I've been going to Tribe for many years now, and with certainty I can share what truly sets this studio apart is Janelle. She is a positive, motivational leader who pushes you to give your best each and every class. She is knowledgeable about technique and form, and cares deeply about your progression. The studio offers a great balance of cardio and strength training with both spin and TRX classes offered. Each and every session leaves me feeling exhausted and sweaty, yet stronger and motivated to come back-- and push myself further the next time. I was super psyched to come across Tribe on Yelp. I had been missing the "boutique spinning studios" in NYC, and Tribe definitely tries to fit that mold. I attended Christopher's class. He had great energy and good music, including a super awesome house track during the cool down. He did most of the class in a "standing" position (out of the saddle) and had lots of upper body toning moves throughout the 50 minute class. During set-up, everyone was really available to help set-up bikes, which I appreciated on these hydro-bikes. One thing lacking - I think it's helpful to be reminded about form throughout the class, especially as those working out are changing position a lot. For example, it's helpful to be reminded how to put your shoulders or how to orient your feet in the pedals. I was also a bit irked by the set-up of the whole studio. The entrance way is cute but way too small to accommodate a finished class and a new class about to switch places into the bike room. Also, the two bathrooms, where you can change, are across the bike room, so you need to wait until the previous class is over to rush and get changed. Overall, Tribe fills a part of me that I left in NYC, and I am super grateful for that! read more

This place is the BEST! My roommate and I are in love with tribe!!! Hands down, we LOVE Janelle..she is such a incredible motivator and we cannot believe how fit we have become (I am down 12lbs!!!!...plus it is a much needed mental release!!) Ashley & Maura are also two of our other faves but the entire staff is great! I was really nervous to get back into working out & have been to some gyms where I have felt very uncomfortable. Not tribe though! They are super welcoming, and really good with modifications and understanding past injury limitations which I really appreciate (especially Janelle). I cannot rave about this place enough!!! There is something really special about tribe! I noticed in some other posts that there was confusion about wiping bikes after class..the staff cleans the bikes and the mats/weights after every class which is why we don't do it ourselves. This isn't the YMCA...they told us the staff does this on our first day when we arrived...plus with the prices we pay I would hope we would not have to clean our own equipment..so thank you tribe staff!! I am super appreciative that I can get ready for work here too.. it is a game changer for me since I work two minutes from the gym but live about 20 mins away. There is plenty of space to change and lay out makeup & clothing plus they have hairdryers in the changing rooms. I just can't get enough of this place‼ I have never been a fan of spin, until now. I'm sooooo pro spin and such an advocate of Tribe. The staff are always very pleasant and greet you with smiles that are infectious. When I walk in, I'm known by name which makes you feel like you are apart of the Tribe family. I've taken a few classes with Richard and I'm just addicted to his style. He is so bomb.com and #awesomesauce. I can't say enough great things about him. His voice is now imbedded in my head with any workout I do. Hearing "WORK IT... OWN IT!!", makes me work 10x's harder!! People are quite tired of me bragging about Tribe that now a few have decided to come and check out what the rave is all about. Pretty disappointed in the cancellation policy. Tried to call 4 hours in advance and weren't open despite being told that is the reason why they couldn't cancel. I don't live anywhere near this place. Was going to take a class with my girlfriend but she wound up being sick. I have no intention of coming back here. The woman at the desk just assumed I was going to take another class and wasn't helpful. I would like my $47 back. Hopefully management sees this and actually does something about it. Tribe is my home away from home and there is no chance I would ever consider switching to a different spin studio. I joined Tribe just over two years ago to get into shape for my wedding, and I've taken over 100 classes since then. My first class happened to be on Christmas Eve, and the instructors decorated the studio and brought a box of mini donuts for us to enjoy after our ride. I'm sure you're thinking that this is counterintuitive, but Tribe isn't just about a workout. Tribe is about motivating each other and ultimately becoming a #tribefam who can get through a tough workout together, but also enjoy a treat afterward together. Knowing that I'm not on this journey alone keeps me coming to class day after day. Each member of this family, but especially Bre, Janelle, and Ashley, are warm and welcoming. I never used to be a morning person, but these girls are the reason I drag myself out of bed and get to those 7 a.m. classes (and the reason I come to class rather than happy hour at night). During the class itself, the instructors encourage you and explain each movement step by step to make sure you're not putting any unneeded stress on your body. I have never left class feeling anything other than empowered and uplifted, and I encourage anyone looking for that same type of motivation to try a class. You won't be disappointed! read more

