Lo and behold, the week I move back to Connecticut is the week that SolidCore West Hartford opens. Conveniently located in Blue Back Square, this studio is moderately sized. I like the two rows of reformers because it makes it easier to see around the room. The acoustics/layout of the studio is better than most in NYC. I've only been to a couple of classes so far (a bargain at $15 for their first couple of weeks before the grand opening) and I've found them to be just as good, if not better, than the NYC classes I'm used to. The instructors have been great with instruction, hands-on corrections, and encouragement. They've also been challenging classes that have left me sore for the rest of the day and part of the following. Really happy that this studio is now open - hope they decide to go on ClassPass, however, because I live too far for the all-access membership to make sense.

As more people arrived, they walked in with weights. I soon realized I had to grab my own. There was no one greeting or instructing us with this. The workouts were fine and the instructor was average. I did the intro class and it was so informative with an easy flow and great instruction. The best thing about Pilates is the total body workout and the reformer forces you to work your core like crazy!! While the intro class is free, classes are about $40 each with membership options ranging depending on frequency and location. Extremely knowledgeable instructors keep everyone motivated to work out with fun music and frequent routine changes. Class pace is quick and energizing, with lots of cardio, unlike some barre classes I've tried where you just ambiguously tuck your pelvis for a while. The studio has a cozy feel and is also a really functional space that doesn't get overcrowded because advance booking is required. Classes are definitely challenging (esp barre power) but the instructors always give examples of how to modify so that people of all fitness levels can succeed. Two years later, and I still love Barre 44. The new studio space is super-airy and light, but still manages to feel cozy and inviting. With the recently-added trampoline cardio class, good luck getting rid of me!

Then Susan opened Core Barre, and I joined, and it has been the best experience ever. The instructors Susan, Donna, Sarah, and now Liz are motivating, kind, and very tuned in to where you are at in your work out. There is a very warm accepting vibe, and the competition aspect is gone, so you can truly get the work out you need. I vote for Core Barre as the best place around not only for the expertise in fitness they have to offer, but the family friendly feel Susan and her instructors give to the place each and every time you go.
