My family and I were staying at the Hotel del Coronado for the week and we wanted to find a local coffee shop for breakfast. Trident Coffee came highly recommended, but sadly it did not hit the mark for us. We ended up going to Better Buzz the following days for our coffee and breakfast fix. This place is not cheap for a quick brekkie and coffee. I ordered the Daily Rations Cold Brew with Cold Foam ($7.70) and a Breakfast Burrito ($13.95) which came out piping hot. The burrito is not hefty by any means, but this is Coronado and not San Diego proper so I don't hold that against them. Think of it as more of a wrap. My one complaint about the burrito is that the filing is chopped up and coated in sauce so it's just a mushy experience (see picture). I was stoked when I read that it included hash brown, but since it wasn't a whole crispy hash brown, you couldn't tell the hash brown from the egg or the sausage coated in the cheesy sauce. I hate to say it, but it just tasted sloppy. The 2 gentlemen working are passionate about their craft and very friendly. This place is popular with the locals and military community and I respect that. They do offer a military discount for those eligible. Thank you to all who have served and are currently serving. I'm glad I visited and supported a local business, but this place just wasn't for me.

My pittie, Cali, and I popped into this adorable coffee spot on Friday afternoon. I'd just gotten some gelato down the street & Cali was feeling a little left out of treat time, so we were in search of a pup cup! We bopped into Trident Coffee which is one of the cutest coffee shops I've ever seen! Cool nautical looking light fixtures, an Octopus mascot keeping watch over the place & lots of interesting coffee, tea & nibbles options. There are a few chairs inside & few tables/chairs outside as well. The kindest barista ever was so excited to see us, especially Cali, and he made us feel so welcome. He kindly offered her a pup cup and he delightedly gave it to her. Cali loved every aspect of this interaction & I really appreciated how nice he was to my pup. This interaction really warmed my heart so much and I will definitely stop by again the next time I'm in Coronado! Mahalo!

My friend wanted to go for a birthday run in Coronado. I wanted coffee right after the run which was something I looked forward to as I pushed myself to finish the run LOL. I found this shop with a variety of cold brew options which also included nitro cold brews on the tap! As a coffee drinker, I definitely had to check it out. The location that we went to is located next to some local shops on Orange Ave in "downtown" Coronado. There's a lot of free street parking around the area but could get very hectic and almost impossible to find during holiday season, dinner hours, and weekends. My boyfriend and I wanted to try their cold brew flight, however, they only had 2 sets for the flights which was already taken by another couple. Whaaat sad. Instead, I got their New Orleans Cold Foam, one of the cold brews, annnnd it was kind of sour. It was kind of confusing, giving sweetish taste but with the sourness kept overcoming the coffee bitterness that I was looking for. I personally don't like sour cold brews but that's my own preference. Some people might enjoy them sour, but I don't think they should be sour... However, my friend and boyfriend both liked it though. My boyfriend got their Mexican Mocha, not sweet at all surprisingly! It was quite good, and the aesthetics of the drink were beautiful! Definitely a lot better than the one I got. I was bummed that I couldn't try their cold brew flight but after trying the New Orleans Cold Foam, I was a bit glad that we didn't. Maybe it was a one off day where their cold brew was steeping too long... I definitely will give it another go in the future to try their flight in the future though.

I got the trident cold brew with oat milk and my bf got the turmeric latte with oat milk. Usually i am a fan of sweeter milky coffee drinks but i was pleasantly surprised with my cold brew drink! It was very smooth and didn't taste bitter at all. Normally I add sweetness to my drinks but the cold brew was super refreshing on its own without any sweetness. The turmeric latte was sweet and had a cinnamon taste and my bf loved it as well. Would love to come back the next time I am visiting Coronado!!

I'm a cold brew kind of guy. Trident is a big W for me because they offer several varieties of cold brew, fancied up versions with added flavors and sweeteners and even cold brew flights. Swoooooon. Quaint little shop right in the thick of it on Orange Ave in Coronado. Close to the beach, tons of people watching and very walkable. Clean establishment and friendly service.

Pretty yummy coffee shop! It's very convenient to the beach and many options to choose from especially functional mushrooms. I went around lunch time and the staff wasn't all that attentive and wasn't super open to making recommendations possibly due to the time of day. Coffee itself was just the right around of sweet and not bitter. There wasn't much seating inside but outside there were a few tables available. A good grab and go spot!

One of a few coffee shops along busy Orange Ave but caught my eye when I was in the area. The space itself is small but there's both indoor and outdoor seating. Really dig the sea theme throughout. Staff were attentive and willing to offer suggestions based on dietary needs. Appreciate that they offer not only dairy free, caffeine free, and low acid options. Had a nice little chat with barista Cynthia about other local shops that offer similar options. Got the Cognitive Mushrooms functional latte with oat milk. Hope to come back when I'm in Coronado again.

The staff are extremely friendly! Service is slower but to be expected. It's a small shop. Extremely small footprint for the amount of people trying to be served. (Not their fault). The coffee is wonderful! Taste is on point! Burrito is wonderful! Great portion. Gluten free tortilla was good and crispy on one side. Sauce served with was really yummy! :)

quick service, yummy matcha protein donut and my vietnamese coffee was decent. i know this is not traditional vietnamese so this only comes with 2 shots and more of an iced latte. next time I would get something else. my boyfriends nitro was kind of light (taste wise and looks wise) and it was the one they recommended too. still gonna give them 5 stars because I think this is the only solid coffee choice in Coronado and if I were in the area I would come back to try something different.

