I booked several treatments online. I showed up at my booked time of 1130. After sitting for 15 minutes, I asked about the holdup. The receptionist went to look for my stylist, only to discover she had not shown up today. So not only did ANDREA not show up, but the receptionist did not figure it out until I asked. Terrible experience, when I was waiting in the parking lot for my appt time, I got a message saying the hairdresser that was going to do my hair graduated a few weeks ago and we forgot to call you. I told her I just drove 60 miles; I need my hair done. What a mistake, I sat in the chair for over 2 hours and the students put 2 foils in my hair because the instructor dude told them to put conditioner in my hair and not wash it out before the foils. You can't do a foil with conditioner in the hair! The poor girl, terrible experience for her as well, no apologies from the instructor whatsoever in fact he hid the entire time. I walked out very disappointed and thought this was totally unacceptable of the "Leader" of these students. He is there to help and coach his students, he should have fixed the problem at the beginning. Sad that everyone has to pay for this. read more

I have called multiple times to discuss exactly what services I want done with no return phone call. not very long ago about 15 minutes ago I called and A man answered the phone I explained to him what I wanted and he told me to go to the website I explained to him that the website was confusing which it is when it comes to braids some braids are $5 each some are 27 an hour etc and he interrupted me to tell me that "no the website is not confusing" and then proceeded to argue with me about it and would not transfer me to anybody else. extremely extremely disrespectful and rude and that like I said was just a phone call to find out about services. read more

Reading through these past reviews it disappoints me that I am making this one. I have been coming to see Aimee Hawley for six months now and i was experiencing some of the best customer service and felt that every students and employee cared. I loved being greeted at the door the second i walked into the building. Now that there is a kiosk at the front desk, I do not feel as comfortable coming in because I now have no direction on what I am supposed to do and there is no one to welcome me. The last two times I have come in, the tablet system has been down and I have ended up having to wait for someone to approach me so I could get checked in. Before the kiosk, I would have have given Paul Mitchell the School a 6/5 star rating but since the kiosk, I feel that the atmosphere is less personable and not as welcoming until you get to a chair. I wish they would bring the front desk crew back and give everyone a better welcoming and personable experience. read more

When I arrived and check in on their kiosk, fifteen minutes later I went up to the front desk. The guy at the front desk told me the person doing my hair wasn't there but they would figure it out. My hair turned out great, however I was asked how much my budget was. I told the lady doing my hair $100. The instructor came up to me and told me the high end would be $155, I told her that was fine. While there I had 8 different hairdressers. The guy at the front desk said we went a little over the goal. He told me the cost was $280 and I didn't even get a haircut. If it was going to be this much over the instructor should of let me know. I have never spent that much on my hair. I go to the school because it is less expensive. I guess if the instructors can't communicate it going to be twice what you expected I will have to stop going there. The guy said they used 15 extra bowls of color but that is hard to believe. All students have a teacher assigned to them for quality control. And if you know a student you can ask for them by name. The students are there because this is their passion. I love going to this beauty school. After 4 years of having my hair cut, colored and foiled, and conditioned, every week, I can say I've enjoyed all the services and the friendly gals and guys. The Educators are knowledgeable and very helpful both to the clients, and to the students, as they're teaching them. It's a very happy, friendly, upbeat school. I'm so glad I've been going to Paul Mitchell Beauty School. My hair feels great and my attitude is so much happier being around the young people learning and perfecting their skills. It's a school. We know that. The unprofessionalism is astounding. Listing to girls chat as I am getting my hair about how they got high, drank... whatever not cool. I had my kid in the seat next to me and she was listening intently. Now for the service I received. Less than stellar. I asked for black, got red. I have dark hair with grey and wanted it covered up with it normalish color. As it was developing I asked why it was red, she said it'll look good. I asked the teacher lady and she boasted about how beautiful it's going to be. Yah, well they dried it and it looked awful. I said such, they said in a day it 2 it'll wash out some and look nice. I scheduled a 1230 appointment 2 weeks ago. I showed up at 1215. At 1:05, I was told it would be 5 minutes. Finally, at 1:15, I left. They asked me if I wanted to schedule another appointment. Really!!!! I wasted time driving there, waiting, and driving home. Businesses should realize that customers time is important too....and they wasted over an hour of my time with NO services received. If they were running behind, the professional thing to do is pick up the phone and call. Also, there was another lady waiting (with a 1230 appointment) still sitting there when I left. The managers, or guides, walked around helping and keeping an eye on what was going on, and had great positivity to every one of the students. I know that this is a school, but professionalism is an important skill to learn, and I am not sure how heavily that is being taught at this location. I had a hair appointment for a Saturday morning in mid-December, and we happened to get a lot of snow the day before. I received a text message about an hour before my appointment that they were on delayed start because of the weather (wouldn't it be nice if we all had that policy at work?), and I was to call to reschedule. (Note: They did not call me. It was all put on me to respond to their text message. Very professional.) When I did call, they could not get me in with a Phase 2 technician (even though I had booked my original appointment months out and was a regular customer), so they offered me a "very good" Phase 1 technician that afternoon. I begrudgingly accepted, but then 2 hours later I received a call that they couldn't actually get me in because their technicians were not showing up for work. (Ironically I was out and about when I got that call, so I know the roads weren't all that bad... and this is Spokane, not Phoenix. It snows. If you pull that in a real job, you're going to face some issues.) So, they talked me into rescheduling for the following weekend (since they take a long time to do anything so anyone with a normal work schedule can't go after work on a weekday). Fast forward a day and I knew I couldn't keep that appointment because I was going out of town the day after and had too much to do, so I called to cancel. It was a Monday, which apparently they are not open. I left a voice mail... and I never heard another word. I assumed they canceled the appointment, but no one verified or followed up. It was just yet another strike for poor management and professionalism. My regular stylist graduated, and it's just not worth it any more to go back and deal with this place. read more