A great full body workout with the BEST music! Classes are never the same, even with the same instructor. My favorites are Tiffany, Ashley, and Janelle but I haven't tried everyone's class yet. Janelle's classes are definitely the hardest but the great thing about spin is that if things are too hard or too easy you can just adjust the gear on the bike. They layout of the studio is very unique with just two long rows of bikes across from one long mirror. You really do feel like part of a Tribe watching yourself and keeping the beat with your neighbors, especially during those hand weight songs! Another tip that no one has mentioned yet is that you don't need to buy or rent cycling shoes for classes! You can just strap in your sneakers. Rarely do they close for holidays which is awesome. They were open almost everyday through xmas and new years. read more

Ashley simply just kills it. Every. Single. Time. Her playlists, her choreography, and most of all - she just brings such a genuine energy to the studio that really motivates me to push myself harder and keep coming back. You can tell she puts a lot of time in preparing for each class and really loves what she instructing. I haven't been a member of Tribe for that long (~2 months), but I absolutely love the vibe and the energy I get from such a great workout and the positive, supportive environment. Also love Janelle and Shelley. Every instructor here brings something unique to their classes and it's what keeps me coming back. I dropped in for a workout here and had a decent experience. The workout was good but it was slightly more dance-y than other spinning workouts i have been to. The lights are completely off and they focus on the dancing part than form (since you cant really see the teacher to make sure your form is correct). There was little indication whether you should be in position 2 or 3. The songs also started out pretty good but half way through it was a little struggle - but the instructor was really upbeat and tried to keep everyone moving. read more

I'm from out of town, and I usually take a similar style of class in San Diego. I have to say I was not impressed with this facility. There was stuff everywhere and it just looked messy. I was also a little turned off that no one was prompted to wipe down the bikes after the class and overall the facility needs some organization and cleanliness. However, the class was challenging and I did enjoy the instruction. read more

Fantastic new place in West Hartford Center. I am new to spinning, but everyone at Tribe was so welcoming and excited to explain how it works and what to expect. Carly, the assistant manager, was very helpful in booking the class and assigning me to a bike- as well as showing me around the studio and what not. The classes are packed- but the instructors still find time beforehand to help you adjust your bike and get comfortable. One of the instructors, Janelle, is super inspiring and enthusiastic, and guides you during the class as to what gear you should be in. The music was the kind that pumps you up and makes you want to work and sweat! The equipment is state of the art, with monitors to track your RPMs, heart rate, calories, etc. The variety of times of classes are perfect- several in the morning, a few in the evening. I'm looking forward to trying classes from different instructors and seeing what they have to offer. I enjoyed my first class so much so that I bought a small package of classes. If you're looking to get into shape in the new year you won't regret trying Tribe! read more

