I've been wanting to try this place since I heard about it. Sounded like a great concept and it's close to home. A few friends and I went on a Saturday afternoon when there was live music. We waited at the counter for a while before being noticed, got our cards and were shown how to use them. When we went to get glasses, I noticed some people had "flights" but there weren't any available. The hostess kindly went to find some for us. Although there were many beers to choose from, they all had low abv, and there were only 2 ciders. Despite the low abv, turns out my particular choices in beer were very expensive. For 32oz, my total was $30. I wasn't aware of this until my card was charged 2 days later, as I wasn't given an option for a receipt and there was (again) no one at the counter as we were leaving. I thought this had to be a mistake and emailed the owner but was told I chose expensive beer. I was also told the prices were clearly marked, however I don't see that in any of the photos I've looked at. My fault for not looking harder, and assuming I wasn't drinking beer at a dollar an ounce. I can't remember ever paying $15 for a pint of beer unless it was at Yankee stadium lol. I also regret that I dropped my card into one of the "tip" buckets, because I'm not sure what I was tipping them for? I did however get a receipt emailed to me for the food, which is paid for separately (and tipped separately). 3 of us ordered 3 appetizers, which were much smaller than expected and a bit overpriced, in my opinion. Before realizing how expensive the beer is here, I will say we did enjoy the experience and the ambiance of the bar. We originally planned on returning but that seems unlikely now. I'm pretty disappointed with what could have been a great place to meet up with friends

I had a first date at this location. It was nice as it wasn't terribly busy and we were able to sit on a couch in front of a cozy fire. When we walked in Michelle, the owner, explained the concept of Connecticut's first and only self serve Taproom. You have a card that you pre-pay and you put it in front of what you would like to pour and it keeps tabs and then at the end you drop it in a prepaid tip jar. It's a great concept but it is pricey. There's no sampling the beers as you are able to in a restaurant that would be the only downside. This location also serves food although we didn't eat.

    These are the self-serve taps.

New to Avon. Yummy food and engaged staff - not flirty but totally interested in their customers. My food was memorable - you don't say that very often. Definitely coming back.

Tri-It Taproom is a bit of heaven for the beer loving person who wants to try everything! It's the first self-pour taproom of its kind in CT. Here's how it works: it's a little like your laundry cards from college, they give you a card and you either attach a credit card to it, or put some cash on it, and you're ready to pour. Enter the tap area and start pouring. The taps are all self serve, so you can do a taste or a full pour. The screens above the taps give you a description of the beverage, alcohol content, and cost per ounce, and keep track of how much you've poured. The card makes you check in after 32 oz, a good policy! The taproom has a wall of 44 taps. There is absolutely something for everyone: 4 different types of wine, a few ciders and ton of local beers from blonde ales to hoppy IPAs. There's a menu of snacks and light fare to buy. The charcuterie board looked really good! The place itself is a little small, but they have some nice outdoor seating. This place is going to take off, catch it before it gets too crazy!

Great new place on Rt 44 in Avon, pour your own and try a few different ones. Easy parking, great seating indoor and out. Very helpful staff. We'll be back.

I love this place. Their concept is new to Connecticut and It's so refreshing. They had most of the local breweries on tap and the beer was nice cold! Not to mention the honey that sat next to me? Gorgeous!

We had a 630 reservation and we seated immediately. This restaurant is very attractively decorated, warm and cozy. One end of the room had a huge stone fireplace and we had a good view of the kitchen. We started with drinks and a terrific little bread basket of freshly baked bread that was topped with a butter infused with just a touch of cinnamon. That was really delicious. Our server took our entrée order of the Chatham Bay fish fry and short ribs of beef bourguignon. The fish and chips was very very good on the fish. Two large pieces of cod that were perfectly deep-fried in a thin but crunchy coating that was excellent. The shoestring fries were a little less impressive in the sense that they looked a bit industrial without a lot of character, but were passable. This dish would've been an 8 out of 10 if the fries had a greater degree of character. This was accompanied by a remoulade, malt vinegar. The short ribs of beef were exceptionally good and would have made Julia Child proud. Short ribs of beef slow cooked in red wine, onion, bacon, and mushrooms, accompanied by mashed potatoes, root veggies. For the two of us, $99. $120 with the tip. The service was prompt, polite, and professional. This was worth a second try.

The place was busy the whole time we were there, so I highly recommend making a reservation. Amazing service and delicious food! We dined on the outdoor patio. The food was fresh and came out fast. Their menu offers a variety of choices, including options that are gluten free, dairy free, and soy free. The women's restroom on the second floor was originally Abigail's bedroom. Heard it's haunted after 10pm by Abigail, the original tavern owner's wife who was murdered, haunts the place, but we didn't see any paranormal activities or ghosts. We would definitely come back and suggest you give this place a try if you are in Weatogue, CT and Simsbury, CT.

