Our family has been part of the Windsong community for 5 years. I chose Windsong for my daughter when she was 4 and she started in kindergarten. I chose it because it is a Waldorf based education where I knew they would emphasize and prioritize children's needs prior to any other agenda. The education is based on the appropriate developmental needs of children instead of a curriculum that is established by politicians. My daughter is smart and would have excelled at any other school, but I felt it necessary to honor her childhood and give her brain the time to develop before being taught reading and writing. In kindergarten, she learned so much more than academics. She learned from the older kids in her first year then she taught the younger kids in her second year. Invaluable skills: to listen, watch, learn. Then she learned how to lead, with kindness, compassion, and patience. At six, when the child's brain is ready to learn academics (read any child brain development book or even google it!) she excelled. Through games, rhymes, and songs my daughter learned numbers and letters. How I wish I have learned this way! It makes so much sense! They are children, they should be treated as such and taught in a way that they learn to love the process of learning. The third-grade teacher has developed a bond with my daughter and her classmates that is unlike any other teacher-student relationship. Having the teacher move up in the grades with the class has been such an amazing experience. The teacher has been such a support to our family. I know that she is a safe person for my daughter to go to when life gets tough and confusing, as it usually does. It truly is a community and it is a great place to be. read more

Windsong School isn't a school for everyone. If one is looking for a Waldorf style education for their children, this is the place. If a person is looking for traditional compulsory education, then, no, Windsong School isn't going to measure up to the current standard of introduction of academics at early ages and introducing concepts prior to physical and emotional readiness. I am a parent of four young children, three of which attend Windsong School. I have two children in the Early Childhood program classes (no academics being taught and I'm happy about it). Our oldest is in the grades program in second grade and he is learning at a rate that is right for him. We are currently in our second full year at this sch The methods of academic grades and early childhood teaching at this school are aligned with Waldorf/Steiner education worldwide. We are so fortunate to have discovered Windsong School. We love the teachers, the style of education and the community that is built through whole school involvement in festivals and activities. If you are shopping for a Volvo and buy a Kia, you might be disappointed. I think education styles are similarly to that sort of expectation. When one is looking for a traditional standard style and comes upon something out of the ordinary or even extraordinary, it can be difficult to appreciate. Waldorf education is something to be experienced. I promise, this school will provide a whole child experience. My children attend Windsong and I have a sister who graduated from Windsong recently and can attest to what a wonderful school this is. This is the education I wish all children could receive and feels like such a gift to give mine. The thoughtfulness and intention woven into every aspect of their learning and becoming in the world is unparalleled! My children are blossoming and growing in such wonderful ways while maintaining and preserving the magic or childhood. My sister is thriving in high school and was very prepared for the transition into "mainstream" school after graduating. Her teachers regularly report back to her and us how impressed they are with her confidence, ability to hold conversations with adults and peers (with eye contact!- thank you limited screens as a foundation set at Windsong!) and creative problem solving and thinking. The educators and faculty are without exception top tier on every level. I feel incredibly grateful that my kids are on the receiving end of such authentic care, love, and remarkable intelligence with respect to education and specifically Waldorf. Again, every single thing about the education my children are receiving is so thoughtfully crafted and implemented with such care and intention by these educators. These teachers are so dedicated and you can feel how much they love what they do! If your heart is yearning for more for your children's education, look no further. Windsong is a place where all children belong and can thrive and where families benefit by becoming part of a greater community too. I could not recommend this school enough. read more

Windsong School is a magical, special, reverent place where kids get to be kids, grow how kids need to grow, and learn how kids need to learn! They get to be outside every day for a substantial amount of time to really connect with the earth, every single day, no matter the weather!! The kids dress for the weather. I love that there are no screens at this school, and very few distractions. Everything is so grounded, the teachers know what they are doing and they are amazing and are in tune with the kids and how to work with them for the best learning environment. They use music and rhythm with math, music with art, nature in science, and the outdoors in physical education! They do real life activities, they work together, they create art in food, painting, clay, coloring, chalk, knitting and much more. I cannot say enough amazing things about Windsong. My wish is that every child could go to this school. It just feels good when you're there. It feels peaceful and you feel safe and happy! I wish I could go to Windsong! I'm also grateful for the tuition assistance program they offer so that all children can be privelaged to go to Windsong, no matter their parents income! Cause every child deserves a school like this!!! I have a child in public school, and two at Windsong. It's like night and day!! Such a great school! I am not sure what these negative reviews are about but perhaps you should do some research before enrolling your children in a school? Waldorf schools do not teach academics until first grade this is not a Windsong thing this is a Waldorf thing. Young children are allowed the freedom kids use to have to learn through exploration and play. While the nursery kids don't know how to count to 30 in Spanish and have not worked on phonics and reading, they know to deal with life's difficult social interactions. Personally I sleep better at night knowing my 3 and 6 year old are out there exploring nature, climbing trees, building fairy houses, playing in snow then being tied to a desk being forced to learn something they are not mentially or physically ready to learn. Also in reference to another post Waldorf schools are not religious they pull from all religions for their stories but they do not teach any one religious beliefs. read more