Started going to the 545 am class a couple of weeks ago and have loved the classes. All of the instructors bring a ton of energy to the class, the music is great, and all of the staff is amazing. From the time you walk in and are greeted by the staff, they know your name and make you feel extremely welcome. The classes are energetic and challenging, but very inclusive to all fitness levels, and the collegial atmosphere always makes me feel welcome, and refreshed an energized when leaving. Lastly, I have been or belonged to many gyms and it is rare to find a gym with the highest quality equipment and a super clean environment. Sparkling clean, stylish, perfection. Bikes are sleek, comfortable, illuminated bike monitor reflects heart rate (if wearing sensor), RPMs, watts, cals, time, gear. Helpful when instructors like Jill let you know to be in 16th gear and RPMs shouldn't exceed 57-63 or so. Music is spot on (lots of top 40), creating synergy, which keeps you going when you're ready to give up. Studio is well ventilated and spacious, floor to ceiling mirrors reflect why exactly you're here (it's great to see yourself sweat and have a red face). Working out our arms and core while legs keep spinning is genius, efficient whole body workout. Pricing is affordable and the packages are a steal. Bought the annual unlimited. Complimentary fruit and water cooler at the front during this opening special really makes it feel like a luxury establishment and I couldn't think of a single improvement. AMAZING new cycling studio in the heart of WH center. There is a free parking lot which is a huge luxury for the center. Bikes are brand new and top of the line. They are staggered so you have plenty of space and are not bumping into the person next to you. Registration is online and super easy or you can call or show up at the studio for help. Fantastic workout all around. The instructors are so motivating and the atmosphere is very friendly. From day one I was greeted with my first name and even get shout outs during class! I started with the 545am class and I've never, NEVER, started my day off better than coming here for a work out. I am truly energized and focused the rest of the day. Recently I've had to adjust my schedule and go in the evenings. same fantastic vibe. What strikes me most is that we don't just workout our bodies, but get motivated to focus our brains. There is always some mental component and it's nice to sort of have some one motivate you to either relax (in the evenings) or get ready to start your day (in the mornings). I hadn't ever experienced that at a gym before. Just a tip- there is a bathroom but that's it. There isn't really a changing area either. I come in all changed and I leave by putting my second top layer on and walking out (it's winter). Don't expect to get cleaned up while there. BUT there is free parking which is hard to come by in west Hartford. There is a giant lot in the back if you don't see a spot up front. On thanksgiving we even got some Starbucks coffee =). read more

As a Spinning instructor I was excited to try the new spin (pun intended) on indoor cycling and this studio didnt disappoint. Janelle and Kelly are AWESOME. Every class, whether there's 3 people or 30, has so much energy and enthusiasm. The music is always great, and every class gives a great full-body workout. read more

BEST workout in West Hartford hands down. My roommate and I are loyal Tribe-ers and love everything about this place. When I moved here I was looking for something to fill the Soul Cycle void in my routine, and Tribe is it (and more). The staff is so welcoming and the instructors are first-class. Janelle and Richard's classes are my favorite, but they definitely fill up fast (especially the 5:30pm). Make sure to add yourself to the wait list even if a class is full though - bikes usually open up before class starts. Great music, great bikes, overall great environment to put in some serious work. The facility can get a little crowded, but they're expanding! Can't wait to watch Tribe grow with this new renovation. read more

I haven't taken any barre classes, so this review is just for the spin classes. I really couldn't decide between three or four stars, but since I'll probably come back during the holidays when my normal place for working out is closed, I decided on four stars. Overall, the place is fine. I do like the spin studio in New Haven/Branford more, only because there is a little more light in the studio and they hand out cold and moist towels at the end of the ride, which is really refreshing just at the right moment. Pro's of this studio: - Shower area (for those of us going to work after a workout its a necessity) - Decent music (but way too loud and just like most PW spin studios... boring) - Challenging classes (but see the more elaborate comment below about the classes .....) Con's of this studio: - Way to dark - good luck trying to find your bike. And that becomes a problem if you are trying to keep proper form while holding dumbells or just trying to make sure you keep proper form while on the bike. - Too much focus on speed and dance moves. There was no mention of form and too much focus on the speed you should be moving, which was fairly unsafe and unattainable (there were moments I rolled my eyes during class because what the teacher said we should be at was ridiculous). But I should also add that I'm seeing this focus on speed at a fair number of studios (including the one in New Haven that has pointless leader boards) - its not specific to this studio. - Confusing and impractical layout not set up for people to move easily and change clothes easily. In my hunt for the bathroom, I encountered a woman looking for the water. In my week there I never actually saw where the water was (why wasn't it in the front?). Practical things like there was no hook on the back of the door to hang clothes up in the showering room because there is not enough counter space to lay out your clothes and toiletries (and there is no bench inside of the room so either you walk out to an open area that people of both genders are going to be walking through or you do what I did which was lay things on the floor and on my bag and I also opted to just wear sundresses and put on my suit at work). To the reviewer who wondered about wiping down the bikes, I noticed after showering and changing that staff members go through and wipe down the bikes and clean up in between classes. read more