I got my hair done last month and two weeks later the "permanent" natural orange hair color faded to a nasty grey/green color. I have been to the school for years and when I had a similar situation last, I went in and they fixed it free of charge so I thought this time would be just as simple. WRONG. They tried charging me. When I told them how upset I was with how they handled their mistake they kept putting the blame on me saving my hair was extremely damaged (every other hairstylist I have talked to disagrees) and how I should have used Paul Mitchaell shampoo and conditioner and so on. Um excuse me I use Wella for color treated hair which is way higher quality. Long story short they were all rude to me and I will be taking them to civil court so I can get my hair fixed by a real business. read more

I'm aware that this is a school and what you pay for is what youre gonna get. I had a decent experience here, I came in Nov 26 to get my hair permed bc I'm cursed with "stick Asian hair" as the hairdresser described it. I had a solid experience customer service wise, but the issue is that the perm didn't hold its figure at all. Like it's about a little bit more than a week in from the hair appointment and my hair is essentially just a tiny bit wavy on the ends but straight for the length. And they did a pretty rough job for trimming my sides like all my sideburn is gone and half the hair on the left side of my head is a solid chunk difference in length compared to my right side. So yeah I'm kinda disappointed in what I got but it's was only $25. read more

I would love to give this salon/school a better rating but I really wasn't impressed with the services received here. My sister and I booked appointments with second year students (so they're within months of graduating). She went to get her hair colored and I went for a pedicure. As it turned out, they were having a special haircut deal the same day so we both opted to get trims as well. Lets start with the pedicure. It went just fine. The stylist had a steady hand so my nails looked great. The haircut is where everything fell apart. I just asked to have my bangs trimmed and the ends taken up a bit. My bangs were murdered and the trim left my hair lopsided. Even my stylist seemed a little traumatized after she butchered my bangs but when she called her instructor over to look, the instructor glanced at my head and then gave her the "ok" on the cut. I was flabbergasted and when she asked if I wanted her to do anything else to them (in part because I think she knew they weren't right) I simply said NO and got out of the chair as quickly as possible. Turns out that my sisters dye job didn't go so well either. The stylist got dye all over her forehead and it wouldn't wash off for a day or two. She also missed some areas and had to touch it up. The dye has been rinsing out of her hair for several days now every time she showers. I won't be going back. read more