We love Windsong. The faculty are incredible, genuine, thoughtful, well trained and caring. Our children have been there for 4 years and love their school experience in both early childhood and grades. The kids are learning skills they wouldn't be getting in others schools- reverence for the outdoors, fine motor skills, a love and curious for learning, artistic love, social skills and more. As of lately the school has received defamation from upset parents. The school has recently showed transparency on the issues that occurred with those families and that has settled any concerns for us. We are beyond grateful for this strong foundation of Waldorf education that has given our family a direction on how to create a healthy rhythm for our home life. As a family we now have a practice beyond technology, of seasonal traditions, of working through challenges and supporting our children at their developmental changes. You rock Windsong! read more

A really different kind of school, not for everyone. Great for the right kind of student/parents. Playing in nature, making things with your hands are important to the teachers. The style of education the kids get here is unlike public schools. The parents who enroll their kids here for this reason. The teachers are very dedicated to the Waldorf type of education. They don't push a single religious or spiritual view here. But they are more open to the possibility that the kids might choose to pursue a religious or spiritual path on their own. The parents there tend to be the type to support their kids in this kind of growth. The classes are really small. They are really into using organic materials in the class. The teachers only use pastel colors because of the soft textures they make. There's all kinds of interesting details they care a lot about. My daughter has been attending Windsong for Kinder to 5th grades. We chose Windsong for the outdoor time/ hiking, the education of the whole child including social and emotional support, handwork (knitting, crocheting, etc), the incredible teachers, supportive parent community and staff and overall a beautiful place to learn, grow and become a good human. In the grades, they learn Japanese and Spanish culture and languages, they use chalk boards that often have beautiful drawings that tie with the lessons, they have music/ recorder and strings lessons (strings start in 3rd/4th), plays, hikes on Fridays and outdoor time everyday in all weather. They are so intentional about what they do, why and how and it is refreshing to watch the care and love teachers have for the school and their students. They have the same main teacher from 1st to 6th ideally!! We love everything about Windsong and we are so grateful! read more

it was such a difficult decision on which early childhood or school to enroll our son in. We decided to try out Windsongs parent child class and absolutely fell in love with the school and the educators. Our family has been fortunate to be a part of Windsong School for nearly seven years. During this time we have found the staff to be compassionate, patient, knowledgeable, and incredibly intentional. The Waldorf education itself provides the opportunity for mind, body, and spirit to grow through hands-on, creative, tech free learning. You need only step into one of the classrooms to feel the difference; there is a sense of serenity, joy, respect, and confidence that is cultivated. My 2 children attend this school. My oldest has been enrolled for the last 6 years. We love it! The teachers are all so incredibly caring, putting in a magnificent effort to meet each child's needs. My kiddo has ADHD and he thrives with all the movement that is incorporated into the entire curriculum. The lessons are thoughtfully planned to teach real life and big world wisdom. And the children truly care about each other. I have witnessed great empathy and community care amongst them when their classmate is in need of help. We love Windsong. We first tried a Montessori school and then a traditional Christian classroom--neither were a good fit for our child or fully met our goals for early childhood education. We are delighted to have found a school and community where our child can thrive. Everyone of the teachers and all of the families we have interacted with have been fully committed to a holistic educational model for all of the children of Windsong and we are very pleased with the education our child is receiving. My family has been involved with this amazing school for many years. Starting with my cousin and her 3 children, and because of there amazing experience at Windsong My 3 children are attending now. I couldn't imagine any other educational environment for our family to be apart of. After moving from a fantastic preschool in Alaska, finding a school that was a good fit for our son was a challenge. Our son has found love, compassion, friendship, imagination and appreciation here. Consistantly since September, our child wakes up every morning excited for school. The classrooms are cozy and welcoming. Fantastic place! It's our daughter's second home. Windsong prioritizes individual needs and focuses their efforts on developing students' fundamental needs as opposed to hitting some predetermine metric. Parents who obsess over those kinds of metrics will find this approach unsatisfying, but that's not us. read more
