My husband takes two showers a day. He's super clean obviously but more importantly this habit…read moreallows him to be super on top of most water issues. Thusly last night I came to find him laying upon our kitchen floor attempting (unsuccessfully) to keep the water heater pilot light lit. He told me he had attempted his evening wash-up but quickly realized the hot water was, well....not so hot. By the time I'd awaken today, he had already reached Jose at 5 Star Plumbing and Drains via yelp "request for services" Jose came to our home to access the problem. After hearing the totality of our dealings with the finicky water heater he suggested a few possible solutions. We decided to fully replace the unit. This consultation happened at 2pm. By 6pm we had a fully new unit, clean, dry, working. So obviously I haven't seen my husband for a "hot" minute as he's "testing" the shower water but we both expect to see Jose on Tuesday to install the water softener we had been wanting. All joking aside Jose was timely, knowledgeable, cost efficient, fast, respectful and self sufficient. He was easy to understand and communicated very well (we non plumbers could easily grasp his point). In these days of COVID he also was extremely careful about not touching anything in our homes and wore several different pairs of gloves. I can't wait for softened water..Florida water has robbed me of my "Calgon"moments. I'll update my review from my (hopefully) very bubbly, bubble bath Wednesday after our water softener install. If you are in need of a plumber try supporting local small businesses. Jose @ 5 Star Plumbing was great!

Alvarez Plumbing has serviced our home twice in the last year, for two unrelated issues. Our most…read morerecent technician, Jacob Fox, came to service our A/C unit. They are very reliable and do great work.

Update review: responding to the owner…read more I want to correct several points in this response because your company's internal notes do not accurately reflect what occurred in our home. First, I have never disputed that the capacitor tested poorly and needed replacement. That is not the issue. The issue is how the overall service was presented. We called for an intermittent ticking noise while our AC was cooling properly. Multiple components were presented as the solution associated with that concern, yet the original noise was not properly identified or resolved. That distinction matters. Second, your statement regarding the refrigerant does not reflect what was communicated to us. My husband knew the price per pound. Cost was not the reason he limited the refrigerant. He specifically asked your technician how much refrigerant the system needed, and the technician responded that he did not know and told my husband to tell him when to stop. My husband stopped him at two pounds because he was being asked to authorize an unknown quantity without being given a clear target. We strongly dispute any documentation suggesting otherwise. Third, although your technician mentioned a possible leak and used electronic detection equipment, no leak was located. Your own subsequent visit also failed to locate a leak. The independent company we hired has likewise been unable to identify the leak your original technician suspected. That company has had to continue diagnosing and monitoring the system. Saying that additional refrigerant was later provided "at no charge" also does not erase our concern about how the original service was handled. By that point, our home was experiencing cooling problems that did not exist before the original appointment, and our family had already incurred additional expenses, including two nights in a hotel with our minor child. Regarding the signed paperwork, this is also part of our dispute. The documents were presented electronically and scrolled through for signatures. The technician's detailed narrative was not individually reviewed with us before signing. Therefore, repeatedly referring to a signature does not resolve our disagreement about what was actually said and communicated during the appointment. We have never asked Alvarez for financial gain. We asked for a reasonable refund so that we could apply those funds toward properly addressing the system with the company now assisting us. We were even willing to discuss Alvarez retaining the reasonable cost of components that were actually necessary. I understand that Alvarez chooses to stand behind its technician and internal documentation. We stand behind what actually occurred in our home. Those are two different accounts, and repeating the company's notes publicly does not make our experience untrue. We contacted your company for a noise not because our home was hot or because our AC had stopped cooling. What followed was a confusing, sales-driven experience, disputed documentation, refrigerant added without a clearly communicated target, additional service visits, additional expenses, and ultimately a loss of confidence in your company. We attempted to resolve this privately and requested what we believed was a reasonable resolution. Alvarez declined. At this point, I will not continue debating the same facts publicly. I stand by my review and my account of our experience. Any remaining dispute can be addressed through the appropriate consumer-protection and dispute-resolution channels.