HORRIBLE PEOPLE!!!! I went in there today to just go get a trim, and had to bring my 5 year old Autistic son with me. I have brought my children there before, with no problem. Today, after almost a half an hour there and FINALLY getting my hair washed, just as they were about to cut, I'm told we need to leave because my son is disruptive. All he did was stand in the hallway. I had told my "hairdresser" that he was Autistic and high energy. Was told it was not a problem. Perhaps it wouldn't have even been a problem, if I was fitted with someone who was actually experienced and didn't just get out of working on dolls, who could have cut my hair and I would have been out of there much sooner, seeing as how I had my kid with. Worst place to go to school. Always new teachers, and it's all about $$ not your education. And they are not kid friendly. My husband brought our son in to get his (husbands) hair cut and they made him leave. Our child couldn't sit by the chair and wait, and he couldn't wait up front. So the 45 min drive there was for nothing. The teachers don't take the time to really check the cut after its done. And if it's obvious something is wrong in a cut or color they say it looks great because they don't want to take the time and fix it. Or better yet show the student how to properly do that cut or color. One the school side, when I was attending, they suspended and/or expelled at least one student a week. For the dumbest stuff. If you get on the bad side of the staff, life there is HELL. They openly disrespect you in front of clients or give you a color or cut you are not ready for and uncomfortable with doing by yourself. When you express your concern they make a rude comment and don't help at all. That's only a few things. Trust me. Don't go. And I'm not saying this because I'm butt hurt or anything. 90% of the school students feel this way. And you don't find out till after you signed the dotted line. It was cyber Monday on Groupon... facials were dirt cheap, so I purchased a few. I look at their website and noticed all the services they had. I couldn't believe a haircut and beard trim was so affordable, literally I drink a more expensive latte on the daily. So I called and was able to get a new day appointment for a facial, beard and haircut. I was super nervous going in, because students. I walked in and the desk was SO friendly so it put me at ease. The school is so clean and maintained. The student came to get me and bought me to his station. He got a supervisor and I told the supervisor what I wanted and he made me sign a waiver form. I told the supervisor the student can do whatever he wants, just nothing crazy. I don't want stripes or stars or anything. The student did a fade and it came out fantastic- literally everyone complimented me on it. The supervisor came back to inspect the cut to make sure it was to standard. Which I love because it guarantees a good haircut. Then I got a facial, it was a great experience too. It was about 30 mins or so and was pretty basic. Overall, amazing experience and for the price I paid was incredible. These students are so talented. The only thing I really didn't love is the other students are looking at you during the process, but I get it they are curious and they want to take the opportunity to learn. I told myself, just remember, we all have to start somewhere. I purchased more facials on Groupon and I'm excited to go back. Keep in mind this is a school so don't go in there expecting a five star high end salon/spa service that would cost over $500. read more

I tried to focus on the positive but just one bad experience after another. First, even though I checked in promptly, I waited for almost 20 minutes with no one at the desk making eye contact with me afterwards. When I went to the desk to ask if I'd been forgotten, "the girl" finally came to get me. She never introduced herself, didn't ask me a single question, and just started applying lotion to my face after I laid down, without saying a single word. I started asking her questions to prompt her to make conversation, tell me what she was doing, ANYTHING. She didn't ask me what kind of facial I wanted so I guess that's why I didn't get a massage, decent face or head rub. The entire experience took about 20 minutes, although I had been told the day before it was supposed to be about an hour. My eyes were closed so it was a bit awkward when she grabbed my hand and started to massage it. I guess that was supposed to make up for the hand and arm massage I DIDN'T get during my manicure, which was so sloppy, the instructor had to redo it. I even had to tell "the girl" she forgot the cuticle oil, which I overheard the instructor tell her earlier that I needed extra because my cuticles were quite dry. Other people seemed to be enjoying their services and other students seemed to enjoy the services they were providing. I strongly suggest asking for a more experienced student! read more

I'm giving two stars, because I did enjoy the service I got when my appointment actually happened. I had a few times where I would get a call on the day of my appointment, which I scheduled my work around, and my appointment was cancelled due to the person not being there or being in a class and nobody checked. I even drove 25-30 minutes after I got off work to make a rescheduled appointment, only to find out they didn't have anyone available and my technician was not there. Nobody even called or texted me! Needless to say, I stopped going months ago. I will not return to a Paul Mitchell school. They just don't know how to stay organized. read more

One Star is the lowest you can go unfortunately. I went in for highlights and lowlights. My hair was blond to start with. I HAD A PICTURE FOR PETE'S SAKE! I asked for dark on the underside and they did a full head of brown hair. After 5 hours & $150, my hair is dark brown with almost black at the bottom with a few strands of blond and 2 streaks of blond on the underside (?). The manager or whatever she was wouldn't come out and face me and made sure I paid full price. I was advised that I could come back and pay for them to "FIX" it and they would only charge me cost!!!!! I obviously didn't go back. A reputable salon advised me yesterday that it's going to cost me about $150 - $200 to fix their mistake. I have left 2 posts on the Paul Mitchell School - Spokane and they erase them instead of responding to them. Same with the corporate Paul Mitchell facebook page. So, my friend came here to get her hair dyed black and a blonde streak in it. They estimated a 2 hour appointment over the phone and she had a 9am appointment. After 5 hours, she was finally done. We talked to a manager about the amount of time vs the estimate and she told us that the actual minimum for foils like this is 3 hours. Not only were we kept for 3 HOURS past the original estimate, we were given an estimate for time that was less than the minimum required. Because of this problem, she was 2 hours late to her own bachelorette party. Did I mention that she's paying nearly 100$ for this?!? And she got it done for her WEDDING?! After talking to the manager, the offered a free deep condition or free haircut in the future or something, but that will not change the fact that they made us late for a party we were hosting, and MAJORLY underestimated the amount of time that was needed. She also had another appointment at 11 and she would have had to cancel simply because no one told her the correct time. They didn't tell her it was going to take longer until she was in the chair, already with foils in everywhere. The only redeeming factor was the option of taking a free service, but even then, I don't think we'll be coming back for even that. read more
