We value the lack of technology in the classroom, which, in this age, is practically unheard of in any other school setting. All these values coalesce into an education where our children are thriving. Resilience is reinforced through small everyday actions that instill perseverance and enable children to push through life's difficulties. The five C's of twenty-first century skills include critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and character. I see this every day with my children and their peers. On field trips, facilitators of the tours have commented on observing these traits too - a testament to the quality of their education. Things that should be highlighted: - In the grades, first through eight, the students travel in a cohort with the same teacher. This builds rapport, year after year, and better understanding of how the child learns best. - It's tech free. No computers, no tablets, no movies. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Kids have their hands on realia. Not screens. - Updates. Parents receive updates from their teachers, snippets of what's happening in the classroom. - It comes with a wholesome community. Friendly, welcoming, and inclusive with plenty of coordinated opportunities to socialize with others, if your family is socially inclined. - The kids are outdoors every single day with plenty of recess time and weekly hikes. In the grades, they take plenty of field trips, locally and further. They camp and take international trips. It's an amazing experience for the students. We had issues with West Valley School District and felt our only choice was private school or homeschooling. I am so glad we chose to try VCS. It has been an exceptional experience for us these past 3 years. Moving into Jr High, we see no reason to expect anything different. I'm not saying they are the only good school or that it will be the right fit for your circumstances. But, if you are researching options, they are definitely worth a look.

FOUR classes (Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd combo, 3rd & 4th combo, and a 5th, 6th and 7th grade combo.) The K-7 dynamic was unfamiliar to me. I'd only ever attended schools that were K-5 or K-6, depending on when the district decided to throw children into middle school. This school was different. I was immediately welcomed into Miss Walsh's First and Second grade class. I loved her. I loved having pretty teachers. It really set the precedent for my standards later in life. Soon thereafter, she became Mrs. Lewis, and I was SO MAD to miss her shower because I had the chicken pox. After second grade, I zipped into Miss Isherwood's class and I looooved it. They were literally starving him after accepting the bottles we handed to the staff at every drop off, only a month later telling us that they can't make bottles from scratch, even though at start, we were told an exception would be made for my son as he wasn't on solid foods yet. They ignored my sons basic needs, pure negligence and poor judgment!
