We've been coming to Tri-Valley Ice since they first opened and love what they have to offer. Started off just taking advantage of their open ice times. My daughter took their ice skating classes for a few years and my sons been involved with their hockey program for five years now. The rinks here are a bit on the smaller side but it's cool that they have two which allows for way more activities than what Dublin Iceland offers. Seating to watch games/practice is probably their biggest downfall here. But on the flip side they have ample locker rooms, a pro shop (that also sharpens and molds skates), and a snack bar which also serves alcohol for those really long days at the rink.

    Buckets for Novices. Thank you!!

Came here today with my 2 young daughters age 7 and 10. The Yelp reviews guided my decision to try this place because my kids have never skated before and I'm not much better than them. It was everything I was hoping it would be. 2 rinks help keep the craziness to a minimum which i really appreciated as supervising my kids AND not falling on my #$$ was adding enough anxiety. Checking in was super easy, the gentleman behind the snack bar actually helped us get checked in AND helped us with our skates which was in a different part of the facility. Friendly and accommodating. Then we got our skates, and surprisingly they were in ridiculously nice condition. Mine looked like they had been worn maybe ONCE, the blades looked brand new. My kids' were also in nice condition. So kudos to Tri Valley for properly rotating and maintaining their skate inventory! We arrived at 2:50 for a 2:45 Public Skate Session and we're on the ice by 3pm which gave us an hour and 45 mins to skate. That was plenty of time for us beginners. They had large stackable orange buckets to use as balancing aids, we needed those. It was a Sunday and not super crowded so it was PERFECT for my kids. Another plus is they have a snack bar and sell adult beverages for those so inclined. Sports were on their 2 flat screens which I'm sure are also appreciated. No lockers but cubbies under benches are available for use. I think I read that in a review so I made sure to use my smaller bag that I could keep with me while skating. The vibe was positive and it felt like a safe environment for my kids. The ONLY negative was actually outside of the facility. When we were driving into the lot there were about 10 young kids that looked like they had just finished and they were playing BALL in the middle of the lot. They didn't seem too concerned about other cars needing to park so didn't really get out of the way when cars approached. Not sure if the adults present were their supervision but they also seemed pretty lackadaisical about parking lot safety. But not really a fault of the rink operators, just not a great first impression. I'm glad it was totally the opposite inside. We will definitely return. My younger daughter wants to have her birthday here. They have party packages as well! Our visit was $12.50 a person (kids and adults ) for rink entrance and skate rental. Oh, and another $4 times 3 to the DIPPING DOTS VENDING MACHINE. HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR YOUNG NEW SKATERS AND FAMILIES

    Great Deal!!

Great idea of 2 rinks instead of 1 giant. My kids can fall in peace while hockey guys slapshot it up on the other side. Buckets are a great idea. And people were friendly and staff was helpful. Refreshments are plentiful and prices are Good.

This place needs a remodel. Clogged toilets, absent staff. Looks like an abandoned warehouse. Nowhere for spectators to sit.

Ask the Community - Tri Valley Ice

Can we bring a pre sign waiver or do we have to sign it at the rink?

I brought a pre-signed one when we went and they accepted.

How much do the Learn to Skate sessions cost? I couldn't find a price on the website.

It's $145 for 8 sessions. Sample schedule: Tuesday 4:45-5:30 pm Jan 8- Feb 26th. When you register, it will give you all the class schedules and cost. Hope this helps.l

There was no charge to skate, though the skating pass price of $12 posted online is not bad, especially without the $3 skate rental cost (since I have my own rollerblades). This place is quite simple. A small shoe cubbies storage unit against the wall, a few seats and tables outside the rink, a restroom in the back, socks and snacks (water, chips, gatorade) sold behind the counter, and friendly staff making everyone feel welcome. The rink had a smooth and sturdy surface, creating an ideal skating experience. It was surrounded by plexiglass, able to withstand the barrage of kids crashing into the walls. Tiny disco balls hung from the ceiling, along with colorful decorative string lights. Mainly hip hop and rnb music played through the speakers, a song list including Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder, I Want To Be Your Man by Zapp, and Don't Stop Til You Get Enough by the king of pop. The skating rink was small but never felt crowded. There was plenty of space to glide freely, and it was easy to dodge the kids. Even the skate aids didn't take up a lot of space or get in the way. It was a pleasant experience, a carefree atmosphere with everyone just having a good time. Skate Escape was a great option for a rainy day activity to enjoy while in the area.

Pro Shop: There aren't many options for figure skates or hockey skates so I would say these are tailored to beginners. I was hoping I could come and have someone help determine my skate size since I have no idea what it should feel like and they were pretty much just asking if it was comfortable without much other guidance. However, the guy helping us really was extremely patient, never pressured us and was honestly such a sweetheart. This is easily one of the most interesting places in SF, hands down. We had a chance to pay our respects by way of celebrating my best friend's birthday here. What a find...! We purchased tickets on Eventbrite a few weeks in advance. Our session was 4:30-6:00 pm. Onsite, we rented skates for $5. No half sizes, but my 8.5 feet fit in a 9 just fine. Decked out with disco lights, the church glows vibrantly against the backdrop of its stained glass windows. Music of all eras reverberates through the high ceilings, a welcome greeting to all. I didn't realize that we were graced with the presence of the Godfather of Skate, D. himself! I should have done my research earlier. He casually swung by, in full purple regalia, and gave my struggling newbie self some tips. Within 10 mins, I was skating without shaking at all??? I never got to properly thank him...! Walnut Creek On Ice - Inner Tube Slide was so fun

We visited for the first time yesterday & overall had a fun 90 minutes…read more I chose this spot for my 4 year olds first ice skating experience as they had the kids "walkers" to assist first timers. The ice slide also looked like a fun added bonus. Purchased tickets ahead of time and they made it easy to add to apple wallet, and also texted and emailed a copy of the tickets/QR code which was great for me, but might be difficult to access for anyone not smartphone savvy or access. Check in and getting our skates was easy enough, although I had to go back a second time because the young man gave me the men's size instead of the ladies, so I went to the young gal the 2nd time to the skate window and she remedied that for me. We had the combo ticket but decided to skate first as they don't guarantee skate sizes or walkers and I was able to get a walker for an added rental fee of $15 which I didn't mind but would have preferred if we could add this to our reservation because we really could not have skated without it. They have lockers for your belongings if needed, we just left our shoes under a bench and it was fine. We put our skates on and immediately they were very uncomfortable, they tighten down with three plastic belt paths (think roller blades) and on their website it specifically advised to wear tall socks but not thick socks, so that is what we did. The skates were immediately digging in hard on both mine and my friends inner ankle bone. So much so that after 10 minutes we were in agony and decided to take a break and try the ice slide with our littles. The ice slide was fun, they had 2 of the 3 lanes open and someone at the top monitoring each lane. The tubes were in at least 3 different sizes which was great but we did need to wait a bit to use a red tube which were the smallest size for the 4 year olds. In the meantime we used a larger tube and they let us tube with them (we also had a combo ticket) and the littles on our laps. My child was scared of the slide so only went a handful of times but there is a snack shack and tables adjacent so we got some hot cocoa and watched her friend. All in all this was a cute spot and we had fun, the rink is small but wasn't too crowded on a January Saturday, the layout, decor and staff were all great, but I will try somewhere else next time since the main goal was ice skating and the skates were just way too uncomfortable.