Cool little coffee house with cold brews on tap, but I came in for a cappuccino as I prefer traditional hot coffee in the morning. I didn't expect the cappuccino to have a prominent chocolate flavor from the beans. Truly a remarkable cappuccino. I ended up buying a few bags of coffee to go and a cool cap to sport around. And the barista was very cool and knowledgeable. He gave a sample of cold brew from tap. Really cool you can try before you buy. Worth a stop and do more than just smell the coffee when in Coronado. read more

I was so excited to try some coffee from an independent shop. Because of the latish hour, I got 3/4 decaf and a quarter regular cold brew-- delicious and still had plenty of caffeine. I haven't had a donut since high school---because it is perhaps one of the worst thing you could eat. When I saw that they not only had keto donuts but were infused with protein, I HAD to try one. I was hesitant about trying the coconut one with a chocolate drizzle, because I thought it would taste too sweet. Much to my pleasant surprise-- it wasn't! Yay! Wow-- it was so delicious! Really disappointed in this spot after multiple attempts to give them the benefit of the doubt. The overall atmosphere and attitude of the workers are Awsome but there coffees are not Good! I tried the cans from fridge and they lack flavor. Their peanut butter and banana keto, I was so stoked for only to be let down had tasted very bitter and nasty not even one sip of peanut butter and banana flavor in my mouth such a let down i had to toss it in trash . Tried their taps. Same thing and their keto bagles. Got the jalapeño chedder. Ewww it tasted spongey and grosss. I know they mean good but I'm sorry I rather stick to Dark Horse or hawthorn coffee at least their cold brews are on point :). read more

Let me start off by saying the only coffee I drink is cold brew so I was very excited to try this place when traveling to SD. I was not let down. Small little shop but the cold brew was the best I've ever had (and I've had a ton). I ordered the Trident cold brew and it was so smooth. I swung by after a run and had a great experience! It was my first time in their newly opened space and I was immediately greeted by the girls inside. Since it was my first time with so many cold brew choices on tap, I spoke to the girl ( I'm sorry I didn't get her name ) and answered her questions about the type of coffee and taste I like. From there she was able to recommend a cold brew for me to try. And she was spot on! It was super delicious and incredibly smooth. I was sold! If you are going to open a coffee shop two store fronts down from Starbucks you better bring your A game. How is it so hard for mom and pop shops to brew a decent cup of coffee?! I ordered a dark roast from this place and received a cup of luke warm milk. I went back in and very politely asked for a different coffee and the dude came back with an americano, also week asf, albeit hotter. Come on guys. Figure it out. Excellent cold brew. Got the lavender latte which was simply smooth and rich in flavor. Top 3 cold brews I have had in San Diego. Will be back next time to try out the other cold brew speciality they have here. In addition , they have protein donuts which looks fantastic. This is my favorite coffee shop in Coronado. As a veteran I love supporting veteran owned businesses. The shop is very clean and and the decorations are very sleek. I've been waiting for this place to open since I saw the "Coming Soon" sign a few months ago, and I'm happy to say it has lived up to the expectations I had based on how great I heard their Imperial Beach location is. We stopped in yesterday to try out some coffee and tea. This was my second or third time in the shop and both were impressive. Michael was very helpful and recommended a hot chai tea latte. I got the chai tea latte with oat milk and it was delicious. It was not too sweet but I could taste all of the chai flavors. We also got the damn the torpedoes nitro cold brew. This was really great and well-balanced. It came with a strawless lid with a sippy top. The store was super cute and very clean. They had a bunch of tasty looking pastries that I will have to try next time. If you are walking down Orange Avenue you definitely need to stop in and grab a coffee. They also have a bunch of canned coffee options to take to go. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Eric J.

Serving as a Naval Officer, Eric Johnson started brewing his own cold brew coffee during his final tour of duty in Iraq. He noticed how coffee and tea act as a bridge between cultural differences. All of the chaos of conflict would pause between him and village elders for a brief moment while enjoying a nice cup of coffee or tea together. Two cultures born a world apart were communicating on so many levels without saying a word- that was it! Eric had found his calling and thus set out to create Trident Coffee Roasters.

When I finally made it to the register the employee said "we are pretty backed up it'll be about a 25 minute wait on food or espresso drinks". You're kidding. I was forced to order a hot coffee (which I never drink - not bad actually) to save time and get back to my business. As I was leaving the customer who had chatted with the barista for 20 minutes and wasted everyone's time got BACK IN LINE! If there are events in the area you need to STAFF ACCORDINGLY. Get your act together, this is an embarrassment to the Bird Rock name.

I had a truly disappointing experience at Trident Coffee. The place was not only unkempt, but I also noticed flies buzzing around, which was quite off-putting. The coffee itself was mediocre at best--definitely not worth the trip. To make matters worse, the service was incredibly slow and indifferent. It seemed like the staff couldn't care less about the customers or their experience. I won't be returning and would recommend looking elsewhere if you're craving a good cup of coffee. read more

What a COOL spot to stop at on Orange Ave! I love that they offer healthy pastry options like keto donuts AND nitro cold brew from the tap. It was awesome to see a one of a kind place that offers SO many coffee options. They even have home-made sugar free syrups to make yummy lattes. The nitro has such a smooth taste!
