt based one. I've been back, and so happy. I like the apprentice program. I got to know both the colorist (Jada) and stylist (Robyn) who do my hair now when they were apprentices. If you want creative, friendly, well-trained professionals working on your hair, and at a very reasonable rate, go to Trio. The front desk staff is pretty wonderful, too. I have been going to Trio Salon for my hair color for years. Barbara is my colorist, and she is awesome. My hair and scalp are pretty sensitive, and in the past, at other places, I've had allergic reactions to hair color. I thought I wouldn't be able to color my hair anymore. Barbara worked with me to treat my hair with organic hair color. She listened to my needs, and she made the best recommendations for what would work for me. She is the same way with choosing colors. I trust her completely when it comes to color selection. Sometimes I can't quite describe what I want, so she will show me samples or talk through color choices, noting what would look good and what wouldn't. She totally gets what I am looking for! I've read some of the other reviews where people have complained about pricing. I think their prices are reasonable. I pay $76 for my color, and frankly, most places charge more. This is not Supercuts, so you are not going to get a $15 haircut. If you want a $15 haircut, go to Supercuts. Trio is a top-quality salon and as such charges what is reasonable for the type of salon they are. And I think it's worth EVERY penny. I wouldn't go anywhere else for color. I read these reviews, and went to Robin as a result. You all are nuts. Everyone said she was good with curly hair, but she gave me a chop job. ugliest layers ever. It will litterally take me years to grow this out. I should have left, when, at the beginning, she said to me: "I'll have to keep reminding myself how much shorter this will be when it's dry". NO! If you know curly hair, it's second nature. If you cut off one inch, it's 2 or 3 when it's dry. Robin is not a curly hair expert at all. We agreed that it should rest on my shoulders when all was said and done. It rested on my shoulders wet. Needless to say, with curly hair, it was WAY too short when done. She uselessly tried to pull/straighten the bottom layer to make it look like it wasn't so short. But she blew it. And the choppy layers cause my hair to curl in little flips. I've never had that problem. My hair curls in coils. I've never had such a lousy cut in my life. If you have "jewish" or "latino" curly hair, DON'T go to Robin, she'll mess it up! read more

Over two years ago on a Sunday I happened to be in Evanston; my daughter was participating in an evant at Northwestern University. I had a couple of hours of free time, so I walked past the shops looking to get my hair cut. After passing three or four I felt compelled to enter Trio Evanston. I met Chad the stylist, he is pleasant, personable and very talented at his craft. He listens intently as to what the desire is and demonstrates attention to detail. I live in Milwaukee and still ONLY go to Chad to have my hair cut/styled. The salon is accomodating with appointments. The environment is hip but also laid back. People think I'm crazy to drive so far, but it is well worth the time and additional expense to travel. I always leave with an excellent cut and feel good about the overall experience. read more

For April 30th 2011, I was searching for a Salon for Mother of the Bride / The Bride / and 1 Bridesmaid. We live in Evanston and were looking for a Salon close to our home to have more time to prepare to be ready for a 3:00 ceremony. Trio was totally new to us, first time customer's and we could not have been happier with their high quality of customer service from those who answer the phone to Chad who did the mother of the bride and the bridesmaid hair. The stylist who did the Bride's hair was just as excellent as Chad (I'm sorry I did not get her name) and the Bride walked out in less than a hour a very happy Bride to be. I first came to Trio a few years ago to try to get my hair fixed after another noted Evanston salon managed to "accidentally" break off half the hair on the back of my head from a bleach mishap. I was matched with Barbara for my color, and have been with her ever since. She is meticulous in her work and not only does she always make sure my color is looking right, she is very concerned about my hair's condition as well. She is also super nice, as are all the rest of the staff I've ever met - I feel like I'm coming to hang out for a chat with girlfriends whenever I walk through the door! I was just in this past week, and have been getting tons of compliments on my color (including from someone else who works as a hair stylist!). Trio Evanston is the only place I'll get my hair cut now. After almost two years of searching Evanston for an amazing stylist, I found Amy at Trio. She gave me the undercut I'd been trying to get for a long time. I was especially impressed with the care Amy took in making sure she was giving me EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. The salon is based in luxury products and service so the haircut was more expensive than I'd ever paid, but it was totally worth it. The $150 got me a hair consultation, a wash/condition, a great haircut, and bag of samples to try at home before my next visit. Amy even helped me develop a personal hair care regimen to keep my hair healthy while it grew back out. I took my naturally curly hair disaster to Chad at Trio Evanston. This was my first visit, and I am so glad I found Chad--he was not afraid of my hair and really took time to fix it and get it just right. I was so happy with the way it turned out! He really knows curls and supports and promotes curls! He caused me to feel good about my hair mess. Jada did color and I was very happy with it. The shampoo treatment is great with the scalp massage. Everyone was very nice, not pushy with the products, and the atmosphere was comfortable and so friendly. If you complain about the price, get real! Have you checked professional salons in Chicago??? This is a professional salon and if you want a cheap haircut go to "quick cuts." (lol) read more

I've been going to Robyn for my haircuts for 4+ years. She's the best. She always listens to what I want and always does it just like I've requested. I've even had her suggest that my idea wouldn't likely turn out quite how I wanted, which is very helpful. I relax when I'm with Robyn and we chat, but she's never over the top chatty like some other stylists I've had. When I walk out of the salon I get a million complements on my hair, every single time. Robyn does great work. I've done very dramatic changes and minor trims with Robyn and the results are always fantastic. The receptionists are also very friendly and professional and the hair washers are wonderful head massagers! Go see Robyn and you won't regret it! read more

Chad is fantastic! I called and asked the salon who would be good to work with my hair which is half straight and half really coarse/wiry/wavy. They recommended Chad. He did such a great job and really listened to what I wanted to have done. When I was worried we might be going too short, he changed course and left me some length. He spent a lot of time making sure the cut was perfect. I have been to 3 other upscale salons (all in similar, if not more expensive, price range) and felt like no one was listening to me. I think at those other salons, I got 3 years of blunt cuts when I had asked for bobs with layers. Honestly, I felt like Chad gave me my first real haircut since moving to Evanston. read more

I have been a client of Trio for several years now! I began as a model in 2006 for the students who learn on premise to refine their color and cutting skills. I was always pleased. I loved the work of each member of the Trio team as well as the general feeling of the salon. I no longer come as a model and have for a long time been a regular client, Iwen does the greatest color in the world. She knows what suits my coloring and my highlights are to die for! Best in service and style! I have been going to Trio for over ten years now. Trio is the best salon around. Philip and Rosa have given me numerous different colors, cuts, and extensions. I always leave the salon overjoyed! Philip is an amazing colorist able to change my look completely or just retouch and refresh my current style. I've been going to Trio for many years, as I live nearby, and couldn't be happier with this salon. The staff are universally kind, customer-focused, and skilled at what they do. Lola does a wonderful job with my color, adding a few highlights as needed when she touches up my base color. Lea is good at listening to what I want when she gives me a haircut. I've gotten my hair highlighted by Barbara for a couple years now, and I recently took the plunge and had her do the keratin straightener on me. WOW. My hair has never looked this great! She's been trying to talk me into getting the straightener for like a year, and I'm kicking myself that I hadnt done this sooner! I've been to a number of places from NY to LA to Paris to London. I would say the Trio staff, especially Philip, is superior to any of those places. Philip has experience that isn't found in most places and was able to work with me to get the results I required.
