You can see through this lock that they charged me $195 to not remove.

I called out tri county lock to pick and remove two basic barrel locks. The man over the phone explained that it would be $75 to come out and $50 for each half hour of labor. He told me that the tech they would send out would be a professional and be able to get the job done pretty quickly. Unfortunately, I was unable to be there when the work took place, but I trusted them to do the job completely. My girlfriend supervised the work and was unaware of the complete job that needed to be done. The locksmith came out and immediately insisted on drilling out the locks. Not ideal, but totally fine. He drills the first lock out in a matter of minutes, very impressive. However, lock number 2, which was IDENTICAL to the first lock stumped him. He spent approximately 45 minutes attempting to drill that lock out. In the end, he gave up, and tried to show my girlfriend that he couldn't get the lock off. My girlfriend then attempted to open the machine, and it came right apart. This super experienced technician spent nearly an hour trying to drill out an already compromised lock. Immediately after my girlfriend got the machine open for him, he handed her a bill for $195 which was more than what we were originally quoted. She paid the invoice, because we had to meet with someone across town. When I got home to inspect the work, I noticed that they didn't even remove the locks. They didn't clean up. Personally, I think the guy was embarrassed by what a bad job he did and wanted to get out of there because there was no reason why that job should have taken so long. You should check out the pictures of what they left me with. I attempted to reach out to them to rectify it that same day. The guy on the phone was incredibly rude but then assured me someone would come out to fix it the next day. He then confirmed again with me the next morning that someone would come out. Later in the day, I discover additional damage caused by the debris left from the job they didn't finish. I attempt to call tri county back and the guy had a tantrum like meltdown where he kept speaking over me and putting words in my mouth and trying to rush me off the phone. At one point he even made the comment of "Let my guy come out and then you can complain" and just kept repeating himself so I couldn't talk. Despite him acting like a 4 year old, he says he will personally come out to my house to inspect the work that day. I thank him for doing so. I wish this story has a happy ending, but unfortunately he ghosted me. He never called me back and never came to inspect the work like he said he would. I'm beyond disappointed with the work they did. I was overcharged, and they didn't even do the job they were hired to do. You would think for the amount I paid, they would have an ounce of professionalism... Make this right and I will change my review.

I do want to just mention to future clients that I was quoted a cost "range" of what it would be which I expected and was in fact the cost for the lock issue remediation. Great! ***** It was the additional "Trip Fee" of $55, that I was not told about in advance and it was not a good surprise. I would have remembered having a conversation that they would be driving from Santa Barbara to Oxnard for the service call and it would be an additional $55 Trip Fee. Although I was not told this ahead of time, when I questioned the extra fee, Jill said "I definitely told you, you must have been confused since the repair fee was also $55". I decided to let it go because it wasn't worth any arguments and I paid a total of $110. I just want others to be aware of this to be sure you are 100% clear and know if there will be any trip fee or not prior to hiring them.

Eric (accompanied by his adorable and well-mannered canine Assistant, Hank), paid their second visit to our home today. The first time was to discuss an extensive needs list for a good-sized property. We desired high-quality, all-new door and window hardware (handles and deadbolts) within a very particular range of types & styles throughout the house, as well as specific types of gate, shed and fence locks for pasture and side yards. It has been noted by others over the years that we have--ahem--very exacting standards. Eric was a dream to work with and didn't seem to find us at all picky! He was friendly, patient, obviously an experienced expert, with great ideas and suggestions for hardware which meshed exactly with our needs (but which we had not even known existed. Eric made careful note of our wish list, took measurements, and got back with us promptly as regards type, cost, pros and cons of various fixtures. He then got it all ordered and made an appointment for a return appointment just as soon as a delivery date by his supplier was provided. On Installation Day, to say that we were pleased is an understatement. Our new equipment is attractive, SECURE, of top-notch quality, and fits our design and color theme perfectly. Eric's pricing for locks, bolts, keys, and considerable labor was very reasonable and he took the time to get it all perfectly organized and everything just right. He even spent about 45 minutes adjusting a sliding door which was sticking/at times inoperable without charge (who does this, in this day and age?) simply because he's a conscientious person and a really nice guy. We can't recommend Smith Lock Shop and Eric Bates highly enough, and enthusiastically recommend to all. Modern superb mobile service with expertise and an old-fashioned work ethic.

The price for the labor was fair and reasonable and the install was professional and as planned. Eric also coordinated with my gate fabricator and gave him the specs for the lock so that the lock location was precise. He's a cut above any other locksmith I have had experience with in the past.
