This is a brewery I was excited to try for a while. For the last few years I have seen them at the tumwater brewfest. When we made our trip to matchless I wanted to check these guys out as well, but I had no idea where they were located, lucky for us as we looked them up they were directly behind matchless brewing and were able to walk right over there. The beer is solid, the owner/brewer is awesome and very friendly. Plus he is killing the music scene by playing some old school rap. It was an awesome experience and I am happy to say he put up with us not only playing board games, but us being quite loud playing board games. It was awesome and we will definitely visit again in the future. Edit: I remembered something a moment after posting, not really part of a review, but a thought I had the day after thinking about Triceratops. I think the owner really missed a good beer pun opportunity in not calling it tricerahops!! Just a thought and feel free to use that one!!

I've known about Triceratops Brewing for a year or two. For some time they distributed their beer mostly just around the Olympia area at restaurants and pubs. I looked at their Facebook page to see where it was on tap and had an IPA and simply loved it! So I was SO excited when I found out that Triceratops got their own taproom! I made a weekend trip to Olympia and wanted to try their place out asap! At Triceratops I had two beers. I had the Hans Gruber Wheat which was great! Does the name Hans sound familiar? He was the main villain in the first Die Hard movie. The beer had an excellent bready taste and was perfect for the hot summer day that was upon us all. I had a second beer at Triceratops as well. It was the Pennsyltucky Lager. Lagers have been my beer of choice this summer and this lager did not miss the mark in the slightest. Another great beer made by Triceratops! The staff here was friendly which is always a big plus! I am so coming back here! Truly a delightful brewery!

Great new brewery in Olympia. It's literally right behind Matchless Brewing so you can stop by both. It's in an industrial space with some outdoor seating as well. It's also dog friendly. The taps seem to rotate frequently, lots of IPAs when I was there. I opted for the wheat ale which was good, not too hoppy. Overall, a good stop.

The brewery has been open for awhile and it has taken us a little while to get there to try it out. Very small, but good beers. Server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the beers. Tasted the wheat beer and a stout, both were really good. I ended up going with a cider from a local place that they had on tap and the Mr got the stout. We didn't stay long this visit, but we are happy we stopped by. Will visit again soon!

Excellent brewery! Rob is very knowledgeable, and I really enjoy his beers. Slushies are very tasty, and has great ciders from Whitewood.

Small little brewery behind Matchless in Tumwater. Fun place to go on a rainy day. Delicious beer and nice little space.

I always would go to their original location when visiting the Aberdeen area. I have been to this location twice now and both experiences were awesome. The first time here Steve and I split a stout which totally hit the spot. The second visit was just as spot hitting when we got the Rongo New Zealand Pilsner. Flavor features with this beer are crisp and perhaps a hint of orange. I am very excited to see New Zealand Pilsners becoming more common as the first time I had one I was totally impressed and it's great to see this beer type steadily getting more popularity. This is another great tenant to the Tumwater Craft District Market. You can easily spend an afternoon grazing off of the good food and drinks at this location and Mount Olympus really adds more of the fun to that.

I genuinely find it in bad form…read more Sometimes, though, a business does something- not necessarily good or bad - that bears mentioning for the benefit of the public. My wife and I had been looking forward to trying Hoh River Brewery since we moved to the area a few months ago. The South Sound's brewery game is *weak,* and Hoh seemed promising. So on a rainy day, we loaded up the family and some card games and headed to Tumwater for some beer and good times. We walked in at 2:00 pm on the dot on a Saturday. Literally no one else was patronizing the place at the time. As it happened, neither would we. We were immediately informed that the place is 21 and over only. Look, 21+ establishments are fine. Whether it's for compliance reasons or just because the owners want a spot free from kids for adults to relax in a quiet atmosphere, I get it. I don't think it's a smart business decision if you can avoid it, but I get it. My *problem* isn't with the policy. My problem is their lack of transparency about it. It should be on their website front and center, not under the "when to find us" tab with their hours. They should also, at the *very* least, have a sign on the door like a normal 21+ establishment so you don't even walk in with kids. We didn't see a sign before or after entering, and if there just had been some warning, I wouldn't be writing this. As an example, here is the text from an event on Facebook: "Heads up, Tumwater and Olympia -- we're heading your way! Mark your calendars for 12/10 and join us for our pre-order pick-up event where we bring the best of our bakery to you! Swing by to pick up your order and indulge in a wide selection of refreshing lagers, delightfully smooth sours, and more from our friends at Hoh River Brewery " (This was I believe written by a guest vendor, but just an example of when mentioning age restrictions wouldn't hurt.) Here is from their FB page header: "Craft brewery in Tumwater with Hoh River connections. Combined taproom with a distillery." On their business website, there is no mention of age restrictions until you get to the "when to find us" page. There are plenty of family-friendly breweries/taprooms in the area (we went to Triceratops Brewing after being rejected here), so it isn't weird for us to expect that here. And again, I'd be fine with them being 21+ only IF THEY WERE UP FRONT ABOUT IT SO I DIDN'T DRIVE 20 MINUTES TO GET THERE! This review is a heads up to readers, and a plea to the owners to be more up front about the restrictions on Facebook and their website. It's naive at best and rude and idiotic at worst.

This brewery is a collaboration effort with South Puget Sound Community College's craft brewing and distilling programs. So you can try craft beer options, cider options and distilling options. We stuck to mostly trying the beer that they had to offer which was a Bohemian Pilsner and their Pale Ale. We decided we like the the Pale Ale the best between the two and from the person that took our order seemed to indicate that that was the usual general consensus from customers in regards to the beer. As far as things to eat they have snacky types of things of a more fancier sort. We got some bread with oil and olives but you can also get things like a charcuterie board as well among other menu options. The size of the portions are perfect if you are snacking around the Tumwater Craft District building trying out different things and don't want a big meal in one sitting. The beer itself is alright. I have definitely had beer with more personality but knowing what the set up is I guess I should adjust my standards accordingly.
