I'm sure the class is supposed to be for people needing a good stretch for tired muscles but I use it as a 'self care' relaxation class. When I leave, I feel refreshed and ready to take on the rest of the week. The best part of the class is that Kristin (the usual instructor) starts every class by saying that if you just want to lay on the floor or stay in child's pose for the entire hour you can - and she means it. This truly is a no-judgement class where you can do as much or as little as you want based on what your body (or mind) is telling you to do. I can't say enough great things about the class - definitely give it a try.

The location of this studio is perfect, you can take a walk before or after through old wethersfield. My friend and I went for brunch at heirloom market after. I've been to the West Hartford location of The Yoga Shop studios but this was my first time at this…read morelocation in Glastonbury and it was a step up from WeHa in my opinion. I believe this is one of the newer locations as well. The studio is gorgeous. Well decorated and they gave big windows that let in a lot of light. Their lobby area is spacious and has cubbies, changing rooms and bathrooms. They have complimentary tea and cookies that are delicious as well. I took the LivFree power UP class on Saturday morning. It's one of the longer classes at 90 minutes but the last 30 minutes of class ended up being more stretching/cool down. It's your typical vinyasa type yoga flows in a heated room. What I liked about this location over West Hartford was that the space didn't feel crowded at all. The room was really big and even though there were probably around 30 people in class, we all had more than enough room. All in all, a good yoga studio with some classic yoga classes. Definitely worth a try. And your first visit to any Yoga Shop location is free! Note: this location doesn't have a drinking fountain so you'll either need to bring your own water, get it from the tap or buy some.

Practicing in this studio feels like more of a privilege than a workout. But don't be misled; these classes are no joke. As an avid practicer of yoga, I leave each class dripping wet and feeling as though I truly worked every fiber of my body. Heads up: These classes are not for the faint of heart. Though I have brought beginners as guests, they have all found it to be too warm and too difficult. For me, however, this studio is perfection. The teachers are supportive and welcoming and all are masters of their craft. The owners, Annie and Kim, have built a wonderful, luxurious business and welcome all who enter. To top it off, as an educator, I was touched by their offer of unlimited classes for teachers this past summer at a very reasonable price of $200.

There are so many classes offered by a variety of teachers in a variety of different teaching styles. With all of the times and options offered, there's something to please every yogi. Most classes are an hour and fifteen minutes long. Their website is very user friendly and always up to date with the class schedule, a description of each class, and a bio about the instructor, which generally includes the experience level of the instructor and what got him or her into yoga in the first place. I've never had an issue with classes being too full, and if you don't have your own mat or other yoga props (blocks, belt, blanket), they have them there for use free of charge. The studio feels very welcoming and comfortable as a whole. There are two big rooms for classes and all of the staff are exceptionally friendly, helpful, and supportive of your individual yoga practice. The studio also offers teacher training, clinics, and some specialized classes, including one geared towards individuals dealing with MS. They are open 7 days a week. I'd highly recommend this yoga studio. The location is easily accessible (right off of route 2), convenient (across from the TJMaxx/Shoprite plaza, with its own parking lot), and between the number of classes and different teaching styles, you're guaranteed to find something you like that fits in your schedule.

This last weekend was their opening weekend. They offered a full weekend of free yoga classes. I wish I could have taken them all. The yoga teachers are all very friendly and knowledgeable. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. The massage therapist is excellent. He was giving free chair massages. Great technique and pressure. The studio spaces easily accommodated 30 people. Nice, new, and clean. After three days in a row at this place, I feel centered and blissed out. A nice oasis of peace in the middle if the frenetic world. Stop in and get your zen on today.

WHY offered a new student special - $20 for two weeks of unlimited yoga so I decided to try it out…read more The studio is nice and big inside, I like the high ceilings and not feeling like you're on top of each other. They also have a decent number of classes throughout the day, although no morning classes before 8am. The little shop had some cute items for sale too. I tried 3 different classes with 3 different instructors and didn't like any of them. For me, yoga is all about flowing in and out of poses, but these classes had very limited flow. For example in one class we were in happy baby and then she said stand up and go into warrior 1... typically an instructor would have you flow through different poses to get to warrior 1. It felt very choppy, overall just not my style yoga.

My friend and I attended one PowerUp session as a trial…read more 1) We found the other attendees and the instructors to be quiet unfriendly. Literally, not one person introduced him/herself. This is quite different from our experience elsewhere. 2) The warm room was perfect and allowed for us to really work and get into poses that we wouldn't have been able to in a colder setting. 3) It was impossible to hear the instructor over the loud music (Footloose and Staying Alive), which meant that we were continually looking up to see what we should be doing. Unfortunately, this caused my friend to pull a muscle in his neck and he had to leave in the middle. 4) The room was crowded. Not uncomfortably so, but enough that the instructor could not assist attendees as needed. Because there is no form correction from the instructor, I too found myself with neck/back pain the following day and went to my chiro for an adjustment. 5) The instructor called out poses and did not demonstrate. For less advanced yogis this amounted to less benefit than watching a video at home.

As a runner I know that stretching and lengthening are two things that I need to keep me on the…read moreroad but many times I fall off the bandwagon and end up paying the price. Over the winter - my husband (and running czar) must have realized this as he purchased me a 10 class card to Newington Yoga Center, located on the "main drag" of Newington. The yoga studio has a small waiting area when students can leave their bags, shoes, etc but a fairly large practice space. I am not very well versed in the different types of yoga but all of the teachers I have encountered have been helpful, gently moving me into the correct position or allowing me to practice how I am feeling that day. I might not get all the moves correctly or be able to lift myself off the ground in the lotus position (and believe me I have tried) but it has helped me work out the kinks, stretch and lengthen and more importantly leave feeling a sense of peace and centeredness I most times did not have before class.
