After going through two of them in just a few years I decided to go back to FWT. The cost of the system is definitely higher than the big box units, but I anticipate this will equal out as I only got four years out of my Whirlpool. The installation is much improved over the original Whirlpool setup, much cleaner and less cluttered. Instructions after install were clear, the water was tested prior to leaving, and suggestions were provided for the best type of salt to use. The alkaline water tap is always delicious and refreshing, and the tap doesn't bubble and spit out the water after the initial tank dump like the other brands. The ice it makes tastes like the ones that come out of the fancy craft ice makers. There are no hard water spots or mineral deposits in the sinks, shower glass, and dishwasher. And the bonus is that there are no softener salts that can burn your plants. They come out once a year for maintenance and only charge you for whatever filters you need. My California home was just checked for maintenance, but no filters were needed so it didn't cost me anything. I highly recommend this product, their customer care, and their service team.
