Our son attended from 5th grade and loved it. Public school would overwhelm. He met long term friends he is still close to. We are referring friends with k and 1st grade girls who will do very well there. They truly care about seeing that each student gets the most out of school and learn in whatever way as needed. My son started Kindergarten with Riverday after we had contemplated homeschooling. Because of his shyness, we were worried he would get lost in the public schools and looked for something that would provide both academic stimulation, as well as the social growth he needed. In the past year, we have seen incredible advancement in his confidence and social aptitude, to the point of him now approaching other children at parks to engage in play. He is taught responsibility for his own actions and choices, and has seen consistent feedback with both rewards and consequences for his choices. His academic progress has been incredible, as has his growth and exploration of his creativity. What he accomplishes each week is a testament to the support, encouragement, and knowledge that he receives from his teachers and fellow students. Having seen growth stifled in the public school system, I have been VERY pleased with how they have supported his achievements and helped him to strive to continue to accomplish what he is capable of. The teachers understand the physical and mental needs of growing boys and allow plenty of time to exercise both. He is exhausted every day I pick him up from school after that day's adventure and always has exciting stories to share and cannot wait to get back the next morning. His interactions with children K-6 have proven to assist him with social situations outside of school, and I am very pleased with the progress and the goals we set and met this past academic year. Riverday School has been such a blessing to our son. He has been at the school for 3 years now. He has dysgraphia and is very bright. Riverday has given him individualized attention and challenged him as a student along with accomodating his learning differences. It is project-based, hands on learning and the atmosphere is like family. For bright children with dyslexia or any learning difference Riverday truly does change their educational experience and makes a difference in their lives. read more

My disabled son had a very negative experience where he perceived himself to be bullied, and reacted badly to it. I wasn't there, I don't know what happened, but I do know that they were not able to teach him effectively, so we moved on, no hard feelings. I kept coming to fundraisers, donated time and energy when asked, and just kept supporting the place, mainly because three of my friends send their children there (one on my recommendation) and a friend teaches there. But then this happened and I can no longer support the school in good conscience. My six year old daughter wanted to go to camp with a friend of hers, so I signed her up. She was conflicted about going back to a place her brother had faired so poorly in, and he still thinks so negatively of. She has mentioned to me she feels badly that her brother "hates" any number of people and things there. And I've told her its sad he feels that way, but she doesn't have to feel those things. So she went, and now I'm reminded of why my son hates the place. My friend who works there got a call from the executive director saying there had been a "disturbing" incident with my child. And she wouldn't mention it, but she was so "disturbed" by what had happened. Apparently my child walked up to her and said "(Her brother's name) hates you." This person was "disturbed" by this because it was in front of other parents. Instead of telling the six year old "That wasn't a nice thing to say, it hurt my feelings, I'm sorry he feels that way" and getting on with her life, she told her roommate about it, who occasionally staffed aftercare in the school, and he texted my friend saying he was hoping she was supporting the director in this "incident", like the director supports her every day, and where did my child get off saying this? and, (this is a direct quote) "Fuck the haters" which can only be referring to either my 8 year old, or my 6 year old or both. I'm done. When there is inappropriate texting going on by a fortysomething staff member about a six year old girl, this is beyond the pale. A six year old should not be talked about among staff at a school, and it certainly should not be suggested she or her brain damaged brother be fucked. I have yet to be contacted by the school about "the incident" which so "disturbed" the director. My son is a beautiful, difficult, child and I understand the problems that happened with him. My daughter is a sweet, loving, generous child who should not be derided behind her back. If I don't say something, I'm not defending her. read more

I love this school. My children are able to work at there own pace. They can move ahead in certain subjects if it comes easy to them or they can go at a slower pace if needed. The small class sizes allow for this individualized education. The school has great field trips and summer camps also. I feel my children are in such good hands when they are away from me at Riverday it is very comforting to know how well taken care of and respected they are. read more

I have twin kindergarteners, who both attended public school in the previous school year. My son is special needs and I can't even begin to say how wonderful Riverday is for him. In public school we are sure that he would've been lost. Riverday does an excellent job of tailoring education to his learning style. There are also several other children with different things happening that they do a great job of balancing all the different learning styles. There is a lot of diversity there and the life lessons start early, for example respecting others. Experiential learning is huge, field trips, etc. I love seeing them blossom, but truly everyday that they come home and are happy about what they did that day is awesome. They are excited to go to school to see all their friends in the morning. Riverday has an excellent staff, who are passionate about children and their education, and I couldn't be happier about the experience so far. read more

When our son started kindergarten, he began to struggle immediately. He needed a bit of extra help and after many meetings, it was obvious things were not going to change. They did not have the resources in the public schools to be able to help him. I reached out to Riverday School to see if it would be a better fit for him. Our philosophy on education matched with theirs perfectly and they welcomed him with open arms-literally-and he has been thriving ever since. Riverday uses a hands on learning approach, which is exactly what our son needed. He is so excited to go to school everyday now. We loved the environment, the staff and the students so much we also enrolled his sister this year. The teachers at Riverday are well trained in working with gifted students as well as students with learning differences such as dyslexia and dysgraphia.