After about 12 visits (though I missed some check-ins), I suppose it's about time I wrote a review. I can't say enough about this place and 12 visits in a little over a month is proof. The equipment is top of the line, the instructors are TOP notch and make you feel empowered, strong, and excited from start to finish, and the team (or "tribe") vibe makes you give that extra push every time. Yes, the studio is on the smaller side but I say it just makes you feel that much more inspired by your neighbor. It is a spin "boutique"- so you're definitely paying for the extra effort they put in to the routines and ambiance (both physically and financially) but I feel like I get my money's worth every time! Kudos to Janelle and the rest of the Tribe team for the most upbeat, killer workout every time. Always looking forward to my next ride with the Tribe! read more

This is a spinning class... Stationary bikes. I never thought this would take. I was so out of shape. But after three weeks and 10 sessions I am able to keep up. The online booking makes it easy, the instructors are given a great deal of flexibility to put together their own programs so each session is different, you don't get bored but man do you get a good workout. There was no undo pressure and lots of encouragement. After the third class the pain went away and now I look forward tot he class. I'm 53 but the class have a good age spread from your to old. read more

This was my very FIRST time trying spin classes anywhere. But, it was AWESOME!!! Tribe's website is super easy to use and allows you to pay for and schedule classes with the click of a button. You even get to select your bike in advance so you can make sure to always sit where you want. Nice! I signed up for a beginners cycling class online which met on a Sunday morning. When I got to Tribe, there were plenty of team members on hand to help set up bikes to the proper height, etc, which was super helpful, since I was a bit intimidated as a newbie to cycling. Our instructor, Janelle (awesome name!), was really really good. She introduced us to the moves and got us working hard. I never felt like I was being yelled at (I don't like that kind of "motivation"), but I did feel like I was being encouraged to do my personal best throughout the whole class. Janelle & the pumping music definitely kept the class upbeat and fun. The only drawback is the parking situation -- as the parking lot where Tribe is located is limited to only 30 minute parking and the classes are 45 minutes long. No big deal though, as you can easily park for free on nearby side streets. Looking forward to going back soon! read more

I heard about Tribe from a few girls in my barre class. I went my first time with a girl from barre and her husband (who has been going for a while now). I wasn't sure what to expect but the staff was really friendly and helped me set my bike up (in fact they ended up helping me all week; didn't know what I was doing). The cycling studio also has free towels for use which comes in handy (trust me you will need at least two). Several times the instructors made sure everyone was set up before that class began which was nice! I felt very comfortable. I did the 1 week trial so I got to sample a few of the instructors. I have since gone another 10 or so times. I thought maybe there was an "easy" instructor but every class I went to was tough, in a good way. This is especially true about Janelle, the owner's classes which I found the most intense. I've also gone to Richard, Ashley and Casey's classes which was also fantastic. I love "feeling it" and the energy all the instructors bring. I would highly recommend if you want a fun fast pace workout that leaves you a sweaty mess. My only complaint would be there aren't enough fans/ventilation (I also couldn't figure out how to turn one on), so it can get quite hot especially in warmer months. read more

I really love the instructors at tribe. I can only get into the groove if i have inspiring instructors who play booty shaking music. Jonathan is my favorite spin instructor-- he keeps your mind and body busy the entire time. I've also taken classes with Richard, who i think is also terrific. My only complaints is the lack of ventilation/fans throughout the room. it really wouldn't cost much to put a few fans on the ceiling or against the wall--just do it already. Their prices are a bit steep for me, especially since it's only a cycling studio. I like to buy rides by the class as I won't go more than 2x week. If you have the money, it's totally worth it.