From time to time, servers share stories about setting up a room the night before, only to return the next day and find everything rearranged. There have even been sightings of Abigail herself walking through the restaurant. The history says she was beheaded by her husband when he returned home early from a voyage at sea and caught her with her boyfriend. Abigail's also holds a special place in my heart, as we had our rehearsal dinner here and returned for brunch after our wedding. It has never failed to disappoint. The food is consistently excellent, and the service is always top-notch. On our most recent visit, we had a party of eight and were seated upstairs, which was perfect for privacy. Once our husbands get together, things can get a bit loud, so the privacy was much appreciated. We started with mussels, calamari and oysters Rockefeller. The calamari stood out for me-olive oil, lemon, kalamata olives and peppers gave it great flavor. I ordered the blackened sea bass special with risotto. The fish was cooked perfectly and delicious, though I would've liked a bit more char. One thing to note: the dish came with shrimp, which wasn't listed- fine for me, but important for those with allergies. Other dishes included bolognese, seafood fra diavolo and steaks, all of which were thoroughly enjoyed. Drinks were excellent, with great wine selection. Our server was fantastic- attentive, very patient and good-natured, even with all the jokes and antics. Overall, it was an excellent evening and a place we always look forward to returning to. Reservations are highly recommended. Brunch is also excellent, and the outdoor patio is a great bonus in warmer weather.

The butternut squash risotto was delicious, but the shrimp had a slightly odd taste.. Not bad, just off. The chicken wrap was really good and the fries were perfectly crispy. No worries...we were trying to get out as quickly as possible as soon as the drinks came. I ordered an old fashioned and my husband got a bourbon on the rocks. Between the 5 minutes it took to get to us, his ice was half melted which meant they already likely had this poured and just snagged it for him and my old fashioned tasted like pure sugar. I couldn't taste the bourbon and I tried my husbands drink and it was so watered down the bourbon color was almost clear. They brought his glass out and the waiter noticed something and immediately took it back and they seemed to have poured it into another glass which then watered it down even more!!! I got the lobster bisque as an appetizer and WOW, I don't even know why they call it a bisque. It was obviously cooked in a seafood broth and overly salty as opposed to the cream base of an actual bisque. My husband ordered the filet mignon. This cut of beef is perfect all on its own but they brought it out drenched in a soup of a tangy tasting sauce that covered the plate. You couldn't even taste the steak. The mashed potatoes looked so undercooked just by looking at them. When I asked how they were, he compared them to an instant mix box kind. I got the bolognese pasta. Again, no seasoning whatsoever for being a bolognese which should have herbs and spices. The service was lackluster, we got a water refill once, the waiter rushed everytime he was at our table and was even rushing writing stuff down. THE WORST PART was the ambience. I was hoping to have a nice date night on a Tuesday night, instead all the tables are so crammed together that you can't even hear your own thoughts. We were having to sort of yell back and forth just to have a conversation. We couldn't get out of there fast enough! Go across the street to Flemings or Capital Grill in Hartford. A LOT more quality and peace for almost the same price. DO NOT RECOMMEND NOT EVEN FOR DRINKS!!!

It was actually too salty even though my coworker requested less salt on everything. I enjoyed dipping the fresh bread into the oil. Lastly came the entrees. I was a bit disappointed in both of them. The hanger steak was cooked medium rare like I wanted but the texture was not great. I was hoping for a more tender cut and this was a bit tough and lean. The frites were cooked well and very crispy. The duck confit was very tender but I didn't think it was amazing. Overall I don't think I will be returning to this restaurant with so many other great options around. We started our dinner with the garlic Parmesan Tuscan wings - so crispy, so flavorful - and the truffle fries - crispy outside and pillow inside, just enough truffle flavor. For the main course, I got the Valentine special - sirloin and lobster. The most I can say about it is that it was filling. The sirloin was cooked well, but the meat was just tough. The lobster was also on the small side and stuck to the shell ( a good portion of the meat was missed because I wasn't allowed to eat like a savage). For $42, I could have made a better choice. My wife got the pork chops - now that was a good pick! The glaze was sweet, but not too sweet, and she even enjoyed the squash (which she rarely eats). For dessert, I got the tiramisu, which was again okay, nothing spectacular. My wife enjoyed the valentine dessert (a red velvet cake with cream cheese and covered in chocolate). The biggest flaw I saw is their seating arrangement - we felt very claustrophobic. For parties of two, they have a huge series of benches with a tiny table and chairs on the other side. We were initially seated between two couples (one of which was the end), and they moved their table so my tiny wife can squeeze in between to sit on the bench. I'm so glad they left soon after and we asked to take their seat. I regret some of my choices, and should have tempered my expectations, mistaking this place as a fancy restaurant. Because my daughter indicated she had been into Greece recently, brought us over a slice of a fantastic three-layer cake with a chocolate ganache. If you have no other reason than to come to DaCapo, try the dessert. It's absolutely worth a trip. The portions are exuberant and we brought about half of our food home.