I decided to try and replace my shower cartridge on my own last week. I've become pretty handy. But…read morebeing that it was 20 years old and very stuck, I spent my whole day off wrestling with it just to have to break off. By then It was 4:00 on a Friday and I started to panic. My wife would be home soon from work and I couldn't turn the water back on until it was fixed. I started calling plumbers just in case. Most weren't answering phones, were out of service, or couldn't get to me until Monday. I tried True Plumbers first and was put on hold. I waited a couple of minutes and no one picked up. So I hung up and called other plumbers. After not getting any good answers, I tried them again. They had one of their plumbers call me. Josh was working on a job in Lakeland, but said he could come out to me that evening. I talked to him about what was going on and what I was doing to fix it. He told me I was on the right track. He encouraged me to keep doing what I was doing (because it was exactly what he would have to do). And for him to do it, I'd have to pay the service fee + parts and labor. Not cheap that time of the day or week. Lucky for me, my wife got home and saw I was totally exhausted and frustrated. She took over trying to get the rest of the cartridge out. Josh told me to check back in with him in the meantime if we needed him. He was still planning on coming later if we couldn't do it. Probably a good hour later, my wife got the rest of it out. Let me tell you we shared a huge high five and there was much cheering in that shower! lol I called Josh back and let him know we did it and he didn't need to come over. But I was so grateful for his advice. Sometimes you just need someone to tell you you're doing it right. If we have any other plumbing issues, I'll call them again for a quote.

They charged me around $340 dollars to hook up the fridge water line to the wall. One of the two…read moreplumbers was very unprofessional and disrespectful. Had a new fridge put in and the guys who put in the new fridge said they couldn't touch the water line of the old fridge and that the valve from the wall needed to be replaced so that the water line from the new fridge could be connected, and to call plumbers for that. We called them and they arrived an hour earlier than their estimated time range. Long story short, the plumber guy said replacing the valve in the wall wasn't necessary and the hose from the valve could be connected to the new fridge. He said this to me like I was a moron, which I don't know much about plumbing, so I'm probably a moron when it comes to that stuff. But the way he said it and looked at me rubbed me the wrong way. He then puts a fitting thing on the fridge hose and connects it to the valve hose coming from the wall. It takes him maybe a minute to do this. He tells me it's gonna cost $340 or something close to that. I ask why so much for having done so little, he said he had to drive forty minutes and says it like it makes total sense and I'm the idiot for asking such a stupid question. I will never use their services again.

Wouldn't really recommend Greg's MTBW for your water system/softener needs…read more We asked Greg's to take a look at our water softener when we were having issues with brown, high iron water. He recommended we change out the digital meter and switch to an analog one. We weren't sure how that would fix our water problem but for $200, we did it. Greg and his employees assured us he has 30 years of experience in the business so he knows. Turns out he didn't really know because it didn't much fix our water. The softener is less than 5 years old. We continued to have brown water and then cloudy. After asking Greg's to come back out and assess our cloudy water, he suggested we either buy a new system from him for $1800 or replace the minerals in it for $400. We were told those were our only options. We also opted to have Greg and his company handle our salt replenishment since we figured he would also take care of our system too. That's if he could get the schedule right to show up to fill the salt. We never knew when he was showing up and if the salt was actually being replenished. We live on a property with multiple other homes he also services. Instead of refilling our salt along with all the other homes, we were left without salt in our system for at least a couple weeks. When we called and asked, we were told they were behind and could get to us in 3 days. Not grouping multiple houses on the same property together for service just shows lack of common sense. In the end, we dropped the service, which was really just a convenience and I can refill my own salt. He didn't really fix our system or maintain it. He just tried to sell us stuff and up-charged on salt. You can take your chances but they will likely try to sell you things you may not need and the salt replenishment is a hit or miss.
